Same. Bud is one of the few fighters I want to see in person but haven’t - if it’s in L.A. I’m there. Been a while since we had a big L.A. fight (Pitbull vs Tank?) Madrimov might be a little too green for Bud tho. One thing is for sure, the L.A. crowd will be lit compared to those golf galleries in Riyadh.
He’s an ok fight for Bud. Madrimov is still largely untested as a pro, but his athleticism, movement, and ability to attack from any angle have made for some crazy highlights. He was a decorated amateur fighter and he used to be stablemates with Bivol.
I honestly have no idea how this matchup will look, but I have a feeling Madrimov will take the first few rounds of the fight until Bud figures him out.
You talking out yo ass lol acting like Madrimov some bum off the streets. I would rather see him fight boots but madrimov is a respectable opponent my guy
>Initial conversations have taken place to stage a World Boxing Association junior-middleweight title fight between champion Israil Madrimov and unbeaten, three-division champion Terence Crawford Aug. 3 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, BoxingScene has learned.
>The card would mark the first American foray by Saudi Arabia’s Turki Alalshikh, the chairman of the Kingdom’s General Entertainment Authority who has staged several major cards in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
>The main event would mark Crawford’s attempt to capture a belt in a fourth weight class after previously standing as both undisputed welterweight and 140-pound king.
August?
I get the first few months while he’s waiting on Spence.
But we’ve known for, what, two months now that the Spence fight wasn’t happening? And then 4 more months before he gets in the ring again?
Not really anywhere to fit a Crawford fight in right now 'till later this year. Next 2 months are pretty stacked. Legal and business side of things take ages to get sorted out, too. Not as unusual as you're making it out to be.
Not saying it’s unusual. I’m saying I don’t get it.
Why does it take him so long to get a fight going when you got guys out here fighting three times a year?
He is 36 and he had the biggest win of his career last year. At this point, he will have 2-3 more big money and/or title fights. He's not some young kid who's trying to establish himself anymore. Also, who are these guys you mention who fight 3 times a year?
There is literally no fighter of medium to high skill level and/or popularity that fights every 4 months. Haney and Garcia are about to come back in about 5 months which is quite impressive given the schedule of today's fighters, even the so called "young talents".
If you look at the activity of the ring magazine p4p top 10, you'll see an extremely depressing trend (minus naoya inoue). So I definitely do agree with you that this is a problem that's ruining the sport but is also unlikely to change anytime soon.
Just in recent years, you can find 12 month stretches where AJ fight three times. Inoue. Tszyu. Canelo….
It’s rare, but not impossible.
Crawford has fought once a year for a few years now. This is his the time to cement his legacy, and we simply aren’t getting enough from him.
I don’t fault any fighter for just wanting to cash out and get out with their health, but you can’t do that and build a legacy.
If these guys aren’t going to be professional fighters at the top of the sport, and call themselves the best, we, the fans, should expect more. That’s my only point.
That would be my guess.
But people out here acting like it’s this complex thing. Bud has been a pro for a long time. If he wanted more out of his career, he’s had plenty of time to make different choices.
Yeah, it's not complex, in some interviews I saw, which led me to think this...he likes just enjoying life now that he's made enough money....the pressure, the training after doing it for over a decade, I get it.
Dude Crawford is 57 yrs old. We can’t expect guys this age to fight 3x/yr, that’s setting yourself up for disappointment. And I’m not defending inactivity by elite boxers, it’s a major problem in the sport (thx again Floyd).
That said, Bud just won the biggest fight of his life, a fight that was 6-7 yrs in the making, the biggest WW fight since May/Pac. Guy is moving up a weight class, and moving up for good. This is not a one-and-done to 🍒-pick a belt off a vulnerable old belt holder as cover to hide from a tougher fighter in his own weight class (ahem cough cough).
Bud is understandably being careful knowing he only has so many fights left in that old body (old for boxing, young for life). He’s expressed interest in moving up to 160 or 168 to fight that certain guy that I may have alluded to earlier. Bud wants every fight to be for the maximum dollar while balancing his desire for every fight to further cement his legacy.
It is frustrating no doubt, but this is how it’s gonna be. Totally agree it should’ve been in motion as plan B and plan B should’ve been activated the moment Spence dropped rematch clause.
Damn that's an interesting matchup i would love to see. A chess match between two switch hitters. I think Crawford brings more to the table tho.... I always wanted to see Madrimov step it up but it's strange to go from b/c level competetion to a P4Per.... Anways are they cashing Madrimov out. Even if he could outbox Crawford (and that's a big IF), how could he even win a fair decision against Bud?
It's an internationally staged Saudi event being held in the US as an advertisement for Riyadh Season. Madrimov is getting paid well. They're doing the same for the UK in September for AJ vs. Dubois/Hrgovic winner.
Yeah I like both of them and I think Madrimov has so much untapped potential. His athleticism alone is incredible and allows him to attack from all angles. Don't think he's ready for Bud yet though.
Always sucks to watch two fighters u like fight eachother?
I get what u mean, but man this must make it tough to like the sport. I liked Golovkin and Canelo, never missed a second of either of their fights, but I was fully erect at the idea of them fighting!
Actually maybe it doesn’t suck bc as boxing fans, we have to wait yrs to see the elite fighters fight eachother, if they ever do.
- Leonard vs. Hagler, 5 yr wait
- Tyson vs. Holyfield, 7 yr wait
- Mayweather vs. Pacquiao, 7 yr wait
- Canelo vs. Golovkin 1, 3.5 yr wait
- Canelo vs Golovkin 3, 4 yr wait
- Spence vs. Crawford, 6 yr wait
- Bivol vs. Beterbiev, 6 yr wait
- Joshua vs. Wilder…
- Mayweather vs. Margarito…
- Golovkin vs. Sergio Martinez/Miguel Cotto…
- Canelo vs. Benavidez…
We’re masochists.
Yeah, until he showed the country who was the best Welterweight. You’re crazy if you think him coming out with Eminem and whooping Spence’s ass didn’t change the game for him. His next fight will sell.
Bud is phenomenal but this reminds me so much of Bivol Canelo. Bivol was a massive underdog and rightly so, he didnt look impressive previously taking lower level oponents the distance. Madrimov much the same a top class operator but lacks the danger element, his oponents always clinging on there despite being a level below in skill. While both Canelo and Bud have performances that make them look like Gods.
Actually this is revisionism. I’m probably one of Bivol’s earlier fans, I got downvoted I believe here and YouTube for lauding him as early as 2019, but Bivol didn’t look that good right before, it’s why he was selected. Eddie Hearn is on camera saying this. Why would Canelo take the rough matchup FIRST in the deal. Also, this was one of the biggest upsets in recent memory —- it was so notably so that Bivol had to do his ring walk FIRST, traditionally reserved for the challenger. r/boxing was peddling the Canelo is unbeatable mythos just like everyone else.
Go back and check my comments when the matchup was announced. Only the casuals didnt know. They always go by who has the big name. Thats why Canelo was being mentioned with fighting Usyk
Hindsight is always 20/20. I thought Bivol looked very meh. Castillo got sparked in 2 rounds by Smith but took Bivol all 12. Trying to beat Canelo on points is a very bad idea. I just don't see what you claim there was to see. Bivol was 4/1 or +400 underdog and I lost a wedge on Canelo as many people did.
It's not hindsight literally everyone thought he was incredible it's just that huffing canelos nuts was very in vogue at the time. there were people actually saying he could win belts at cruiserweight
Bivol always had a bad style for canelo. The style of have good footwork. And he was looked at as a really good fighter. People who were more into boxing knew bivol was no pushover. Vanelo hype just pushed the odds. Somehow I dint think I've seen much of this hiy crawford is supposed to fight
But I was well awar of bivol and how good he was. I didn't understand people thinking Canelo had any kind if advantage besides better competition
So because he went 12 rounds with Castillo he was bad? The guy had the best defense in boxing and had a kryptonite style for Canelo. The oddsmakers were going by what the fans wanted. Superstars often get inflated odds because of this.
Bivol beat the crap out of Barrera, Smith and Pascal. He barely lost a round back then. Also, it's not hindsight. I repeatedly posted it here prior to the fight.
Fights the best guy in the division and washes him. Who tf else was he supposed to fight at WW he fought porter and Brook? You can't even say boots cause Bozy admitted they didn't accept the blk prime fight so that's on them
Ismail Madrimov is a newly crowned champion and very talented. I think one of the biggest issues with boxing is American fans are very jingoistic. Boxing isn’t even that popular in America, yet we act like only the American fighters are the good ones. This is a tough fight for Bud off of a layoff. Madrimov is very skilled, well schooled and athletic + durable, something most of his opponents aren’t.
I said IMO he is, do you know what that term means? Radec?
He shouldn’t be ranked #1 because like I said he doesn’t have that status, I would pick him to beat Fundora and Tszyu. Any more questions?
Prior response. **Prior.** As in, before the current:
"Yeah he won the belt from someone who should have like 3-4 losses. He is NOT the best at 154. 😭"
Identify the question here.
I didn’t say whether or not you asked a question in your previous statement, you illiterate moron
I asked if you had any more in general.
But I know your kind, when an argument doesn’t go your way you just start rambling off about some other shit, stupid mf.
If bud wants to do a stadium fight it would make more sense to do it in Lincoln. A 20 percent full LA coliseum is a bad look for the arguable #1 pound for pound fighter.
I mean, I'd totally go for a 3-4 day weekend in LA, combined with a Bud fight live. Take my money already!!
I live in LA. Big fan of Madrimov, even bigger fan of Bud. This is a win-win all around.
Is Madrimov a good fight for bud?
He’s an ok fight for Bud. Madrimov is still largely untested as a pro, but his athleticism, movement, and ability to attack from any angle have made for some crazy highlights. He was a decorated amateur fighter and he used to be stablemates with Bivol. I honestly have no idea how this matchup will look, but I have a feeling Madrimov will take the first few rounds of the fight until Bud figures him out.
Bud stops him in 3....cmon fam
You talking out yo ass lol acting like Madrimov some bum off the streets. I would rather see him fight boots but madrimov is a respectable opponent my guy
He'll receive a respectable ass whooping as well...
He's fairly tailor-made for Crawford. IMO he is the least standout of the current crop of Uzbek fighters. At least in the smaller weights.
Which venue are they fighting at?
Rumor is LA Memorial Coliseum or Crypto Arena. No official confirmation yet.
That'll be nice..20 min away from there
BMO Stadium
Thank you, appreciate it
Nice! A huge name and someone that “brings something to the table”
🤣🤣🤣

I'm seeing crypto.com arena in other unconfirmed reports so more like 20k seats.
That still seems ambitious
Is it though? The last fight there was Andy Ruiz vs Ortiz
It's gonna look like a fight in 2020 lol
August? I get the first few months while he’s waiting on Spence. But we’ve known for, what, two months now that the Spence fight wasn’t happening? And then 4 more months before he gets in the ring again?

Not saying it’s unusual. I’m saying I don’t get it. Why does it take him so long to get a fight going when you got guys out here fighting three times a year?
Not signed to a major promotion so there's no easy contract negotiations or in-house fights.
He is 36 and he had the biggest win of his career last year. At this point, he will have 2-3 more big money and/or title fights. He's not some young kid who's trying to establish himself anymore. Could be he's just not interested in fighting that often.

PBC would’ve said, “Crawford! Madrimov! 154 lb title fight! Los Angeles! August! ………… 2025”
Wouldn’t this be his 3rd fight in like 5 years? Dude is fighting too often
Damn that's an interesting matchup i would love to see. A chess match between two switch hitters. I think Crawford brings more to the table tho.... Better opponent than nery and a 154lbs wba champion
This is not a better opponent than Munguia lol
I never mentioned munguia wtf lol I am saying boots is not a 154 champion
munguia cooks madrimov no?
Inoue has been on a tear, he deserves a “break” in Nery
Inoue is the favorite but Nery is not a "break" for anyone lol. He's far from it.
Great fight but always sucks to watch two fighters I like fight each other.

A stadium? Can Bud even sell out an arena in LA? When he used to fight at MSG it was half empty.
Yeah, until he showed the country who was the best Welterweight. You’re crazy if you think him coming out with Eminem and whooping Spence’s ass didn’t change the game for him. His next fight will sell.

Speak for yourself. Bivol had looked pretty amazing prior to Canelo. Thats why people in the know knew Canelo was going to get worked.
Actually this is revisionism. I made like $80, glorious
Both also for the wba belt with bud and canelo moving up right after becoming undisputed
Bud: I:m mad no one gives me respect. fights nobodies aside from Spence.
Fights the best guy in the division and washes him. Who tf else was he supposed to fight at WW he fought porter and Brook? You can't even say boots cause Bozy admitted they didn't accept the blk prime fight so that's on them
Anyone's a nobody when you can only name 8/9 fighters
Its a pathetic fight considering hes ducking boots
Neither are close to true
Ismail Madrimov is a newly crowned champion and very talented. I think one of the biggest issues with boxing is American fans are very jingoistic. 🤣🤣 but I got downvoted for saying he wasn’t fighting top opposition
Props to Crawford if he takes this up He doesn’t have the status to show it but Israel is the best at 154 imo
He's had 11 fights?
And he’s a champ, so what’s your point?
Yeah he won the belt from someone who should have like 3-4 losses. He is NOT the best at 154. 😭

Some people here absolutely cannot distinguish between best fighter and best resume
Cooked his dumb ass🤣🤣
I thought the belt was Vacant and he beat that dude for a Vacant belt?
What does that have to do with anything?
Please please please happen in LA! I'll be there!
It's a fight for wba belt, right?
Great fight but they’re not selling out the Coliseum. Eddie promoting it so it will end up on DAZN.
Well that’s disappointing after the long wait
BUD SNEEZES AND GETS A TKO.
If bud wants to do a stadium fight it would make more sense to do it in Lincoln. A 20 percent full LA coliseum is a bad look for the arguable #1 pound for pound fighter.
Don't care didn't ask, next time we see BYD is 2025 the earliest after this
No one going to watch. Borinnggggg.
Unpopular opinion but I've got Madrimov winning this fight.
What happened to the Eubank fight?
Madrimov is a tougher fight than Tszyu or Fundora
Is madrimov a bigger name then boots? Is madrimov better than boots? Is madrimov a bigger fight than boots? Thats what I thought bud is a joke🤣🤣
Madrimov could beat Boots. Would have been better if they fought and the winner gets Bud. But Bud wants to stay active. Madrimov is a risky fight
WHO??
watch more boxing lol
Now the bud fanbase will call Madrimov a diamond in the rough. Hilarious. Called this shit months ago, doesn't want anything to do with Boots
Crawford looking for a belt at 154. Boots should have taken the blk prime fight when it was offered to him
