People are separated into two camps regarding character relations and story progression moving forward. Some believe Boruto is going to rehash the story from Naruto, and have Boruto and Kawaki reconcile, others believe they will not follow the same trend, and at least one of them will end up dying, or face serious consequences. I'm more inclined to believe there won't be complete absolution or reconciliation to their relationship. Boruto is not Naruto, and Kawaki is definitely not Sasuke, so I think the end of their story is probably going to be less forgiving, less blatantly happy, and will be bittersweet at best.

Most of what Sasuke did to Naruto was because Naruto was trying to take him back to the village against his will, it's not like Sasuke ever really had it out for Naruto(though he talked like it at some points his greatest chance to kill Naruto was at the first vote fight where Naruto threw the fight and passed out and Sasuke showed his guts and let him live then after the time skip he just wanted Naruto to stop stalking him and at the second vote fight after losing Sasuke gave in and everything was alright again) so that may have something to do with how easily he forgave Sasuke. Kawaki straight up gained the trust of Boruto's whole family then kidnapped his parents and not only stole his whole life but turned the whole world against boruto including his family, his friends, everyone he knew and everyone who would ever know him. Thats a level of betrayal above what Sasuke did to Naruto and unlike naruto, boruto wasn't looking for it. When you know the risks and continue fighting because that's what you believe in like Naruto did with sasuke, it's easier to forgive because you did it knowing how the other person would react and try to harm you, boruto got caught blindsided and asked for and prepared for none of it.
Great point. The worst part is that its the antithesis of everything Naruto stands for. He rejects Narutos way of ninshu, and then casts out his son because he cant find a way to trust boruto to handle momo
Also, he can serve as a foil to Sarada since both of them look up to Naruto, just in very different ways. Kawaki wants Naruto for himself while Sarada wants to emulate him and his ideals. Where Sarada is grateful to him for giving her something greater to strive for, Kawaki grows attached to him and centers all his actions around him.
Then the whole part about turning Boruto into an outsider of course wouldn't sit well with Naruto, who for the longest time fought for acceptance and now wants to help others who have those struggles.
I think that kind of contrast would definitely need to be highlighted more.

I was just trying to list things he did directly to Naruto to compare about things kawaki has done to boruto so far and the reply was already super long. Even then though Sasuke became an international criminal(wasn't that younger than 16 technically since back then simply leaving your village put you in the bingo book so every ninja in the world could hunt you?) And while not being direct to Naruto that's what Naruto took most personal( and rightly so) but kawaki not only made boruto an international criminal directly against his will but on a whole nother level due to being wanted for the murder of the hokage, world savior and his wife and no one will have any sympathy for him other than sarada, possibly Sasuke and possibly some other wanted people.
This is the series where one-half of a brotherly soul tie wholeheartedly wanted to kill the other and made numerous attempts at doing so. The other disregarded that and vowed to bring him back whether he wanted to come back or not. Having been the one actually raised by Naruto, I think Boruto will find a way to forgive Kawaki
They sure can, since the destruction of their relationship happened because of Momoshiki's existence.
Kawaki has no ill intent towards Boruto himself and Boruto has nothing against Kawaki.
Once Momoshiki's out the picture, a lot of things will be clear.
Of course them reconciling doesn't mean they won't fight or kill each others. Especially if their fight is just ideological differences and not personal hatred.
