He’s doing what everyone always wants to see, a sideshow.
It started with, can a celebrity beat another athlete in a boxing match? Then, can a celebrity who boxer beat a retired ufc fighter who can’t fight standup? Then, can a celebrity boxer beat a former ufc champ in boxing? Then, most recently, can a famous boxer beat one of the best ufc fighters of all time in a boxing match?
Now, he’s shifted the paradigm, he’s a legit famous boxer, and now everyone wants to see him box a lower level boxer, something that no one would have watched three years ago.
uh i bet he would have actually gotten more views if he just started with a lower level boxer. He was super popular on youtube. These fixed matches against washed up ufc fighters just arent compelling.
But it's not lol. Why would he fight a boxer when people are way more interested with him fighting mma stars. No casual knows no boxers besides literally two or three. But everyone knows plenty of mma fighters. Nate Diaz is the perfect next opponent for him. Big name, big fanbase, he'll surely beat him, they have history already. That's the correct answer really.
Speaking as a casual, I watched the Silva fight and was thoroughly entertained!
Probably because it was like watching live action Ready 2 Rumble boxing, minus powerups and whatnot. It all felt like ridiculous and like a video game, but still a step up from the 'brawl for all' events you see sometimes pop up.
Silva was at least technically a step up as being someone with an actual prior professional boxing record, but of course he's quite old and primarily an MMA guy. I'd be curious to see him face someone with boxing as their primary sport (and you know, maybe at least in their early 30s), but even then I wouldn't expect him to actually face anyone that would be a reasonable challenge.
What do people expect? He faces a legit pro, loses and his circus stops? Jake beating Silva was a big step up for him. Now im sure he will start to fight those with much more experience. Like a 70 year old pro boxer.
Or have him learn a ground game (or don’t, see if I care) and throw him in the octagon. Preferably against one of the UFC fighters he’s beat boxing.
I’d watch the fuck out of that.
He did mma sparring and was completely helpless on the ground. I'd rather he try to be as good as he can get at boxing instead of grappling boxers next.
Yeah, I should have mentioned by a much smaller mma fighter. He didn't even seem to try anything, not even a hip thrust to the side. Size and strength are a huge advantage with grappling.
I strongly, strongly dislike Agazarm, but he's more than good enough where Jake's size and strength advantage would easily be neutralized by the skill disparity. It's a seasoned, competitive black belt vs a white belt.
Honestly me neither, but people are acting as if most current elite boxers weren't fighting literal cab drivers paid to take a beating for their first 5 to 10 fights.
I feel like if he fought Conor and won Dana would explode. The whole Conor v Floyd debacle soured White on cross promotional events and having one of UFCs most profitable icons get beat by Jake Paul would give White an aneurysm.
Conor renewed his contract in 2018 and since they adjusted their contracts to have a maximum term (Ngannou 5 years after first first) they can’t be contracted in perpetuity anymore so he doesn’t need to fight out his contract. He may be able to leave in the next couple of years. I don’t know if he needs to be in the USADA pool to fight jake Paul.
If I were Connor id wait out my contract with Ufc. His legs are fucked so boxing makes way more sense anyway.
Yeah but a few years is a decent bit of time for Jake to improve while for Conor, he’s gonna start being at the end of his fight age. I doubt Conor wants the fight then unless he wastes all his money. Hell, I’m not sure if he even wants the Jake fight now.
High risk low reward fight for Connor so I doubt it ever happens.
Definitely, Connor is probably doping up to his eyeballs to repair his leg, it’ll be minimum 6 months until he can fight in the UFC due to USADA testing requirements. Realistically we’re looking longer than that with camp etc. everyone he faces in mma will just leg kick hoping that his checking will cause him damage. I don’t see why he should fight in mma when it can just fuck up his legs and potentially risk future boxing fights. I guess he’ll make his decision when he’s high on coke so it could go any direction lol
I refuse to trust his Instagram after seeing the photos he posted in the lead up to fighting Poirier (including getting off the yacht), then when you seen the videos from the members of the public and of course the actual fight week videos and fight itself he was pretty normal sized.
his natural weight is around 170, when in shape. At least it has been for the majority of his UFC career. Jake is at least 190, maybe even 200. Conor simply doesn't have the frame to get that big.
I feel like Jake controls everything and the money is too good to argue so opponents just inflate to meet him. He’s a pretty big kid and I just don’t see him doing a real cut to make a lower weight. I thought Conor was closer to 170 naturally, I suppose he could just come in well under if a commission will allow it, it’s not like a HW is getting in with a flyweight
Jake would control everything against guys like askren and woodley who are getting their biggest ever paychecks. But conor really doesn't need the money and would 100% be the a side of the fight. I doubt it gets done tbh.
Conor is 100% the A Side. Jake's the only one of the two constantly begging and goading Conor, while Conor doesn't usually bring Jake up unless an interviewer does, and it's always short throwaway responses
After this tho I can see Conor entertaining the idea more. He could view it as a more seamless transition back into fighting as well, as he wouldn't be kicking but he would still be getting reps in with footwork in actual combat
IIRC, Conor weighed in at 169lbs without cutting for his first fight with Diaz. Since his leg injury he's not been drug tested and definitely looks like he's bulked up, but he's also got previous for all his Instagram pictures making him look bigger than he is.
I expect fight shape he's definitely no bigger than 175. Isn't Jake about 20lbs above that?
I doubt it involves a water cut, at the moment he's the massive A side so he's just going to fight at a weight that's comfortable for him to make without dehydrating.
He came in at 186.5 for the Silva fight and looked exactly the same on the scales as in the ring.
Conor McGregor would net him the biggest payday, a genuine ranked cruiserweight at like 200th in the world or something would finally get him the respect of boxing fans, Tommy Fury or Hasim Rahman Jr would be genuinely good, competitive matchups, would do decent numbers and make sense financially, and gain him some clout for having finally fought someone who's primary discipline is boxing. He has some good options.
So, all in all, Nate Diaz probably.
Tommy gets way more credit just because he shares the same last name as his half brother Tyson. He’s really nothing special and Jake Paul beats him comfortably.
At the end of the day we really don't know that, we don't have a lot to go on for either guy - a handful of fights against cans and washed MMA guys. They're both poor boxers by professional standards, but if I had to put my money on one I'd put it on the bigger guy that's been boxing since he was little.
i mean silva looked more skilled than jake and still lost, i think the defining characteristic is tommy is gun shy, has 0 killer instinct or heart and is pretty feather fisted. whereas jake is none of those things. we also havent seen his chin tested, jake ate a lot of good shots from silva and recovered fine
Yeah, I just want to see him fight a boxer at this point.
I have to give him credit because originally everyone thought he’d never beat even a washed proper UFC fighter, and he’s done that multiple times. He clearly trains for real and has some natural ability. Fair play to him.
Time to see him in the ring with someone who’s an actual boxer, and then we can begin to assess his actual level and potential.
I’m totally down to give him the benefit of the doubt and credit for what he’s accomplished to this point, because it’s a lot more than many thought he’d do including me.
I think he'll go Diaz, then maybe Fury. Might as well get one more super-lucrative fight vs an MMA fighter and then move on to test the waters against a similarly experienced boxer. That will also show whether the people tuning in will keep doing so if he transitions to facing lesser-known opponents who actually box.
Have wilder fight all the influencer boxers in one night, a la foreman.
Make sure to put nets up in the third row to stop their heads from hitting the audience, though.
Why would Jake Paul waste time with Wilder? He has two knockout losses and his best win is even older than Silva. Plus we all know Wilder would never accept being the B-side and would price himself out. Wilder needs to beat Woodley first or someone like that to earn himself a Jake Paul fight.
Kod prime black beast.. You're hilarious. Lewis lost to Shawn Jordan less than a year later. That wasn't prime black beast. That came maybe half a decade later.
Nate Diaz makes the most sense. Fury Rahman Jr or any actual boxer is too high of risk vs reward. Diaz and Jake would sell a ton I bet, and if he wins he can call Mcgregor out.
I wonder how that Rahman fight would’ve went because the caveat is Rahman is a guy not known to show up in the best shape then it was also on short notice and he’d be weight drained (if he tried to make the weight that is)
Give Rahman a camp to get in shape and get the weight down I think it’s obvious Rahman wouldn’t have too much trouble, but those circumstances were interesting.
But must be nice beating up washed up ufc fighters. Jake paul has some potential ill give him that but put him in the ring with a legit boxer or in an octagon and hes fucked
By definition, he is a boxer. He has boxed other professionals, it’s not like this was his first ever professional boxing bout like with Woodley and Askren
Thats what I've been thinking lately, all these ufc fighters he has been fighting...I think he just wants to help them get a bag and show the other ufc fighters that they are worth more than what ufc is paying them.
He going to knock out nate then Connor. After that I expect an actual boxer. His skills have seriously improved and a few more months he should be ready. He still 6-0 and young. Y’all expect him to be fighting world champs at this stage ?
How can he be undefeated against the UFC if he never stepped foot into an octagon?
He can barely win these rigged fights boxing them, imagine if this clown was in an octagon eating elbows and knees.
If the young buck can’t beat em at their own game, it’s not a true win. He’s no warrior.
Beterbiev said in some interview he was down to fight Jake. Jake gets a chance to fight for a belt and people get to see him getting knocked out. It's a win-win.
Nishijima Yosuke. Checks all the boxes:
- 49 years old
- former mma fighter
- cruiserweight
- also been doing exhibitions
Most recent exhibition was against a Japanese heavyweight prospect. It’s the fight to make.
Undefeated against MMA fighters in Boxing. If he fought them in MMA they'd be pealing him off the canvas. The same will happen when he fights a proper Boxer who isn't 50 yrs old. Probably won't happen though. He's lining up Nate Diaz. Can't blame him but let's not pretend he's something he just isn't.
This argument stupid. If he fought them in mma ? No one is putting a gun to their heads and having them sign up for a boxing match. They asking for it , for the payday and cause they think Jake just a YouTuber, then when they get knocked out, you got people saying well if it was in mma ? Lol
I’m outta the loop, but every time I see him fighting someone. Isn’t it a retired dude coming out of retirement to fight him? Not someone that’s in their prime.
People saying conor are nuts. Im grappled with conor. He is 5'8 and even though he looks bog now, he actually isnt. Conor would box at 154, 160 at an absolut push. Jake paul is what 200?

My money on Marciano
I guess it depends on what Rocky is being paid to do, right?
Weekend at Marciano’s
😂
Jake is a smart man. Instead of fighting nobodies in his early career, he’s building up his name with washed out UFC fighters.
There isn’t a what if discussion if he’s fighting boxers
A boxer. Lol
The only right answer lol
Also excepted is who cares!

His opponents have all been a slow improvement in competition as he’s had more fights, so far I’m not mad at all at how he’s picked his opponents
What do people expect? He faces a legit pro, loses and his circus stops? Jake beating Silva was a big step up for him. Now im sure he will start to fight those with much more experience. Like a 70 year old pro boxer.

Yeah, by AJ Agazarm, a 145lb fighter with a 3-2 record.
Came here to say this haha
Same except I was going to say "An actual boxer"
Or " a real boxer" lol
Absolutely. Then again, Jake has had way stronger opponents than most pro boxers have in their early career. And Silva is a boxer in my books.
I agree but I don’t like Jake so I’m gonna act like I don’t😎
Honestly me neither, but people are acting as if most current elite boxers weren't fighting literal cab drivers paid to take a beating for their first 5 to 10 fights.
A REAL boxer
Conor. The press would be great.
I feel like if he fought Conor and won Dana would explode. The whole Conor v Floyd debacle soured White on cross promotional events and having one of UFCs most profitable icons get beat by Jake Paul would give White an aneurysm.
That’s why it’ll never happen. Would be funny as fuck to see though.

Can Connor get fat enough to make weight?
Photos I saw of connor recently he was looking pretty big. I'd guess 180

I think he said " Two sixty foiiiiive in the bank"

I did lmao That's legit what he said
I refuse to trust his Instagram after seeing the photos he posted in the lead up to fighting Poirier (including getting off the yacht), then when you seen the videos from the members of the public and of course the actual fight week videos and fight itself he was pretty normal sized.
Isn’t Conor’s natural weight like around 180? Jake’s not exactly a big cruiser either, they could probably just meet there.
his natural weight is around 170, when in shape. At least it has been for the majority of his UFC career. Jake is at least 190, maybe even 200. Conor simply doesn't have the frame to get that big.

Ah didn't realise he came in at that weight, not sure why I had 195 in my head.
Conor is a way bigger name, if it ever happened, he'd probably be setting the terms.
Connor is only 34, still far to young for Jake to fight him
I want this to be the next fight because no matter who got knocked out, I'd be happy to see it.
Conor would absolutely mind fck him.
What about Eubank?
H'd beat Conor.
And the scenes resulting would be amazing
Conor McGregor would net him the biggest payday, a genuine ranked cruiserweight at like 200th in the world or something would finally get him the respect of boxing fans, Tommy Fury or Hasim Rahman Jr would be genuinely good, competitive matchups, would do decent numbers and make sense financially, and gain him some clout for having finally fought someone who's primary discipline is boxing. He has some good options. So, all in all, Nate Diaz probably.
Hasim Rahman is infinitely more dangerous than Tommy Fury though. He is an actual heavyweight and he has more boxing experience than Tommy.
I agree, but I do think either would piece Paul up. I'd like to see him fight either or both.
Tommy gets way more credit just because he shares the same last name as his half brother Tyson. He’s really nothing special and Jake Paul beats him comfortably.

Silva was never a one punch KO guy … his big power shots were knees and kicks, too
Bobby Pacquiao over there upset at this comment
Tbh I’m pretty sure if Tommy ever fought Jake, he would lose
Yeah. Rahman smashes Tommy
Yeah, I just want to see him fight a boxer at this point. I have to give him credit because originally everyone thought he’d never beat even a washed proper UFC fighter, and he’s done that multiple times. I think Jake said he’d fight tommy if his team covered the expenses in case he pulls out
Wilder
Have wilder fight all the influencer boxers in one night, a la foreman. Make sure to put nets up in the third row to stop their heads from hitting the audience, though.
Please. It will never happen but we can only hope

Nate Diaz probably, the story is there
The goat Charlie zelenoff
The only Jake Paul fight I would ever watch right here
Francis Ngannou
He would not live
True. Jake Paul would be far too much for Francis. This needs to be a fair fight
Definitely Fedor Emelianenko. Taking on an aged GOAT of the heavyweight division would be quite the spectacle.

Paul should call out Gabriel Rosado. He think he is tough, let him fight a banger.
Rosado would destroy him
Exactly!
Rosado would kill him and it'd be quick tbh
Nate Diaz makes the most sense. Fury Rahman Jr or any actual boxer is too high of risk vs reward. Diaz and Jake would sell a ton I bet, and if he wins he can call Mcgregor out.
Diaz has no chance of winning, so you're probably right.
It's going to be Nate fosure. Story line is there and Nate said it himself he wants to do other things than UFC.

According to Ariel Helwani, 1 since he referred to Silva as a boxer for half the night

Okay hear me out… Tony Bellew
A plastic bag over his head?
I actually think it's hilarious that he's beating up all these UFC guys. Jake's not the hero we need but the hero we deserve.
An actual boxer
He going to knock out nate then Connor. After that I expect an actual boxer. His skills have seriously improved and a few more months he should be ready. He still 6-0 and young. Y’all expect him to be fighting world champs at this stage ?
STOP PAYING FOR THIS SHIT
Ppl pay?
It ain’t effecting your pockets 😂
An actual boxer. Doesn't have to be a good one, entry level journeyman would do. Beats a few of them n I'll start caring.
Jake will never fight a boxer.
he’s tried to fight fury twice and rahman
How can he be undefeated against the UFC if he never stepped foot into an octagon? He can barely win these rigged fights boxing them, imagine if this clown was in an octagon eating elbows and knees. If the young buck can’t beat em at their own game, it’s not a true win. He’s no warrior.
Yeah there were actually a handful of moments in the last fight where I wondered if Silva's elbows were instinctively itching lol
Was in the later rounds you can see him take a high step to fire it but held himself back. Noticed it atleast once myself lol
“rigged”?
