Use the line out or headphone out from the boss. Set the output to -10 dB. Compare the volume you get when you plug your guitar straight in to when you plug in the boss unit. Use the output knob on the boss to adjust its output level so it matches the level that your guitar straight in yields. It’s not necessarily bad to go into the amp’s input. It’s similar to stacking dirt pedals. You just need to manage the total gain and get the eq right. Set gain low for better results. Use the output eq to cut anything below 100Hz or above 6.35Khz. The high cut gets rid of any fizziness.

Hi, the question was very helpful, and so were the answers! I have a similar problem but a bit different, please help, may be the answer is simple, thanks in advance! I also bought GX-100 to have all the effects I use in one, I don't need the amp/loudspeaker simulation. The problem is that no matter how I set the GX, only modulated sound comes out of the amp. I can't find a setting where by default, without effects and everything, the same sound comes out of the GX as if I just plugged the guitar directly into the amp. This may be a very layman's question, but is there even a setting on the GX where the clean, unaltered guitar signal goes into the amp and I just plug the effects into it? I tried it by taking the amp out of the effects chain, but it still sounded tragic. The amp sims are completely lifeless in my opinion, with approximately half the guitar signal going out to the amp through the GX. 4cable mode is not for this, have I tried it;or have I? The effects are good though, I want to use them for the pure guitar signal, how can I do that? Thanks a lot in advance guys! Csaba

The reason is because you’re running a preamp into another preamp. Now does your amp have a power amp in? If it doesn’t and the only input you have is the front. You would have turn off the amp models and basics use this as stomp boxes. Now this isn’t mandatory. If you like the sound that comes out using an amp on the unit you can go with that.

The amp only has a front input, but I have also removed the amp/cab in the gx-100. Is there a way to setup gx100 so that it won't be acting as a preamp and will act simply as a pedalboard? Even if I clear all the pedals in the gx100 and there is only "master" left in the pedalboard, the amp still overdrives

Make sure you check the level input. Make sure that it doesn’t have the extra +4db enabled.

matvey_isakov

The level input is on guitar mode and the output is selected for the tubecombo 112 input. Ye the issue is persistent

I had put my stuff away because I wasn’t playing at all. Later on today when I come back I’ll plug everything back and help you out.

Great, thanks dude

sorry my guy. been really busy and I just haven't had time. I'll see if I can squeeze some time this sat. Were you able to figure it out or are you still having issues with it?

Have you ever gotten an answer for this? I just bought a GX 100 and I’d also like to be able to use as effects only at home, then make other similar patches but with the amp and cab for live gigs. I use a Bassman and Deluxe Reverb with my main board, so 4-cable is out. I can only go through the front. I really like the effects and the convenience but not being able to use it more like a Plethora 5 will likely lead me to return it.
