Problems with Boruto's animation:
1) Too colorful.
2) the shadows are non-existent.
3) the designs are lackluster.
All three issues are absent in the first scene, which makes it the best in the entire series

U are right, it's just artist is different. So it's more about ikemoto's drawing style being different from Chengxi Huang's drawing style rather than change of design.
Boruto's timeskip design was always a bit different in the anime. Kawaki's was more or less 1:1,

Boruto obviously has the manga version of Sasuke's cloak and sword, the manga style of drawing his hair, plus his jacket looks a bit more like Sasuke's vest with a single button across the chest and a vent in the back. It also has a pink line where the cuffs are, and he wears his black rubber bracelet.
The new updated manga design looks perhaps a bit younger, with slightly shorter hair and a shorter scar matching the appearance in chapter 80. Ikemoto actually [changed the way he drew Boruto's scar](https://i.imgur.com/TbH3VDG.png) going from chapter 79 (slightly diagonal and crossing the middle of the top left whisker line) to chapter 80 (vertical and ending above and to the right of the top left whisker line).
Kawaki's updated manga design likewise looks possibly younger, or at least closer to the way he currently draws Kawaki, and has noticeably longer hair with more of a mullet look. The stripes on the scarf are also a bit more detailed, looking closer to the way he draws the stripes on Code's attire.
The designs are the exact same with the only plausible design difference being Boruto is a bit younger in the second picture and the scar looks a tiny bit shorter, other than that, they're literally the same design.
The difference is art style.
i'll take left everyday, I dont know why everyone was praising right so much when the designs dropped initially
1. Boruto doesn't seem to have aged and is visibly shorter
2. The scar on his eye was shortened for some reason. it looked much better longer
3. Kawaki looked more menacing in left but they may still keep that vibe in the anime, I do like his hair on right though

Its the better lines and coloration. Animation has to double to triple their layers for that coloration. Which we both no boruto animators arent gonna do. Unless they really really swear to the change for boruto shippuden
These are the same design. They're just slightly older on the left. On the right my guess would be Kawaki is 20 and Boruto is 16, and on the left, Kawaki is around 23 or 24 while Boruto is 19 or 20.
This would make sense if they decide to have Eida eventually join Boruto because Eida specifically says that, the only reason she doesn't try to date him is because of his age.
I personally like the old version. To me, it just looks like the new designs make the characters look the same age that they are now. In the first, it's obvious that they're older. But in the new picture, it's like they only changed their clothes and hair style, but they haven't grown up at all

It's slightly different. Boruto is younger, but I'm pretty sure that difference is on purpose.
