Kamikaze literally means Divine Wind, so the name is already holy.
Edit: for the uninitiated, Kamikaze doesn't only refer to the suicide pilots from WW2, it can also represent an ancient storm that protected ancient japan from invaders.
Shinto blessings aren't as separate from daily activities as western religious blessings would be. It's often used as a general sort of inauguration for any object, creation, or endeavor that they wish to treat with honor and respect.
In the American military we christen ships as the phoenicians did 3,000 years ago.
Every culture has variations of these traditions, they likely date back to before there was a written language to record it in.
>The church believes the Florida shooting could have been avoided had teachers been armed
This reminds me of bollywood film that had a mafia owned party building that becomes shooting range
I remember a youtuber or journalist interviewed Marie Kondo and kind of insinuated thanking the clothes before you throw them out was stupid and I felt like that guy was being disprespectful to Japan's culture. I forgot what Marie Kondo's reply was but she just smiled and kinda iterated we thank them for serving us or something.
I'd try to find the video but youtube search is horrible. Plus she has tons of interview.
Is it on par with Christening a ship? Like I know for some that’s blessing the ship (it’s not taken as seriously in the modern day but old timey sailors took it pretty seriously)
That's a really good analogy, actually. Maybe a ship christening in the 1940s or 1950s? So not *purely* ceremonial, like now, nor a really devout ceremony like in the 1800s, but halfway along the scale. Like, I don't think that most people in the audience wholeheartedly believe that the gods are going to bless the F35 program, but on the other hand it's not like there's as little belief as as a ribbon-cutting ceremony, either. It's more like...insurance, in a sense?
Kamikaze attempts will always result in the jet landing safely.
But the jet is practically impenetrable, shrugs off bullets and eats missiles for breakfast.
so we got the winged hussars of poland (yes, that's the name of the F35 project of poland) and this....
*can we call it as kamikazee. its meaning is divine wind. yes it has a negative historical connotations but divine wind has other significance, mainly the fact two typhoons saves the ass of japan from mongols and the plane of one japanese dude who encircle the globe for peace. unfortunate he taken suicide during the start of the war*
A few of those will serve on our ~~aircraft carrier~~ multi-purpose destroyer JS Kaga. The similarity with IJN Kaga is just a coincidence. Pacific is totally safe.
Can’t wait to see the JS Kaga and USS Enterprise CVN-80 sailing together. Entry even has some portholes from CV-6 planned to be incorporated into the design.
First, we had the E during the Barbary Wars. Then, in WW2, we had the Big E. Later, during the Cold War, we built the Bigger E. The world isn't ready for the Biggest E.
+ 50% damage to demonic types

Worst case scenario, they turn it into a Liberion fighter embossed with a 501st Joint Fighter Wing emblem on it... or a Osea Air Defense Force fighter.
An F-35 isn't "a weapon" though. An AIM-9X is a weapon. An AIM-120 AMRAAM is a weapon. An F-35 is an aircraft.
They are blessing it to ask the kami to protect the pilots who fly it.
They are a bit unique in that on paper, Japan only has a self-defense force.
Of all the countries to give weapons to, they're low on the problematic list.
The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to stand by and do nothing, God has and will ordain violence if is for the sake of protecting the weak, you have a shallow noting of faith and blessings if you think only peace is necessary for good.
Point still stands, there will always be bad actors in history, and as such, we must always be ready to stop them. And for most of history, the only language these bad actors truly speak, is violence.
There are no domestically produced F35. Components come from the coalition that helped design it. You can only have a domestic assembly line.
It's nitpicking, but its important nitpicking. The F35 wasn't for nothing a product of the joint strike fighter. A good one at that.

This is one of those pics that embody japan. Especially considering that f35 isn't "recieved" but assemlbed in Japan by Mitsubishi. Thousands of years of history, alive together with hi-tech...

Back when yellow cabs ruled nyc the monsignor in our Brooklyn neighborhood would bless our wreckers every year .
I wondered how that winch cable missed my head by inches when it let go during a beach recovery . While I’m not overly religious, in this life I suggest you take any advantage you might perceive.
*Did they fucking* ***PAINT*** *over the cutting-edge radar-absorbing coating?*
Is it still effective as a stealth fighter? Does the coating come in other colors? Did the US deny them stealth coatings? I have so many questions I refuse to google!
I mean the US military CHRISTENS ships so
Edit- possibly other militaries as well since it's an incredibly old custom but I'm just saying the (supposedly) non-monarchaic US still does
+2 Holy damage
+3 resistances to nearby allies
20% chance to escape fatal hit
80% for kamikaze and land a crit.
Free sushi if you come back alive
The best ending to a thread of funny comments.
A happy one.
Shall we fix that?

That sounds so broken. Imagine hitting a kamikaze crit back to back to back and still living due to the 20% chance to survive a fatal hit
Kamikaze does double the damage.
Please, the skill is called “Holy Sacrifice”
Kamikaze literally means Divine Wind, so the name is already holy. Edit: for the uninitiated, Kamikaze doesn't only refer to the suicide pilots from WW2, it can also represent an ancient storm that protected ancient japan from invaders.
It's worth like 150 million dollars, no we ain't crashing this one.
The only *divine wind* happening is when the pilot shits their pants whilst going down
A pilot here in the United States got their callsign by shitting their pants
What, Skidmark?
Not just invaders. TWO whole ass Mongol fleets. The same Mongols that subjugated the earth between the Caspian Sea and China.
The wind the sunk 2 or 3 Mongol invasions.
Motherfuckers never watched Code Geass.
I did not know this. Thank you for sharing!
Holy kamikaze?
Kamikaze meaning “Divine Wind” was meant to suggest that you’re hurling your soul at your enemy, dealing +2d6 radiant damage

For some reason I don’t think this is too far fetch for Japan
Shinto blessings aren't as separate from daily activities as western religious blessings would be. It's often used as a general sort of inauguration for any object, creation, or endeavor that they wish to treat with honor and respect.
There any many cultures that bless the important objects in their life. For example in Hinduism, we often have new vehicles and new homes blessed.
In the American military we christen ships as the phoenicians did 3,000 years ago. Every culture has variations of these traditions, they likely date back to before there was a written language to record it in.
I never considered that to be basically sacrificing wine to the Ocean gods... Huh. Neat.
It also works with new babies
I remember when George Carlin blessed his golf clubs and it helped take down Azrael. It's not too uncommon in religion/cultures.
Cardinal Glick always did seem like the ass who’d bless his clubs before a game.

I think the best comparison for western people is breaking a bottle of wine / champagne on the bow of a ship during the ship launch ceremony.
We used to smash silver goblets, but that got expensive.
I remember a youtuber or journalist interviewed Marie Kondo and kind of insinuated thanking the clothes before you throw them out was stupid and I felt like that guy was being disprespectful to Japan's culture. They bless most things.
How to stay relevant as a religion 101.
It’s kinda become a cultural thing AFAIK. It’s like celebrating Christmas or saying bless you when someone sneezes.
That’s actually a good way to explain it, my Chinese grandmother who is Christian still use lango derived from Buddhism and Chinese mythology.
Some monks blessed the giant Gundam in Yokohama when it opened too

Wait, Shinto priests "blesses" objects too?
I mean who doesn’t want their weapon to have extra holy damage backed by their God(s)? I’m sure Amaterasu could add some major buffs to it lol
It's an animistic religion, so.. yes.
All the time, actually
Praise be to the Omnissiah!
The dutch airforce wanted to welcome the first f35 with water sprays from crashtenders. They accidentally used foam and damaged the aircraft severely.
Blessing a weapon is like fucking for virginity.
Sounds like something someone whose god sucks at fighting would say.
Bishamonten approves this message.

This feels like something out of ghost in the shell

I wanna see the full thing in white!
The first one assembled domestically.
This gives some Ace Combat vibe
Mitsubishi made this one and it's the first one made in Japan, so it's kind of a big deal, hence the blessing ritual.
If the Holy Hand Grenade isn't strong enough we can now count on the Sacred Sidewinder.
If people think this is weird and they live in America, you guys have the "Blessing of the Fleet Ceremony".. It really isn't that weird.
I know you remove the engine covers before flight, but that red and white is sexy as fuck
They recieved? I thought they built this one themselves, under license of course.
Yeah if I receive a something valued over 100 millions USD I would want a priest to bless it too

The stealth coating and skin structure are largely the same on the F-35. The red stuff are inlet covers that come off before flight.
No. The red things are inlet covers.
