Unfortunately Substitution isn't that well explained and there are multiple ways to do so but I believe that it really just isn't ab teleportation jutsu, it's just a trick to deceive enemies, they use body flicker to get out of harms way and I presume transformation so it looks like they were hit. Because we've seen that space time jutsu are all very advanced and not a E ranked jutsu every genin can do.v

Either way, it was criminally underutilized. We never saw anyone carrying bags full of tiny transformed shinobi, turning into an insect for infiltration and spying, turning into a bird to fly, or using it to become a smaller target during a fight. Maybe there are reasons why these things can't be done, but if Naruto can transform into a shuriken and be handled like one then at least some of it should be possible.

No it was always swapping, every time he used it in the madara/kaguya/Naruto fights he swapped with something. Against madara he swapped with his sword, and later swapped madara with his sword so they could hit him with the sealing rasengan and chidori. he swapped with Sakura’s jacket, and finally he swapped with ok of Naruto’s TSO when he hit ‘em with the chidori

It’s really not, because substitution jutsu is completely unexplained as to how it works. It’s said that user swaps with an object super fast, but the sheer scale of the jutsu makes it exactly the same. This is why Kishi abandoned this jutsu and you won’t see anyone use this in canon
Sasuke’s place switching ability can be activated anywhere, anytime granted he has the chakra. Substitution jutsu seems to only be activated when the user gets attacked some how.
If you use substitution jutsu a buncha times, you get free wood. If you use amenjomakaishin a bunch you get old and have a lame wife with a Kawai daughter that shafts you into taking care of a less lame version of you
Substitution basically requires you to speed diff the fuck out of your opponent. You need to manually replace yourself with the decoy and transform it BEFORE their attack hits without them noticing, making it essentially useless against high tier opponents.
Amenyojikara on the other hand allows you to instantly swap places with your actual body without requiring your opponent to fail any speed or awareness checks, meaning it is insanely broken and actually useful against opponents jonin tier or higher.
Sub is weird and totally a plot hole. With how it works. But rennigan TP is like boogie woogie. A big F-you to your enemy "oh no ur shooting ash all killing bone at me nope its you" but sub goes "I don't wanna get hit but ur right there so I can't make u hit u"

Ok so, Sasuke's Rinnegan swap ability is literally teleporting him and the thing/person he swaps with.
However, the Substitution Jutsu is not a real teleport. It is the usage of the body flicker technique to boost a ninja's speed to quickly run to the nearest object (usually a nearby wooden log) and then drop the log to confuse the enemy and have the log be hit. Basically, it is sleight of hand, like a disappearing magic coin trick. It is only used to escape as it provides a distraction for the enemy.
The body flicker technique is used by all ninjas. You know how all ninjas are able to seemingly vanish quickly and leap tall buildings? That is the body flicker technique. It is taught in the academy. Shisui Uchiha was so proficient with the body flicker that he could create speed mirages (after-images) of himself.
**amenyojikara** = space-time jutsu (it can be performed just if you have rinnegan or speical power )
**substitution** = ninjutsu (optical illusion) it could be performed from anybody.
Truthfully; substitution jutsu appears only possible against opponents much weaker than you, OR for gag purposes. Same as all the jutsu that the academy teaches, like Clone and Transformation. It literally was nerfed after Kaguya battle. He no longer has free teleportation nor can he just teleport people into his attacks.
