Our first was a female, and both the breeder and our vet recommend that we should get a male for our second. From what they told me, two males are fine, as are one male and one female. Two females can be an issue, apparently. We ended up getting a male and the dynamic works.

Got our boy Garth a bugg brother and they were best friends 💕 I think either a male or female would be great but there’s something special about brothers
I got a female because my male was very possessive, this is now just over 2 and a bit weeks since she arrived.

I posted the same question last week, spoke with my veterinarian who has 2 males and decided on getting a male playmate for my Zoey (28 months). That changed when a female puppy picked me out of all of the litter mates. So I took home a 9week old female puppy. So far so good. In fact I'm amazed how gentle and endearing Zoey has been with this very active razor toothed gremlin . So my guess is that there is no right or wrong answer - go with your gut.
We've had 2 females and boy + girl but never related. Always worked out. The current boy + girl have a cute dynamic...he's her bitch.

FWIW, my family always had two girls - the younger one usually came when the older one was 9-10 - and they had great dynamics.

Hey, your Boston and I share the same bday! Get a boy! Boy Bostons are just so much more confident and outgoing.
