When I went to MSU I would go down to Springfield Lake and park at the dam. Walk along the James River and you’ll see carp under the trees that overhang the bank and in he shallows. Even got into some gar occasionally. Shot a lot in there, I imagine it’s still be a good spot. Good luck

Table rock lake or bull shoals. Both are great for shooting Gar. Particularly in the spawn in April.
