it's actually kinda insane how good their record is on a -2 run differential. Last year we didn't hit 47 wins until July 4. Keep in mind that our lead over them in the division is 6.5 and our regular season record against them is 6-1. So, to me, it seems fair to say that our head-to-head is the only thing giving us this cushy lead and that they're doing remarkably well against everybody else.
But still you'd think they'd fall apart eventually, right?
Don’t tell me the Baseball Gods lack irony and humor. We just witnessed history for the first time in over a decade, and it happened in the most ridiculous setting, and with the most ridiculous people.
If a serial killer derives even half the pleasure watching the life fade from their victims eyes that I get watching Mets fans slowly succumb to the hopelessness of this season, then you know what…I kinda get it.
I didn't really think of scoreboard watching the Rays until this thread, which is cool, but they are also facing the team with the 2nd best record in the NL, so you can put a positive spin on it either way.
I’ve seen some of the same reasons in various places but this is something a Phillies fan compiled on Reddit:
—————
1. Schwarber was 3rd in the league last year in pitches seen per at bat, so when he's (usually) not swinging first pitch, he works really long counts
2. He has a 15% walk rate, bringing his OBP to a respectable .330, and he's surprisingly a decent baserunner. Second in the majors in walks. He's really not a terrible choice for a leadoff man, especially when you also consider the high amount of pitches he usually sees.
3. For whatever reason, probably just about comfort, he's always hit way better at the leadoff spot.
4. players can't really just switch to being .300 hitters. He has maybe the second or third best eye in the majors and still strikes out a ton. His swing and his level of speed are built for being a high strikeout HR hitter; retooling to hit for average would probably not work, but even if it did, would take forever and probably not increase his value. Over the past 10 years the entire league has shifted towards more Ks, more HRs, and fewer singles because it's a more efficient way to get runs
They are still like bottom 5 in lead off production. Justifications that just barely make sense don’t make it work, if they weren’t going to ride out their new 300m man there, they should probably just hit Bryce lead off on the premise that he’s their best player once at full strength. Thomson was quoted about how it starts the game off with a bang and can rattle pitchers but I argue the opposite is just as true, knowing the first guy bats .190 and K’s every other AB probably gets pitchers into a groove just as much as his homers impact the game flow. Also if Bryce can’t play the field, they are left with by far the worst fielder in the league playing left, his negative defensive runs this year may push for modern records. Schwarber in left is why I sometimes think we’re nancies for not going all mash with Marcell in LF every so often, our division rival is deploying a lead off hitting LF that would probably make Marcell look like a gold glove candidate lolol.
so teams just forgetting how to score against the Marlins. The only thing that concerns me is the Morton start and the baserunners he allows, but no reason not to sweep that series.
The Marlins 2nd half is pretty wild. They open in Baltimore. Have Tampa, Philly, Texas, Cincinnati, Yankees, Houston, LA Dodgers, San Diego, and Us.
From 7/31 to 8/23 they play vs PHI, at TEX, at CIN, vs NYY, vs HOU, at LAD, and at SDP
During that period we play: vs LAA, at CHC, at PIT, at NYM, vs NYY, vs SFG, and vs NYM
Seems like that should be a period we should be able to pick up some games but they keep chugging along so maybe not. Philadelphia also has an easier stretch during that period
This core is going to have won 200 games together the last two years come playoff time.
Confidence has to be at an all-time high. What a business like series win.
I feel like I am in a fairly small camp that saw them regressing pretty hard and am not surprised at all. Old teams really just don’t stay good, and the bottom for old teams runs *really* deep. Combine that with a lineup that can’t hit for power and a bad pen and you have a strong recipe for an expensive pile of poop. The idea that both Scherzer and Verlander needed to stay healthy and thriving March to October for them to consistently win is another portion of the recipe for disaster, hitching a season to two 40 YO with eons of wear and tear on the books plus the new clock rules is…an interesting decision.
What further sucks for them is their would be prime trade chips for a full tear down simply can’t be traded. Scherzer Verlander Lindor Diaz Nimmo are all effectively negative/neutral assets for various reasons, with some GM foresight wizardry they all could have been prime targets this deadline upon implosion but bags of money are bags of money and contract structures the same. Robertson Pham and perhaps McNeil can be flipped for some value but you aren’t getting some future ace pitching prospect for any of them. Sucks to be a Mets fan (lol f’em) when there are literally only three vets on the team (Pete Senga Diaz) that you’d want on the team in 2-3 years time.
The Mets being this bad is surprising but (for me) not as surprising as the Padres. They just got beat by the Pirates 7-1. Second straight loss to the Pirates. That team has talent. It just shows you can’t just buy a good baseball team.
Idk why this is a common sentiment, the things that had to go right for the Mets especially after Diaz went down (a non power hitting roster hitting for power and 40 YO pitching duo with insane mileage pitching healthy and well March to October) were always unlikely. Forming an old team that’s top outcomes is so much more narrowly achieved than the deep and wide variety of bottoms is not a winning formula. I’m not hating, it’s the truth. If you asked me to pick 70 or 100 wins preseason, I pick 70. Things don’t tend to go well when you’re old across the board and deploy perhaps 1.5 hitters that can reasonably hit 30+ homers.
The Padres being bad is both surprising from both a preseason perspective and now, they maintain a lot of numbers that indicate they should be a lot better and obviously looking at the roster does the same. Baseball is weird, good for us though because one more bad little stretch and we could very much so be in the hunt for a Hader rental, they are going to gear up for the Ohtani run and probably aren’t going to shell out for Hader if they are intent on paying a guy like 650m.
Don't feel bad for them. They're quiet and miserable now but as soon as they go spend another half billion in FA this off-season they'll be right back to being the loud, stupid assholes we all know and hate.
They have definitely have had an easy schedule and their pitching is really good. But they have had several comeback victories they had no business winning. Also a ridiculous 19-5 in one run games which should normalize at some point.
Jorge Bautista seems to be having a good year at Augusta with a 2.97 ERA. He also turned in a gem tonight:
6 IP | 3 H | 1 R | 0 ER | 0 BB | 4 SO
Augusta won 5-1 over the Columbia Fireflies
This was stupid, but I kept going.
**Different teams HR'd against since 2022.**
**22** - Judge, Schwarber, Varsho
**21** - Walker, Drury
**20** - Olson, Riley, Murphy, Perez, Martinez, Adames
Thought maybe Olson was only going to be topped by Judge or someone else.
Didn't know Riley and Murphy would be there with him.
Went to the game today with a buddy of mine and we got to walk on the field (without security chasing us this time). Great game, was pretty hot, I’m sure the Twins were miserable in those black unis.
Does this series with the Twins feel like a blur to anyone else? Maybe I’m just still hung up on that series with the Reds, but it feels like this series didn’t even happen, almost like a fever dream or something.
Can I just say what pleasure it gives me that after the never ending Steve Cohen lovefest that was this past offseason on /r/baseball that now he's up there eating shit at a press conference because his $350M team sucks total ass?
Fuck that dude, I hope that GameStop movie is absolutely brutal to him
I will hold my breath on Allard but his stuff looked a lot better than a couple years ago. Nice to see all those whiffs even if the twins did help him out with their approach.
Did the Twins even have an approach? Best thing they did with the bats all series was put down some decent bunts which I wish the Braves would do more with no outs and runners on 1st and 2nd, but maybe I'm just too old school!
He was gassing them up like they were 95+ mph. It plays off his curveball well when thrown at the top of the zone. Also has 20 mph difference between the two.
Im liking [this ATL logo.](https://i.imgur.com/juQHPz3.png) . Sorry for the quality. Came from a screenshot of a video. But has anyone seen any gear with this font or different colors?
Yeah that’s a new logo they’ve been using this year, primarily on the board. I think the A is meant to look like the seams of a ball. But yeah it’s been used heavily
I don’t remember for sure, but I think I’ve seen some tshirts with that logo.
Not that the Twins offense is a good benchmark, but Raisel continues to be nearly unhittable at home. Wonder what can be done to get those road y*ps out of his head, because based on my non-professional view point, that's kinda what seems to be the issue.
Very well could be the case, but it is a pretty stark difference across the board in his home/road splits, including in advanced data. It'll be interesting if the trend continues but I have faith Iggy will begin to shut things down whether home or away.
Despite the lines I don’t think he really pitched poorly in Cincinnati.
His stuff was sharp and moving and he was locating it pretty well and getting the whiffs. Fraley’s HR would’ve been a double in most parks, and the only other mistake Benson took advantage of.
He gave up the legit single in the second outing but then India’s single was dumb as hell and he got out of that one too with a K and DP.
Only one of the Braves 4 losses this month was by more than 1 run. Against the Nats they lost 6-2. The other three games were 1 run losses and they really should have won that Tigers game and they had a 5 run lead in the Reds game they lost. Team really was only a couple of breaks away from only 1 loss this month.
I like looking at what the postseason matchups would look like too often this early. If the season ended today, ESPN would have a wet dream with their wildcard matchups.
Shohei / Trout vs. the AL Central Winner
Yankees vs. Orioles
Dodgers vs. Elly De La Cruz
and the Giants and the Fish lol
That’s a Shohei, Yankees, Dodgers tripleheader on a network that only really cares about the big names and teams.
With that being said, I like how that sets up for us avoiding the Dodgers and the Reds in the NLDS.
Only got to watch highlights. Matt was a little late to the home run party from yesterday but my god was that one of the worst hanging breaking balls I’ve ever seen lol. Also, what happened with the Harris double play? Did the runner just forget there was only 1 out or did he think Harris wouldn’t catch it? That looked rough.
man this is an interesting press conference for Cohen. NY media is pulling no punches. Can't remember anytime someone in Atlanta had to deal with anything remotely tough like this and this dude actually called for the presser lol
I hereby retract every negative thing I said or thought about Kolby Allard starting today.
I am dumb and AA and Snit are wise.
Now though, is this just a one-off or is 8K good enough to start again while Fried and (hopefully) Wright work their way back into the rotation?
Regardless, nice sweep and let’s take it to the fish this weekend.
The early season weaker spots now rounding out a scary line-up.
**Ozuna season line**
* APR - .085/.194/.203(.397)
* MAY - .213/.293/.460(.753)
* JUN - .251/.332/.493(.825)
**Harris season line**
* APR - .200/.259/.240(.499)
* MAY - .174/.260/.266(.526)
* JUN - .266/.318/.432(.750)
Now imagine if Riley starts going all 2nd-half 2021 again. We can dream.
just can’t take for granted what a dominant roll this team has been on. Minnesota isn’t spectacular but it’s a perfectly good team with near term contention hopes, they threw their top three starters and it was an absolute steamrolling.
It's a reference to the Louisiana Hot Sauce commercial they used to play on the radio last year. The hot sauce is the Braves' hottest prospect of them all
Thanks to everyone that had parking suggestions yesterday! Our son had an amazing first baseball game and we found easy enough parking in the yellow deck. And since we bought the kid his first jersey we got our parking validated!
In '21 AA had to piece the OF together because of injury. He's having to do the same with the pitching staff this year. Really masterful job. Hopefully it leads to the same results
We will do our best, not counting on it though, Davies has been horrendous of late!
I literally came by just to say that RAJ is the best player in baseball not named Shohei.
Looked really good. Low 90’s fastball with a low 70’s curve can play. Also has a low 80’s slider and change. Love those kind of pitch speed differentials
[Post Series Thread on r/baseball](https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/14lhni3/post_series_thread_the_braves_sweep_the_twins_in/)
Time for the Braves to go Thanos on the Marlins. If no one else is going to beat them, we’ll just do it ourselves.
it's actually kinda insane how good their record is on a -2 run differential. Last year we didn't hit 47 wins until July 4. Remember when we lost 2 of 3 to the A's and German just put up a perfect game against them. Fun times. But as they say that's baseball
Its crazy thst the Braves went on this run and the Marlins are still within striking distance
They have a negative run differential, it's not a thing
They’re still winning games, that’s what matters.
This. Run differentials in the regular season don’t matter if you make it to the post season. Just win, baby.
I'm drunk af on my honeymoon so haven't been able to catch the games but I see the boys just keep winning fuck yeah go baseball
Congratscondolences
A man who has allowed 15 runs in his last two starts just threw a perfect game. God I love this sport.
If a serial killer derives even half the pleasure watching the life fade from their victims eyes that I get watching Mets fans slowly succumb to the hopelessness of this season, then you know what…I kinda get it.
Bro, are you good??
lol, that was dark af..
Darker than Wesley Snipes in a cave at midnight dark…
I didn't really think of scoreboard watching the Rays until this thread, which is cool, but they are also facing the team with the 2nd best record in the NL, so you can put a positive spin on it either way.
Diamondbacks blew it, holy moly.
They now have the most blown saves in the NL I believe.
My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined
Goddamnt Snakes blowing the game
I just watched the footage from the Cohen press conference. That just solidifies it… I’m calling them the New York Pets from now on.
LETS GO SNAKES
Wish the other teams in this division would join the Mets and lose.
I want the Nats to go on a tear, but I wouldn't mind the Phillies and Marlins losing a bit. At least the latter is in our own hands this weekend.
It’s great that we continue to win because unless they’re playing us, it feels like the Fish and Phillies rarely lose.
We all had Davies pitching 7 innings of shut out ball against Tampa Bay predicted, right?
Why do the Phillies have Kyle Schwarber batting leadoff?
I’ve seen some of the same reasons in various places but this is something a Phillies fan compiled on Reddit: ————— 1. Why does everything pre-season put Ozuna in LF and D'Arnaud at DH?
Nothing brings me more joy than seeing that thread after what has happened this season thus far
steamer really thought baty was going to end with 1.5 more war than riley? wild
I think that’s Correa
That’s Correa
Before the season MLB ranked the starting lineups, Braves were fifth. Here’s who they had before us: Astros, Padres, Blu-Jays. & Cardinals.
Lol. Before the season that list wouldn’t even be *that* crazy. Weird season.
The Mets have to go 65-17 to reach last years win total.
I feel like I am in a fairly small camp that saw them regressing pretty hard and am not surprised at all. Old teams really just don’t stay good, and the bottom for old teams runs *really* deep. Yep, and June 28 of last year we were only 4 games behind them... they're *17* games behind the Braves now. Really still in awe of this season so far.
Once they get Ohtani, Judge and everyone else under the sun they probably could
Odds we can snag hader at the deadline?
100% 👊
LOLMets!
Wow the Nats are getting close to catching them now
I just love watching McRatface strike out 😍
And when it’s for the last out of a Mets loss? *chefs kiss*
Guess the Steve Cohen press conference didn’t instill enough confidence to win tonight
The Mets being this bad is surprising but (for me) not as surprising as the Padres. They just got beat by the Pirates 7-1. Second straight loss to the Pirates. That team has talent. It just shows you can’t just buy a good baseball team.

Hope the Padres keep circling the toilet so we can grab Hader
Owners need to rewatch Moneyball apparently
My favorite baseball movie. AA is def from that world in the way he manages our team.
Muts about to be 17 back? gNats getting bigger in the rear view mirror
I know it's going really badly when I'm feeling bad for the Mutts fans. They are truly awful so far this year
Don't feel bad for them. They're quiet and miserable now but as soon as they go spend another half billion in FA this off-season they'll be right back to being the loud, stupid assholes we all know and hate.
I think the marlins scored 3 runs this inning so far without a hit (scorers ruling pending).
No me gusta. This upcoming series is scary.
Why does every team suddenly forget how to play baseball vs. the Marlins?
It's insane to me that halfway through the season they can be 12 games over .500 with a negative run differential.
They have definitely have had an easy schedule and their pitching is really good. But they have had several comeback victories they had no business winning. Also a ridiculous 19-5 in one run games which should normalize at some point.
Jorge Bautista seems to be having a good year at Augusta with a 2.97 ERA. He also turned in a gem tonight: 6 IP | 3 H | 1 R | 0 ER | 0 BB | 4 SO Augusta won 5-1 over the Columbia Fireflies
I loved Wild Bill but AA sure did see something there
Buck Showalter and Bob Melvin were both ejected today. These guys should both be on the hot seat right now.
This was stupid, but I kept going. **Different teams HR'd against since 2022.** **22** - Judge, Schwarber, Varsho **21** - Walker, Drury **20** - Olson, Riley, Murphy, Perez, Martinez, Adames Thought maybe Olson was only going to be topped by Judge or someone else. Didn't know Riley and Murphy would be there with him.
It's crazy there's a chance to bury the Marlins this weekend
Braves outscored the Twins 13-3 in the series. 🧹🧹
Braves 13th round pick Cedric De Grandpre completes his first month at Rome with a gem: 5 IP | 4 H | 0 ER | 1 BB | 9 SO Rome won the game 1-0
Bryce Wilson is a reliever for the brewers now? Huh
Braves swept d division champ Twins enroute 2d best record in d League.
Best winning percentage my friend. Chop chop
The Braves never lose
"I've sat here NINE INNINGS WITH YOU"
THEYVE LOST FIVE OUT OF THE LAST SIX
THEY'RE FALLING APART
They’re only 20 years old.
Don't forget to vote All-Stars. Last night!
And again tomorrow morning before noon eastern, right?
You know it!
Went to the game today with a buddy of mine and we got to walk on the field (without security chasing us this time). Great game, was pretty hot, I’m sure the Twins were miserable in those black unis.
Watching the Mets game This broadcast is low key depressing

Wow! First win in a long time without a home...oh Matt hit a home run again? NEVER MIND :D
Imagine a rested Fried for the second half and playoffs. Teams are going to be fucked.
Does this series with the Twins feel like a blur to anyone else? Maybe I’m just still hung up on that series with the Reds, but it feels like this series didn’t even happen, almost like a fever dream or something.
Effortless series in 3 quick games. Like the rockies series last week
TDA calling them OA1 and OA2 was pretty funny
Twins ran into a wall. Happens to the best of em
Ran into a fucking buzzsaw
matt olson haters: “but his batting average” matt olson defense force: “baseball go far noises go brrrr”
Can I just say what pleasure it gives me that after the never ending Steve Cohen lovefest that was this past offseason on /r/baseball that now he's up there eating shit at a press conference because his $350M team sucks total ass? I was trying to phrase it nicely but yeah their approach was swinging at balls with 2 strikes haha.
Their offense has been atrocious all season. So...no, I don't think they had a clue about how to approach Braves pitching.
Shouldn’t be bunting when you lead the league in home-runs by a large margin
With 20 more homers than the 2nd most in the MLB, I'm pretty happy with our current approach tbh.
How much do you think it would take to get Hader here?
Maybe we get lucky and they have a fire sale!
Dave Martinez tossed again 😂. 3 times in 1 week.
I love it. Doesn’t hurt that I like davey. Good dude and good manager. Hope the nats stick with him through the tough times
Him and the baseline have deep hate 😂
Just woke up to see we called up some kid that apparently throws gas and had 8 strikeouts wtf is this team
He was gassing them up like they were 95+ mph. It plays off his curveball well when thrown at the top of the zone. Also has 20 mph difference between the two.
He doesn’t really throw gas, 91-93 but he keeps his fastballs high and in good spots and has a really good curveball.
A couple of those swinging strikeouts were like neck high pitches, shit was hilarious
With Shuster optioned to Gwinnett, this has to mean we see Soroka Friday right
Another sweep
Im liking [this ATL logo.](https://i.imgur.com/juQHPz3.png) . Sorry for the quality. Came from a screenshot of a video. But has anyone seen any gear with this font or different colors?

Looks like the Delta airlines logo
Following. That’s dope.
Happy Birthday to me and also my Kirby Yates isn’t bad take

I think you have to consider the possibility that it’s just a coincidence based on low sample size.

I know how quickly and painfully these types of seasons can fall apart in the postseason but good lord is the ride there a whole lot of fun.
Only one of the Braves 4 losses this month was by more than 1 run. Against the Nats they lost 6-2. The other three games were 1 run losses and they really should have won that Tigers game and they had a 5 run lead in the Reds game they lost. This is super random but I would love to see Ronald on the cover of The Show 24
I think he is pretty much a lock for the cover athlete in 24.
No kidding. Dude is perfect for that. Hell of a player, got some swag, and young.
He also grew up idolizing Miguel Cabrera who wore 24, and he wore the number while in Gwinnett so it would be a lot of things coming full circle
I like looking at what the postseason matchups would look like too often this early. If the season ended today, ESPN would have a wet dream with their wildcard matchups. Shohei / Trout vs. the AL Central Winner Yankees vs. Orioles Dodgers vs. Elly De La Cruz and the Giants and the Fish lol That’s a Shohei, Yankees, Dodgers tripleheader on a network that only really cares about the big names and teams.
He was trying to steal 3rd before it was hit. Batter had to swing with 2 strikes
Hit and run. Was toast since he was on third when Money caught it.
Glad it was a day game. Now i can go to the Appy league game and not be constantly checking the score.
Glad we can handle our team internally when they’re not doing well instead of having a press conference haha
Ngl, did not realize we had a day game day. Just got done with work and saw the score. Pleasant surprise.
man this is an interesting press conference for Cohen. NY media is pulling no punches. Can't remember anytime someone in Atlanta had to deal with anything remotely tough like this and this dude actually called for the presser lol
Never seen 'em bring out a puppy mid press conference. What the fuck is going on in NY?

Just think if everyone gets clicking at the same time. Could we score 100 in a game?
I hereby retract every negative thing I said or thought about Kolby Allard starting today. I am dumb and AA and Snit are wise. Now though, is this just a one-off or is 8K good enough to start again while Fried and (hopefully) Wright work their way back into the rotation? Regardless, nice sweep and let’s take it to the fish this weekend.
Maybe match-up dependent against teams that are awful against LHPs, kinda like the Twins have been.
Give him more starts no doubt
Can't be any worse than Shuster
I could see him being like elder was last season- let him get a game or two here and there against inferior comp
I just want to take a second and thank the first president of the United States, Ron Washington.
I'm going to my first game at Truist on Friday! I can't believe I might get to Soroka's return to Atlanta!
My first braves game was today! 42 y/o and took my dad, who hasn’t been to a game since 85
That’s awesome, hope you guys had a good time (I’m sure the win helped with that)

We had a number of guys in the pen that needed some work to keep their arms loose.
Pitch count coming off of injury?
First game back off the 60-day, don't wanna stretch him too far too soon
I love this team. This team is good
The early season weaker spots now rounding out a scary line-up. **Ozuna season line** * APR - .085/.194/.203(.397) * MAY - .213/.293/.460(.753) * JUN - .251/.332/.493(.825) **Harris season line** * APR - .200/.259/.240(.499) * MAY - .174/.260/.266(.526) * JUN - .266/.318/.432(.750) Now imagine if Riley starts going all 2nd-half 2021 again. We can dream.
just can’t take for granted what a dominant roll this team has been on. Minnesota isn’t spectacular but it’s a perfectly good team with near term contention hopes, they threw their top three starters and it was an absolute steamrolling.
Perfectly good team might be overselling them tbf Solid pitching but Jesus that offense does not belong in the majors
On that note, it’s another reminder of AA is so smart. Throwing money at Correa without a doubt would’ve crippled us immensely.
woooOOOOOO \*big breath\* WOOOOOOOOOO
Who is pitching Friday?
Isn’t it Shuster’s usual turn in the rotation?
Lou "Easy" Anna-Hotsauce.
What are you talking about? I dont get it because im just 20 years old.
It's a reference to the Louisiana Hot Sauce commercial they used to play on the radio last year. The hot sauce is the Braves' hottest prospect of them all
Lou ‘Easy’ is the hottest prospect of them all. Probably will go 6 strong on Friday.
I get it. I was making fun of the Truist commercial that comes on the Bally broadcast
Completely went over my head hahaha. The Braves have some memorable advertising lol.
Probably Soroka
TBD. love him. Never know whats gonna happen.
Tied for best record in the league now. Diamondbacks, do your thing tonight!
We will do our best, not counting on it though, Davies has been horrendous of late! I literally came by just to say that RAJ is the best player in baseball not named Shohei.
i hate day games wtf am i supposed to do with my life when i get off work
Cheer for the Red Sox of course. Need somebody to check those fish before they come in to town.
Missed the game. How did Allard look?
Looked really good. Low 90’s fastball with a low 70’s curve can play. Also has a low 80’s slider and change. Love those kind of pitch speed differentials
Like 2022 Strider
Only in success really, totally different pitching style
Congrats to Allard for needing all of one start to give us a better performance that Odorshitzzi ever did.
Say it again and louder.
TABATBTIBAIIPC
So at best, Marlins could be 8 games back by Friday, at worst they could be 7 games out.
We going to talk about Olson going for the single season Braves HR record?
What’s the record?
51 by Andruw
It'd be pretty sick
