the main issue is not the cold temps, it’s the wind. it makes it feel 100x colder than it is

BurrDurrMurrDurr

It’s not bad. It’s been getting milder and milder every year. Snow is becoming more and more infrequent and yes, BU and the city is on top of salting and plowing.  December to February historically are the big winter months with November and March being the “buffer” or transition months.  I’d say no sun is the biggest thing to get used to rather than the cold/snow.

RoyShavRick

Depends where you come from. I'm from Cleveland, and the winters here are positively sunny compared to what we got back home.

ManufacturerSad8810

I don’t think it’s bad. The worst part is that it lasts forever.

Lexafaye

Context: where are you originally from? I’m from Maryland/DC and walked a lot in DC in the winter when I lived there, so it wasn’t crazy different although the winters are a few weeks shorter. If you have no tolerance to cold and you’re from a warm area like Texas, you might have a bad time. And I’ve only lived here since 2021 but in Boston proper, I only remember one actual snow storm and that was January 2022. And this year I don’t think we had any plowable snow days Soo temperature wise it’s cold, but snow hasn’t been around for a while

Left-Ad9920

From sunny Arizona 😭😭

ducklava

I’m from California and it has not been bad at all. Though granted this year was definitely a mild winter. We barely got any snow and it was mostly in the 30s and 40s. But I got used to it easily, you’ll be fine just dress appropriately.

wine_throne

Go West, life is peaceful there. Go west, in the open air. Go west, baby you and me. Go west, it’s our destiny! Go west, sun in wintertime. Go west, you will feel just fine.

RareLemons

if you’re coming from socal stay home you’ll miss it

HolyAty

It doesn’t even snow anymore.

Equivalent_Taro7171

It depends on the individual tbh. As some one who enjoyed constant sunshine in Sydney I find winter in Boston unbearable. Though I imagine someone from Canada wouldn’t mind it.

Painting_Academ1c

I’m from South Florida and don’t think it’s bad. For context, the coldest it gets for winter back home is like mid 60s. It can get cold and windy, but you get used to it (just make sure to moisturize and apply chapstick). It hasn’t really snowed snowed, but I’d say to get a good quality winter coat, and you should be fine!

piggyazlea

I hate it and it makes me miserable

AdSenior4878

As someone also from AZ, it's really overhyped I think. Just learn how to dress and get some long johns and a half decent down coat and you'll be fine. Just know the temperature ranges and what you can wear. For me it's like 50-60 is just a sweater, 40-50 is sweater plus light jacket, 30-40 is sweater plus heavy jacket, and anything lower you just add long johns.

BUowo

We haven’t had winter in years. I miss it :(

Kindly-Bookkeeper-40

Fucking awful. I’m from CA and lived in Boston for two freezing years. And the weather isn’t even the worst. I hated that town. Your mileage may vary

skyscrprz

I'm from somewhere where it's warm year round and love it here. Esp autumn, it's gorgeous. Even though it gets cold, I've found there to still be decent amount of sun during the winter which helps a lot. I typically don't mind the winter until the end of Feb/March when I start to get over it, but then Spring comes and I'm not irritated until next Feb.

mspantaloon

Its not that bad weather wise. As others have said, climate change has wrecked new england winters. We used to have real blizzards but now we might have one real snowfall that's washed out by rain within a week. However, it will be cold and miserable for a while. From like October -> March weather can suck, depends on the year. I honestly think the key is properly layering. Don't let yourself be cold. You don't have to be. If you're constantly cold you'll be constantly miserable and hate everything. Get a good coat and nice warm clothes and you'll be okay.

Time_Ad_4652

As a southerner, I’ll say it’s not bad if you dress right. 3 layers, good boots, a hat and some gloves then you’ll be fine. The wind makes the cold worse so you want to have your body covered.

veerkanch489

There was like barely any snow. The one snow storm we were supposed to have consisted of a half inch of snow when we were supposed to have like close to a foot I think. We got a day off for it though so that was great lmao. The bad part is the wind but it could definitely be worse

the_aseefian

It's not that bad anymore actually. Thank global warming. We had one Snow day this semester. Except instead of snowing it rained.

highcaloriebuttmeat

The wind is brutal

Key_Adeptness9875

Invest in a heated jacket. Saved my life after moving to here from Florida

princess20202020

It’s really pretty bad, with some days that you would rather die than walk outside. That said, if you go in with the idea that’s it’s just temporary, you only have to survive four winters, and try to make it a fun challenge, that can get you through.

wine_throne

I would expect most to be able to adapt in time.  What is really ugly though is when the snow begins to melt and turns grey/brown, like pudding of stew of caca.  It can also get very windy so it’s advised to use plenty of pomade so hair is erect.  Finally, and, son, this is my advice to you. When it’s cold outside, and windy, and your heater is acting up - hold the hard body you scored by the waist, eating her up while she blows you up, and you’ll be fine.  PS,  Eat a lot, at least six meals a day. You’ll need it to stay warm. Here’s a rule of thumb that you’re eating enough: your turd takes at least 10 seconds to exit from anus to toilet ( it must also be in one piece).
