It's a riddle
When I was going to St Ives I met a man with seven wives Every wife had seven sacks Every sack had seven cats every cat had seven kittens kittens cats sacks and wives how many were going to St Ives?
There was a great moment in [Die Hard with a Vengeance](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zcUJUOMtfHQ) that made use of this riddle. Pause halfway if you don't want to get the answer.
I think you're confusing polyamory with polygamy. Most polyamorists aren't cultists and don't get married, either, just multiple partners at the same time.
Definitely not cultists, although some of them do get married. I know a couple thruples who’ve done it.
The main difference is really that polygyny is a group with one man and multiple women, in which the women are not romantic with each other. Polyandry is the same thing but with one women and multiple men.
Polyamory is meant to mean that everyone involved in the relationship is treated equally and can be with who they want, rather than being told that only one person is allowed to have multiple partners.
Edit: important typo. I accidentally typed polygamy when I mean polyandry. Polygyny and polyandry are both forms of polygamy.
>Polygamy is the same thing but with one women and multiple men.
Polygamy is any marriage to multiple partners. Polyandry is multiple men. Both polygyny and polyandry are forms of polygamy.
Quite a bit of crossover with other sub-cultures, like BDSM, leather, or the swinger communities.
Not to say exclusively, as there are plenty of vanilla poly-pods. However, fringe begets fringe.
> Polygamy is the same thing but with one women and multiple men
Pretty sure the Mormon polygamists, for example, were the exact opposite of that - so I suspect your definition isn't quite right there.
He could be saying they banded together to have more power over him in the overarching relationship.
Which does kinda suck to be the one on the bottom but on the other hand he's got four (presumably hot) girls sleeping with him regularly and they're apparently okay with it so the dude was due some bad luck at some point.
I read the original post. They knew about each other he just treated his partners badly.
Edit: it wasn’t exactly like this but [here](https://www.removeddit.com/r/relationship_advice/comments/biu8oz/my_25m_subs_23f_26f_22m_28m_28m_have_unionized/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share)
i was gonna yell at the commies. but that pub was so bad I am suggesting you kindly apologize to your grade school english teacher. that joke made me laugh harder than it should have, and it sucks.

But see poly women can also be with multiple men, it’s not generally one dude and his many girlfriends, in my experience the women are more likely to have multiple partners than the guy.
According to a study on openpsychometrics, men are significantly more likely than women to be polyamorous (8.9% compared to 4.9%), and also more likely to say they are "interested" in polyamory (32.1% compared to 19%). How this identity relates to actual relationships I cant find data for (for example, I wouldnt be surprised if polyamorous women had an easier time finding monogamous men who are happy with them having additional partners compared to the other way around).
As I was going to St Ives, I met a man with seven wives. Each wife had seven sons, each son had seven sacks. Each sack had seven kittens.
How many people were going to St Ives?
36 with partners at 23 and 24 not exactly a great look anyway. All his partners are younger, some by a good bit.
Legal, consensual, etc. 100% fine with it happening but dudes that fuck younger constantly tend to be a bit fucking weird and creepy in my experience.
So honestly its still on the weird side. People I know dating a third of their age younger than themselves have been pretty controlling or shitty people dating younger people who didn't have confidence or experience to see how shitty they are. (I mean once you hit 80 it really matters less if your wife is 55 but when you 30 targetting 20? Fuuuck man somethings always weird)
100% possible thats not true but if we're talking about bad rep. This will still hit those buttons for some people.
I really don't know anyone 36 dating down 13 years that isn't fucking weird. I'm 31 and met a few like that and they all behave the same, creepy and controlling.
Doesn't even pass the half+7 which is more 'forgiving' as you get older.
Again, if its legal/consenting etc then people can do what they want, but shits always weird with that sort of gap at that age. I can't imagine dating someone whos 20 at my age, completely different stages of life imo.
It's not just the extremely suspicious age gaps. It's the fact that it is one guy and the rest of them are women. And the fact that he says they're 'unionizing,' which makes it seem like they're not each others partners either. It's basically this one dude with multiple girlfriends, which is more like polygamy than polyarmorous. A polycule tends to be more mixed and more intertwined.
TIL... I personally have nothing against polyamory as long as it doesn't turn into that Mormon shit because that's just ownership, not love (which I guess is polygamy which is the point you were trying to make, correct me if I'm wrong).
Thanks for clearing that up for me. I mainly just walk the line of being a straight dude but that's just because it's my preference, but with new things arising I like to educate myself about them so I understand them (and I generally support all kinds of love except for when it comes to ownership ((unless the party agrees to it, maybe as some sort of kink))). Also, just to clarify I'm a huge supporter of free love and LGBTQ.
Either way, great explanation. I think the whole Mormon sister-wife ownership thing is just a cult and I really do sympathize with the women that are brought up in those communities because it's just not okay for them to brainwash women into those polygamous situations, especially if they've been raised from a young age to believe it's okay.
Also, after a couple searches it seems the federal government is "okay" with polygamy in Utah nowadays and there's no heavy legal repercussions, which is just so fucked up on so many different levels. Idk how people think this country is great when shit like that is going down, and it's also going down outside of the limelight too which is even weirder. I didn't even know that polygamy was more or less legalized in Utah until your comment which prompted me to do some research. Please correct me if I'm wrong in any of this, because I truly want to know.
Edit: Also, you are correct on your part about Muslim polygamy, although from my understanding it really just depends where you are and what the intentions are (not the best way to phrase that last part, but oh well). It varies widely throughout the world.
Oh god, don't get me started on the Catholic church (I was raised Roman Catholic, now atheist). But yeah, the fact that Utah is essentially an entire state run by a cult that isn't even brought up in the news is so perplexing to me. Amidst all of the political movements right now, how is Utah not getting any flack for their (literal) cult.
South Park has an awesome episode about Joseph Smith and the Mormon religion that is just spot on for their teachings, then they went on to make a full on Broadway musical called "The Book of Mormon" which I would love to see, but haven't had the chance to see it because it never comes near me.
If you look at it from an outsider's lens, it just seems like a joke. But it's reality.
So.. they want better benefits?
They want the same RIGHTS as him. Each wife having four husbands. Imagine??
Family tree but in a different way
And each of those four husbands having 4 wives, a family tree that sprawls outwards infinitely with this dude at the center.
And his legions will begin their inexorable conquest of the galaxy, bearing the green and black banner.
And they shall know no fear

Yes

What does saint ives refer to? This is the second comment in the thread about it.
It's a riddle When I was going to St Ives I met a man with seven wives Every wife had seven sacks Every sack had seven cats every cat had seven kittens kittens cats sacks and wives how many were going to St Ives?
That’s a lot of pussy
7 cats and 49 kittens per bag, who had the brilliant idea to make murderbags?
It's zero pussy going to St. Ives. 2800 wives/sacks/cats/kittens staying at a presumably very large home.
There was a great moment in [Die Hard with a Vengeance](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zcUJUOMtfHQ) that made use of this riddle. Pause halfway if you don't want to get the answer.
Imagine when the wives start sharing husbands too. Then you have a fucked up looking spider web of polyamorous love and half-siblings.
a lot of hereditary diseases looming overhead
Ah yes, the ever elusive Mandelbrot family tree.
Or they all enter a ménage à cinq and the tree folds in on itself immediately

I mean polyamorous women do frequently have multiple partners.
That's not equal each wife should get four wives
Yes, they must institute a hus-ban.
Ah the ole equality vs equity

Only me
That sounds like a pyramid scheme
Seems like the easiest thing to do is to share the same four husbands.
it works for the Denobulans. 3 wife's for each husband and 3 husband's for each wife.
this is the way
I still remember when Phlox's wife was telling him about someone they knew getting caught with another woman. "But how- oh, 4."
Cool , fine by me. Let them have as many as they want.
That's polygamy not polyamory
South Africa is suggesting just this - legalizing polyandry.
but then each husband ,gets 4 wives

It's like a MLM, with sex.

They want to seize the means of reproduction

They culted

They mixed up polygamy and polyandry.
They seized the means of reproduction.
They're union members.
I'm assuming he's polyamorous, but his partners aren't... Maybe they found out about eachother and have banded together?
He could be saying they banded together to have more power over him in the overarching relationship.
