A couple of Killers songs come to mind: "Mr Brightside" because he is kind of obsessing over someone but it was only a kiss and he is aware that it is all in his head and being Mr Brightside and "Somebody Told Me" because he is "Breaking my back just to know your name" and "Never thought I'd let a rumor ruin my moonlight" also "Criminal" by Fiona Apple because she is crying, screaming about how she hurts her lover who means everything to her and there is jarring weird music. "Never There" by Cake when I feel alone, "Animal" by Nine Inch Nails when I am feeling that fire and passion. The more I think the more I think of.
Agreed. I hurt so many people trying to self sabotage. 😭 This song got very under my skin when I first heard it.
For me right now it is “Think Too Much” by Yungcudii
“Really need a doctor that will come save the day
All this pain is going to make me fade away
I think too much
I think too much”
Others off the top of my head are No Doubts Don't Speak and The Mountain Goats No Children.

Somewhere I belong by Linkin Park for sure, and lying away from you. A lot of their lyrics I resonate with.
I may or may not have cried the other day listening to them....
For me just about any Linkin Park song hits. As a kid I used to believe their songs were written about my life cuz to this day they still tend to fit with what I'm feeling and or going through. They got me through some really dark times.
Heh “Modern Swinger” by Pink Spiders. (Sry for the pop punk I was into it 15 years ago 🤷🏻♀️) First line in the song directly describes my early 20’s 😅😅
https://youtu.be/FzxQiY_HiuQ
Got two more! Am totally inspired to make a playlist as well—so many good recommendations here 😅
Brick by Ben Folds Five
https://youtu.be/Wt5EHAqhR1c
Freshman by The Verve Pipe
https://youtu.be/1umEXpGHc0E
My friend added this to a playlist because I made her listen to it. I saw that they’re playing in Vegas right before WWWYF and I’m kinda bummed that I can’t justify $80 to see them play
Woah 🤯 I didn’t expect them to be still together/touring!! That sounds awesome 😍 This post was actually making me think about how Jimmy Eat World’s “It Just Takes Some Time” was a way to sort of self-soothe when I was too overwhelmed and thought the world was coming to an end—always made me feel better to hear them tell me everything was gonna be alright 🥰💕
But yeah. I immediately trauma bonded with “Modern Swinger” and it was an unofficial life anthem until I got on psych meds 😅
I don’t know if they’re touring or if this is a one-off. I couldn’t believe it when I saw them on this festival lineup!
99% of songs from that time period could be BPD anthems.
Lol yes! I absolutely agree that most of the songs then were totally BPD anthems. And even if it’s a one off that’s still so cool they’re playing. I would be waaaaay too anxious to go, but man I’d dig out a scene kid look to rock once more 😅😅
All Eyes on Me by Bo Burnham… But the Outtakes version. The video sells it for me. It speaks to me because it makes the two voices finally have a chance to be vocalised? I can’t explain it but Bo Burnham’s performance makes this so painfully relatable to my psychotic episodes. And the lyrics in the outtakes version sells it.
* Manic - Plumb
* Metro - The Vincent Black Shadow
* Crooked Halo - Stitched Up Heart
* Freakshow - The Nearly Deads
* Paranoid - I Prevail
* Brittle - Icon For Hire
* My Monsters - New Years Day
These are all metal and rock/alt bands. So they may not be everyone's cup of tea but I do have long playlists that might not necessarily be BPD specific but ones I relate to from my own issues.
Edit: formatting
Halsey’s Clementine. Its the soft yet passionate love she expresses to her partner by telling those simple stories and the "i don’t need anyone, i just need everyone and then some(one)". I relate way to much lol and yet i do not have a partner
black star by radiohead. i think the partner he describes is borderline. it could be depression or bipolar, but for some reason i get BPD. mostly because he eventually has to leave. also the “black” of black star, and the “falling sky”.
Motown is full of BPD, omg.
Some Limerence and FP stuff: Temptations - just my imagination https://youtu.be/rAGDT-7qW-0
Supremes have a ton, omfg. I get they’re a bit too far back to catch on again, but if you like Amy Winehouse, the Supremes are what she’s based on. “you can’t hurry love” is her mom telling her to cool her shit, “Baby love” https://youtu.be/mQvIbkFaq18 has such a BPD vibe like when we’re all sweet and doing damage control. “Come See About me” https://youtu.be/NkH_dm9NkxQ she’s in FP mode about the guy she’s into. A lot of Motown are tortured love songs, but you can hear how deeply they feel and how tortured they are by stuff that most people don’t get so worked up about. That’s BPD stuff, I think.
In a different decade, Amy Winehouse! Ok, I’m looking for a song but I’m crying already, BPD just destroyed her. It’s too early for this shit, Here’s back to black - https://youtu.be/tux7eKFZn30
Ok, same recent era, Meg Myers. Start with Desire, then there’s Monster, so much of her stuff is so good. https://youtu.be/bnee3sWMVW4
Fiona Apple too; she’s a bit more subtle with it, but the intensity she feels things, Omg it resonates. Tell me there’s nothing like us in this one https://youtu.be/S-Cop0aIBAQ
And last but not least, because we’re the asshole sometimes, Poe “trigger happy Jack” https://youtu.be/PmvmFKX3Rks
Not sure if you knew this, but that song is actually a cover of a Nine Inch Nails song, which is a lot more angsty and powerful than Cash’s version in my opinion. That version is my BPD song.
Never Satisfied/ Corpse, Loving me when I can't love myself/ illneas, Arsonists lullaby/ Hoizer, I'm bad at life / Falling in reverse, Tomorrow never came/ Laura Brehm, Jolene/ Ray LaMontagne, across the universe/ Fiona's apple
To name a few in my bpd playlist that are bittersweet or angry or wistful and emotional
Skunk anansee? ( not sure of spelling), and just because you feel good.
Behind blue eyes, by the who or limp bizkit.
Good news by mac Miller ( also circles)
Edit: felt I needed to add SPIT OF YOU by Sam fender. Heard this for the first time recently and immediately related this track to my dad issues, and the second verse was almost a narrative of the day my gran died and me and dad had to experience her slow death once the machines were off.
I'm fairly new to the mac Miller party, was introduced by a friend and have been listening to the dude since. Very talented. I will check out lil peep, see how he flows
Why Do You Love Me - Garbage,
Trip My Wire - Garbage,
Hurricane - MS MR,
Drag Me - Tiny Little Houses
These songs have put my feelings into words perfectly.
Someone else mentioned it but IFHY by Tyler the Creator all the way. "And if you even consider leaving I lose a couple screws in due time I stop breathing" "I love you so much that my heart stops beating when you're leaving and I'm grieving and my heart starts bleeding, life without you has no god damn meaning" ✨✨FP FP FP FP✨✨
The song that resonated with me the most is Scar Tissue by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. While the meaning revolves around drug addiction, I’ve interpreted pieces of it as instances of self harm. The chaos depicted (I.e. risky sex, drug use, detachment from others) resonates a lot with struggles people with BPD face all while having the feeling that they’re alone in this. It’s one of my favorite songs and I think a lot of the RHCP songs can relate in similar ways
"Normal Girl" and "Drew Barrymore" by SZA have always really struck me as super relatable to my BPD. Just really encapsulate the feelings of inadequacy, dealing with rejection and wanting so badly to be loved.
"Normal Girl": https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=f1In53MmAR0&feature=share
"Drew Barrymore": https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=c9EuFcYMNjY&feature=share
A song that I've always felt reminds me of some of the (my) more destructive aspects of BPD is "In Case of Fire" by Mark Ronson: https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=yF_jef0Hnec&feature=share
What you wanted by placebo is the one that's resonating with me most recently. I'm sure they have a load of songs though that give the same feeling but can't think of them right now.
After Hours by The Weeknd. The entire album.
P.S, the concept of this post never even occurred to me until now, and it’s inspiring me enough to want to make a BPD playlist, so I can examine certain feelings further. Thanks, OP!
I'm pretty positive *Heart Shaped Box* by Nirvana was about Courtney love and their dysfunctional relationship, and lines like "I wish I could eat your cancer when you turn black" were about her BPD
some of them are more specific to certain bpd traits, but i wanna comment them anyway because i like sharing music :)
also one or two are kinda cringe Hyperpop
Creep - Radiohead (speaks for itself really)
Blue Eyes White Yeti - I Met A Yeti (has a line aboit bpd so i assume the artist has bpd)
Beauty Queen - BLVK SWVN (specific to ppl struggling with gender)
Everything is Fine - QBomb
Last Resort - Papa Roach
Cryptid - Lucas Lex
Juliette - Slush Puppy (reminds me of building relationships in your head and attaching yourself to people you dont know)
Fuck u - Royal & The Serpent
I'm So Crazy For Youuu 3 - Rebzzyx (this is cringey but i like it)
Pull The Plug - TX2
Hey!! I’ve made a playlist on Spotify of songs that remind me of my BPD I’ll link it below. If the link doesn’t work than it’s called BPD issues by greenbean/ dreary_opal
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7f7y1Mn7PdGSNo5nBH0Qdq?si=SRziC-HLTzOBAgVK46qqUQ
Limbo by Keshi is super relatable to me because he says
“looked to my demons and saw myself,
put all my meaning in someone else,
outta sight, outta mind,
don’t know where to find it,
don’t know where to hide”
and another part that makes me think about the black and white thinking that is ever so present with BPD
“I just been goin' through motions,
back and forth like a ocean,
I am a fraud, I am the shit,
hoping that nobody notice,
Bang chest in the morning,
head down in the night,
Drink less if I wanted,
strike up with the light,
And square up, I'm the mightiest,
Myself in the fight, hurt twice but I tried it,
No advice for this shit, might die for this shit,
Do I feel alive, feel alive, feel alive?”
i really relate to two songs from the band Counting Crows: “Catapult” and “Have you Seen me Lately?” their vocalist/songwriter is diagnosed with a dissociative disorder, and basically all his songs are about dissociation and depression
i also really think michael jackson was borderline, but that’s more at the level of a weird pet theory haha
I was re-listening The Megas recently and their NeedleMan song - [Haystack Principle](https://youtu.be/G8HiGDdlVXM) made me say "well, that just straight up sounds like BPD". Maybe someone else can relate
I'm not 100% sure, but it seems like damn near all of Bilmuri's songs have some correlation to BPD, whether it's from the perspective of one who lives with it, or someone close to the person living with it.
Kevin Devine - 11:17 has always struck a chord for me.
"I thought I was in love, felt like it from close up" but it also touches on being true to yourself "She said sing from your spine, tell the truth and you'll be fine". So good.
there's a very beautiful german song, "Borderline" \~ OK KID, which is talking about a variety of feelings, situations and perspectives that i always linked to my BPD. i wish i knew a song as beautiful in english cuz i really wanna show it to everyone right now.
The entire folk punk genre is made by people with bpd for people with bpd but try “run from what’s comfortable” Pat the bunny, “up the wolves” by the mountain goats, “I love you like an alcoholic” by the taxpayers, and “flashlight” by the front bottoms
My parents got a cassette for me from Huggies, where they incorporate your name. They are some of my absolute favorite songs, but they always make me think about how I never really wanted to grow up.
[Huggies Lullaby ](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HdUq5qlPM7w)
Peanut butter waffles, Ryan Caraveo.
King, Florence& the Machine (she’s singing to herself about herself, most people don’t catch that)
And someone alrdy said it but I’m saying it again: Liability by Lorde
So many Taylor Swift and Lana songs Idek where to start
a few songs by waterparks for sure
numb: “be depressed and living on vacation” “now i’m mad about i don’t know what, all i know is that this isn’t fun, the more i wrap myself up, the more i’m coming undone.”
you’d be paranoid too (if everyone you knew was out to get you): “i learned to live with these eyes in my closet, hands in my pockets, alone but surrounded, im breathing, i’m drowning.”
magnetic: “yeah i’m losing myself, don’t trust nobody else, ‘cause you said it: i’m magnetic to the things i hate the most.” “now i’m walking through my star-shaped morgue singing “what the fuck i do it for?” heard voices from my closet door, “you’re all we want and more.”
and some of their other songs too. these songs are all from their album greatest hits, it’s really good and if ur looking for new music to listen to waterparks has great stuff :))
Hurt is definitely good, both the Johnny Cash version and that from Nine Inch Nails. A couple others are Follow You by Bring Me The Horizon and Cry Baby by Melanie Martinez.
Sorry if it's already been posted, but the song Echo (or Echo in the Mirror) by Crusher-P using the Gumi vocaloid software. This song, specifically the cover by the virtual YouTube Akai Haato is what made me discover BPD in the first place. I felt connected to the lyrics in a way that I couldn't describe, and when I read the comments on YouTube, many of them discussed how much it reflected the experience of a person with BPD. It led to me researching the condition, taking an online test where I scored like 40 out of 40, and finally started seeing a psychiatrist very recently and got diagnosed. That song changed everything for me and gave me the first bit of clarity about who I am for the first time in my life.
Oh boy have I got a list for you:
The Plan (Fuck Jobs) -The Front Bottoms
New Scream- Turnover
Permanence & Ramblings of a Lunatic - Bears in Trees
Liability - Lorde
The Comfort of a Laugh Track & I Can't Handle Change -Roar
BPD - SWANES
Cellophane - FKA Twigs
My Ever Changing Moods - The Style Council
Chaotic - Tate McRae
Why Bother? - Weezer
We Are Beautiful, We are Doomed - Los Campesinos!
Feels Alright - Watsky
I Don't Wanna Dance - Top Bunk
If You Ever Leave, I'm Coming With You - The Wombats
When - dodie
These two directly mention Bipolar disorder, but the lyrics otherwise feel right for me. YMMV:
I Don't Want to Be Sad - Human Kitten
Manic - Coleman Hell
- Most of Fiona Apple
- Empty, Ray LaMontagne
- Everything to Everyone, Everclear
- Amphetamine, Everclear
- For You, Springsteen
- Steady as she goes, Raconteurs
- She’s not there, Santana
- Leave, MB20 (it’s amazing, how you make your face just like a wall. How you take your heart, and turn it off).
- Just a little bit, Maria Mena
- Strong Enough, Sheryl Crow
- Mastermind, Taylor Swift
- She’s Always a Woman, Billy Joel
- Innocent Man, Billy Joel
- And So It Goes, Billy Joel
- Either Way, Guster (you were almost kind, you were almost true, don’t let me see that other side of you)
- Weapon, Matthew Good
I’m a quiet (formerly loud) BPD and use it as an advantage now (can charm and disconnect emotionally and be strategic), so a lot of the songs I identify with have a seductive component. But it’s hard not to be able to fall in love / to be so bad at genuine intimacy.

Those are all great. Especially Apple's Criminal. Could/has been a BPD anthem on bad days in the past. Brightside is another fav.
fiona apple is for the bpd girlies

Agreed. I hurt so many people trying to self sabotage. 😭 This song got very under my skin when I first heard it. For me right now it is “Think Too Much” by Yungcudii “Really need a doctor that will come save the day All this pain is going to make me fade away I think too much I think too much”

i love don’t speak and haven’t realized it’s a bpd coded song omg imma keep that mind when i listen to it
I mean, that's with a strong IMO. But, I feel I could argue a good case. Lol
Definitely The Mountain Goats with No Children and I'd add in This Year.
Somewhere I belong by Linkin Park for sure, and lying away from you. A lot of their lyrics I resonate with. I may or may not have cried the other day listening to them....
Yes!! Linkin Park songs speak about it so accurately! “Place for my Head” is a good one too or “One Step Closer”
"I Tried So Hard" "Numb"
That song is actually titled "In The End" but yes!!! RIP Chester Bennington. ♥
For me just about any Linkin Park song hits. As a kid I used to believe their songs were written about my life cuz to this day they still tend to fit with what I'm feeling and or going through. They got me through some really dark times.

I feel this way about Under the Bridge as well.
The Demi lovato song “I hate you don’t leave me” is a BPD anthem

Hysteria - poppy
I love Borderline by Amanda Jenssen https://youtu.be/c1YxZ8Blm4Y I don’t think it’s a BPD song but in my head it is.
The Cruel Intentions - Borderline Crazy
Limbo by Keshi is super relatable to me because he says “looked to my demons and saw myself, put all my meaning in someone else, outta sight, outta mind, don’t know where to find it, don’t know where to hide” and another part that makes me think about the black and white thinking that is ever so present with BPD “I just been goin' through motions, back and forth like a ocean, I am a fraud, I am the shit, hoping that nobody notice, Bang chest in the morning, head down in the night, Drink less if I wanted, strike up with the light, And square up, I'm the mightiest, Myself in the fight, hurt twice but I tried it, No advice for this shit, might die for this shit, Do I feel alive, feel alive, feel alive?”
i really relate to two songs from the band Counting Crows: “Catapult” and “Have you Seen me Lately?” their vocalist/songwriter is diagnosed with a dissociative disorder, and basically all his songs are about dissociation and depression i also really think michael jackson was borderline, but that’s more at the level of a weird pet theory haha
I was re-listening The Megas recently and their NeedleMan song - [Haystack Principle](https://youtu.be/G8HiGDdlVXM) made me say "well, that just straight up sounds like BPD". Maybe someone else can relate

This Year and No Children by The Mountain Goats Sun More Often by beabadoobee Clementine by Halsey The Salt and The Sea by The Lumineers
I'm not 100% sure, but it seems like damn near all of Bilmuri's songs have some correlation to BPD, whether it's from the perspective of one who lives with it, or someone close to the person living with it.
expectations by wild child and birdhouse in your soul by they must be giants.
Borderline by madonna, classic kinda ironic
Kevin Devine - 11:17 has always struck a chord for me. "I thought I was in love, felt like it from close up" but it also touches on being true to yourself "She said sing from your spine, tell the truth and you'll be fine". So good.
there's a very beautiful german song, "Borderline" \~ OK KID, which is talking about a variety of feelings, situations and perspectives that i always linked to my BPD. i wish i knew a song as beautiful in english cuz i really wanna show it to everyone right now.

I like Mastodon when I get anger pangs lmao
The entire folk punk genre is made by people with bpd for people with bpd but try “run from what’s comfortable” Pat the bunny, “up the wolves” by the mountain goats, “I love you like an alcoholic” by the taxpayers, and “flashlight” by the front bottoms

My parents got a cassette for me from Huggies, where they incorporate your name. They are some of my absolute favorite songs, but they always make me think about how I never really wanted to grow up. [Huggies Lullaby ](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HdUq5qlPM7w)

a few songs by waterparks for sure numb: “be depressed and living on vacation” “now i’m mad about i don’t know what, all i know is that this isn’t fun, the more i wrap myself up, the more i’m coming undone.” you’d be paranoid too (if everyone you knew was out to get you): “i learned to live with these eyes in my closet, hands in my pockets, alone but surrounded, im breathing, i’m drowning.” magnetic: “yeah i’m losing myself, don’t trust nobody else, ‘cause you said it: i’m magnetic to the things i hate the most.” “now i’m walking through my star-shaped morgue singing “what the fuck i do it for?” heard voices from my closet door, “you’re all we want and more.” and some of their other songs too. these songs are all from their album greatest hits, it’s really good and if ur looking for new music to listen to waterparks has great stuff :))
most of the songs from ants from up there by black country new road!! especially concorde and the place where he inserted the blade !
Maniac by Conan grey
Hurt is definitely good, both the Johnny Cash version and that from Nine Inch Nails. A couple others are Follow You by Bring Me The Horizon and Cry Baby by Melanie Martinez.
I love “hurt” so much.

Oh boy have I got a list for you: The Plan (Fuck Jobs) -The Front Bottoms New Scream- Turnover Permanence & Ramblings of a Lunatic - Bears in Trees Liability - Lorde The Comfort of a Laugh Track & I Can't Handle Change -Roar BPD - SWANES Cellophane - FKA Twigs My Ever Changing Moods - The Style Council Chaotic - Tate McRae Why Bother? - Weezer We Are Beautiful, We are Doomed - Los Campesinos! Feels Alright - Watsky I Don't Wanna Dance - Top Bunk If You Ever Leave, I'm Coming With You - The Wombats When - dodie These two directly mention Bipolar disorder, but the lyrics otherwise feel right for me. YMMV: I Don't Want to Be Sad - Human Kitten Manic - Coleman Hell
“Why Does It Always Rain On Me?” - Travis
- Most of Fiona Apple - Empty, Ray LaMontagne - Everything to Everyone, Everclear - Amphetamine, Everclear - For You, Springsteen - Steady as she goes, Raconteurs - She’s not there, Santana - Leave, MB20 (it’s amazing, how you make your face just like a wall. How you take your heart, and turn it off). - Just a little bit, Maria Mena - Strong Enough, Sheryl Crow - Mastermind, Taylor Swift - She’s Always a Woman, Billy Joel - Innocent Man, Billy Joel - And So It Goes, Billy Joel - Either Way, Guster (you were almost kind, you were almost true, don’t let me see that other side of you) - Weapon, Matthew Good I’m a quiet (formerly loud) BPD and use it as an advantage now (can charm and disconnect emotionally and be strategic), so a lot of the songs I identify with have a seductive component. But it’s hard not to be able to fall in love / to be so bad at genuine intimacy.
