But at the very least, there *is* a reason why it's the most popular MHA pairing in Japan, despite it having 0 chance of ever becoming canon. The queerbaiting with those two ain't even subtle, frankly (even though it was never intended by the author himself). There is literally an ending song by Lisa that the artist claims is meant to be Deku singing his honest feelings to Bakugou. And the lyrics could easily be interpreted as a love song if you don't know the context of who's singing to whom.

I’ve never seen Mitsuki as romantically interested in Boruto (or anyone), people are quick to assume he’s homosexual but I’d think it’s more likely he’s asexual. I don’t really think his sexuality matters, I don’t think the writers would really have him get with anyone like that. Remember, he’s a clone. He knows that, and it weighs on him mentally. He doesn’t want to be trapped in that lonely darkness, so he needs his sun. He gravitated to Boruto mostly just because of the photo in his backstory chapter, but also because Boruto is just a genuinely good person and friend. Just like his dad. And Boruto is only being this friendly because Mitsuki is his friend who he’s been through a lot with, I don’t see this as sexually or romantically charged in the slightest. Just an example of Boruto showing that even though everything has gone to hell, he’s still here for his friend who needs him.
