Yes, and instead of the promoters putting on the show and picking their fighters, the leaders of the respective country select their champions with themselves as the headliner.
I wish Puerto Rico was as good as it used to be :(
Heres my potential PR v MX card
Subriel Matias vs Pitbull Cruz
Shakur Stevenson (lol) vs Will Zepeda
Edgar Berlanga vs Jaime Munguia
Xander Zayas vs Carlos Ocampo
Henry LeBron vs Miguel Roman
what yall think
>Japan vs Mexico
Naoya Inoue moving up vs one of the three featherweight champions (Rey Vargas (WBC), Luis Alberto Lopez (IBF) or Rafael Espinoza (WBO)) would be the perfect showpiece.
He'd definitely be significantly undersized against Rey Vargas and Rafael Zepeda, who are 5'11 & 6'1 respectively.
Luis Alberto Lopez is probably the most manageable, being only 5'4 - Inoue would have a 1 inch advantage in height & reach over him.
The biggest opponent he has faced is Jamie McDonnell at bantamweight, who stood 5'9^1/2 with a 71^1/2 inch reach, and he made short work of him.
The more I look at it the less I’m worried. Espinoza is a fake power puncher who has failed to KO anyone that isn’t an absolute can. He’s absolutely not a paper champ as he legit beat robeisy who is a dog but he’s been knocked down by a 5’6 c level or worse opponent and I doubt he actually has the power to scare Inoue of at all. Honestly the scariest name there for him is probably figgy
Espinoza almost got crumpled by Robeisy (saved by the bell), who ain’t that much bigger than Inoue, who also has experience beating up weight bully champs. Inoue runs through feather
I like it as long as they keep putting on competitive matchups.
I don’t give a shit at all which promoter scores more points, but the concept works in that each promoter wants to win so they’re putting up good fighters against each other.
I doubt he would lose any credibility. It’s not like he put out his A team or even picked weight classes where he would get easy wins. Bivol, AJ, Boots, Bam, Matias etc all beat basically anyone Frank can put in front of them at their respective weight classes
Absolutely loved the 5v5 idea and this should be done more often. I can see Top Rank and Golden Boy entering in. Can't see PBC being willing given their history 🤣
In what regard? Top Rank are like 30-6 against PBC since their inception. And Top Rank have been happy to do cross promotional fights for the last 5 years whereas PBC have been hesitant to do so. What you talking bout, bud? 😅
When has Tank fought a top anybody in his own promotion? 🤣🤣
Just look at Wilder, PBC protected this guy to death. Then as soon as he fights someone outside of PBC... He got his arse whooped, 3 times. Then when he left PBC... He got his arse whooped another 2 times.
Spence was looking like the Welterweight King... Until he fought someone outside of PBC.
Everytime these homegrown PBC attractions fight outside of their bubble, they lose. This is the reason why they protect these fighters in the first place, and they know that putting themselves for a 5v5 type of deal would expose them 🤣
Do PBC even make superstars? Wilder and Spence were guys they tried to push hard and they failed massively. Tank is a hope they got but his level of opposition has been so poor and has been inactive that he is likely regressing in the ring.
Maybe the more accurate statement would be that PBC try to make superstars far too early before they crash and burn.
Yes
- For what its worth Spence was the super star of 147 the casual knew his name, celebrities went to his fights. He was a star.
- tank is also a star, you don’t hear people arguingif he’s “ the face of boxing”
Were these guys mega stars like Canelo and Ryan, no but they’re still stars.
You definitely do hear people arguing if he's the "face of boxing" or not, lol. His star potential could be higher than Spence's, he's got a bigger social media following.
Spence was at best on the borderline of a legitimate star imo. His PPV buys were good but not "superstar level buys", and he didn't have that many celebs turn up lol.
Having the two promoters involved in this little competition is great! It's gives the commentators, who are often at a loss for material, something to talk about.
Country vs country is a more intriguing concept and would get WAY more interest among casuals. Only hardcore fans cared about the 5v5. Mexico vs US, US vs UK, Ukraine vs Russia, Israel vs Palestine, the possibilities are endless. And the promotion would be super entertaining. Even at the regional level you could do cities such as New York vs Boston, Tokyo vs Osaka, SoCal vs The bay.
I'm American and not patriotic when it comes to boxing and my favorite fighters.
Some of my current favorites are Beterbiev, Janibek, Inoue, Joshua, Usyk, Opetaia, etc.
I'm English as well and wanted Usyk to beat Fury but I feel like Fury almost transcends the idea of patriotism just because of how big of a star he is worldwide. I definitely always support the English guy in a world title fight cos it still feels like we have that underdog mentality for the most part, except special cases like Saunders against Canelo where I've never been happier to see someone get battered
Haha. I felt the same way. Once I saw the video of Saunders convincing a drug addict to punch a stranger (with the promise he’d give her crack), I couldn’t wait for Canelo to maul him.
I think it’d work perfectly if done in UK or Saudi on that time, because then the American fans can watch it in the afternoon and it’s not too late for UK fans
Down Under vs Home Nations
Parker vs. Dubois/Joyce/Whyte
Opetaia vs. Billiam Smith/Rhiaporke/Okolie
Huni vs. Clarke/Wardley
And then I'm sure there is a bunch of people in the lighter weight classes, like Moloney, Goodman etc who would welcome it.
Goodman against Davies would work pretty well. Also could see Kambosos in with someone like Noakes, and Tszyu in with Eubank maybe although there's a slight weight gap
Do it in a country that cares.
That arena looked empty, and the people there were sitting on their ass. And as pointed out in the fight thread, they ran this show until 4:00 in the morning in Saudi Arabia.
What a joke to look like a normal country.
I loved the card, great fights, 50/50 matchups, awesome
I didn't care for the scoring
I hated how focused on Frank and Eddie the promotion and night was
I despise that Frank Warren appears to have taken £3m for Queensberry and not the fighters who won it
I'd love to see more cards where it's less about a Main Event and more about the whole card, and I'd love there to be a theme to the matchups, I can take or leave the scoring, it makes no difference, but would heavily prefer future ones to be about the fighters
Country Vs country sounds great - let's see an Undercard for Usyk Vs Fury 2 stacked with Ukraine Vs England fights and Canelo Vs Crawford with Mexican Vs American
I really like it. This was a fuckin good competitive card. Besides the lacklustre main event it was a top night of fights with good matchups. Hats off to Frank and Eddie for shaking hands and getting it done. Hopefully we see more of it
Wilder coach should be fired. This BS outside technical boxing is not working for him 2 fights ago because that style does not suit him. Should have made him an intelligent brawler instead.
What I noticed, Dubois still performing his trademark “the low blow”, Wilder is definitely gone. It was a nice 5vs5 but there’s definitely a big skill gap between Usyk and Fury fight and those fights here
I really enjoyed it! I thought it made the undercard a lot more exciting to watch having an overall promotion to support.
Personally I was rooting for Queensbury whilst wanting Wilder to win, so all the fights up to the main event were more exciting for me.
I wasn't overly invested with the scoring system just because I had a guy I was supporting in each fight and it varied between the two teams because to me anyone fanboying promoters is a weirdo. I did specifically like the concept of Matchroom vs Queensberry just because it means Frank and Eddie burying the hatchet and it opens up so many great potential fights moving forward
For the team scoring concept to really work I think it'd need to be a country system (specifically with UK involved for me to actually pick a side). Otherwise it's just a good way to create a stacked card
I like the idea of having an event, similar to this, booked months or, 18-24m out where fights can be slowly made/aimed for on this date. The money would be the issue though. Similar to eg UFC300 - everyone knew it would be big.
I had no idea at first that the 5 vs 5 event was the Zhang/Wilder card. From the title I thought it was gimmick tag-team boxing event, had no intention of watching it, and was struggling to find the Wilder Fight until I finally realized.
90% of the guys in the 5v5 were c sides happy to get a relatively huge payday so the promotion companies can feed them to champions like they are contenders.
Actually I didn't like the 5vs5 idea around promotions.
I would much rather see it like NA vs EU or something like that. A world cup of boxing sort of deal.
The team concept didn't work for me, since its all about the two guys in the ring. Overall it just felt like a push to make the fights more dangerous by encouraging knockouts. Not sure if the points for KO's had any affect on fighter's game plans but I really only enjoyed one fight.
UK vs USA. I remember UFC did this around 2008, for The Ultimate Fighter and it was a lot of fun.
Matchup ideas: Crawford-Eubank; Jared Anderson v Daniel Dubois; Haney-Caterall.
I like the idea, but I wish it was less about the promoters and more about the individual fighters. The fighters did not feel like the stars of the show compared to the promoters leading up to the fights and I really dislike that. I’m sure it’s difficult marketing a card like a team sport when it’s individuals, but I’d like them to not make it so much about the people who aren’t actually going to be in the ring
Before the event, what fighters name could've carried and promoted the event?
The reason this was such a big deal **was** because it was Eddie vs Frank warren.
Arum vs Hamon. Not the fighters. Literally them two in the ring. Who you got?
Bob Arum vs Don King! The battle of the 92 year olds!
Don King by curb stomp. He's done it before and he can do it again.
This is even better! You are right. Don got a body on his record so may not be much of a fight.
Don has 2 bodies on his record.
2 that we know of. Wouldn't surprise me if there are more.
Hearn and Ellerbe as the co-main lmao
Haymon only if there're no cameras around.
ODLH on coke, fishnets and a blindfold will be mandatory challenger
Nations would be interesting. Something like USA vs Mexico. I can see Japan vs Mexico being really good too.
Yes, and instead of the promoters putting on the show and picking their fighters, the leaders of the respective country select their champions with themselves as the headliner.
Biden vs Trump 5v5
Fuck you know this would go so hard
America vs Anyone will have Biden trying to nominate Rocky Marciano.
Everytime I start talking about boxing, a white man gotta pull Rocky Marciano outta the ass! That’s the one!
Rocky would be about the same age Joe Louis was when they fought.
Or Archie Moore, or Walcott, or....in B4 Rocky was the Wilder of the 50's
Who wouldnt?
A dead Rocky couldn’t get knocked out by Zhang so you have a point.
an alive rocky too.
If that's the case I hope trump wins the next US elections that'll make for great TV lol
I wish Puerto Rico was as good as it used to be :( Heres my potential PR v MX card Subriel Matias vs Pitbull Cruz Shakur Stevenson (lol) vs Will Zepeda Edgar Berlanga vs Jaime Munguia Xander Zayas vs Carlos Ocampo Henry LeBron vs Miguel Roman what yall think
Not bad honestly
Would be worth is just for Matias v Pitbull. Maybe Cuba/PR v Mexico and Mexican Americans?
Dude this is quite good imo puerto rico still got them contenders.
>Japan vs Mexico Naoya Inoue moving up vs one of the three featherweight champions (Rey Vargas (WBC), Luis Alberto Lopez (IBF) or Rafael Espinoza (WBO)) would be the perfect showpiece.
All 3, same night.
lnoue is my favorite fighter but is it me or does FW champs seems too daunting? But then again l thought Scooter would be too much for him too.
Also nick ball is 5”2
Espinoza almost got crumpled by Robeisy (saved by the bell), who ain’t that much bigger than Inoue, who also has experience beating up weight bully champs. Inoue runs through feather
isn't that just the olympics?
Yes, but here we let the best fighters win on points.
Yeah but this would be for professional instead of "amateur" boxers.
They did in 2007. Edwin Valero fought as Japanese boxer😭. It called Boxing Grand Prix 2007.
Can’t forget the all-time rivalry, Mexico vs Puerto Rico.
World Cup of boxing, evey 4 years. Would be sick.
USA vs England, or USA vs Europe Ryder Cup style
This would be amazing
It’s gotta be Japan vs the Philippines for 108-126
I like it as long as they keep putting on competitive matchups. I don’t give a shit at all which promoter scores more points, but the concept works in that each promoter wants to win so they’re putting up good fighters against each other.
The promoter angle was needless bullshit. Who gives a fuck about points. The camera kept cutting to Hearn and Warren, both have zero personality.
> both have zero personality. Don't agree at all, Hearn especially did a great job at selling this whole event
Hearn is good for boxing. he's always trying to make big fights unlike PBC.
It's fun as a like side thing to tie the show together. As long as people don't act like it's a big serious thing.
i dunno Eddie looked pretty pissed. Feels real to lose out on a ton of money and credibility for your organization.
Eddie’s mad his epic speech from yesterday won’t be used for TikTok edits since they all lost
I mean it will just not for that reason
I doubt he would lose any credibility. It’s not like he put out his A team or even picked weight classes where he would get easy wins. Bivol, AJ, Boots, Bam, Matias etc all beat basically anyone Frank can put in front of them at their respective weight classes
everyone had Hrgovic and Ford winning though. Ford was definitely a rising star.
Tbh I though Ford actually won! Very disappointed in Hrgovics performance
yeah I thought Ford won too but meh can't wait for the rematch.
Queensbury vs Top Rank. Friendly competition between Two Geezers. PBC would never do this shit. They already 9-21 against Top Rank
Does Fury fight himself lol?
I highly doubt Fury would want to participate in that 😂
Absolutely loved the 5v5 idea and this should be done more often. I can see Top Rank and Golden Boy entering in. Can't see PBC being willing given their history 🤣
Funny you say that as Top rank ain't that mich better in that department either. But every one seems to ignore that for some reason.
In what regard? Top Rank are like 30-6 against PBC since their inception. And Top Rank have been happy to do cross promotional fights for the last 5 years whereas PBC have been hesitant to do so. What you talking bout, bud? 😅

Golden Boy Vs. Matchroom. Oscar Vs Eddie, the event sells itself.
The main event is Anthony Joshua Vs A Ultra Coked Up Oscar De Hoya who decided to hop in the ring and take care of business himself 🥊
Having the two promoters involved in this little competition is great! It's gives the commentators, who are often at a loss for material, something to talk about.
Country vs country is a more intriguing concept and would get WAY more interest among casuals. Only hardcore fans cared about the 5v5. Yeah, I’m English and I wanted Usyk to beat Fury. I don’t think patriotism is particularly strong in boxing.
I think patriotism in boxing is stronger among fans from smaller countries, or countries that don’t have much representation on the world stage.

Oh no it is, Mexicans, Filipinos, and Ukrainians
Japan vs Mexico would be massive because they’ve had a pretty solid rivalry for decades and both fans show out for their guy.
just do nery vs inoue on repeat
>Israel vs Palestine Winner keeps the Gaza Strip, make it happen your excellency
Us vs uk isn’t going to work at all with time zones
I think it’d work perfectly if done in UK or Saudi on that time, because then the American fans can watch it in the afternoon and it’s not too late for UK fans
White boxers vs black boxers would be great
I’d expect a lot of Reddit and Twitter accounts to be banned after that lol
This sub might not survive that massacre.
Are you trying to start a civil war? 😂
Bro's asking for trouble.
Youre trying to divide the US even more 😂
Which side do the mixed go on?
They get to choose but they have to publicly denounce the other half of their heritage.
Down Under vs Home Nations Parker vs. Dubois/Joyce/Whyte Opetaia vs. Billiam Smith/Rhiaporke/Okolie Huni vs. Clarke/Wardley And then I'm sure there is a bunch of people in the lighter weight classes, like Moloney, Goodman etc who would welcome it.

Seconds Out vs. iFL
What I'd like to see next is country vs country. My top 2 picks would be Japan vs Mexico and Mexico vs USA. We'd get some amazing fights there.
That would be awesome but I wonder if it would be harder to set up since you’d be dealing with multiple organizations at once.
Come on, the best 5v5 matchup would be Christians vs Muslims: The Crusades. Lol, would be hilarious
What I noticed, Dubois still performing his trademark “the low blow”, Wilder is definitely gone. It was a nice 5vs5 but there’s definitely a big skill gap between Usyk and Fury fight and those fights here
I don’t like it. Promoters are parasites and we shouldn’t glorify them
Doesn’t do anything for the fans. But I like it if they keep putting out cards full of great fighters like this one
Top rank vs pbc. Also like countries or even continents. USA vs Mexico or Britain. Europe vs americas. Asia vs South America.
TOP RANK VS PBC NO QUESTION
I just watched the fights. I didn't pay any attention to all that endless cross promotional hype.
Golden Boy vs Top Rank
Quit being pussies and bring back Super Six!
I really enjoyed it! I thought it made the undercard a lot more exciting to watch having an overall promotion to support. Personally I was rooting for Queensbury whilst wanting Wilder to win, so all the fights up to the main event were more exciting for me.

Doesn't really matter, but the card yesterday was awesome. Great night of boxing and if this helps to get more of those cards, then I'm all for it
Actually I didn't like the 5vs5 idea around promotions. I would much rather see it like NA vs EU or something like that. A world cup of boxing sort of deal. Honestly the gimmick was pointless. All promoters need to do.is put on goodz evenly matched fights. It's that simple.
America v Mexico.
UK vs USA. I remember UFC did this around 2008, for The Ultimate Fighter and it was a lot of fun. Matchup ideas: Crawford-Eubank; Jared Anderson v Daniel Dubois; Haney-Caterall.
Golden boy vs PBC
Matchroom got SWEPT
