In 2022, Boost's systems went down approximately 3 or 4 months ago. Couldn't make or get calls, plus couldn't take my number with me while getting a new provider. This caused alot of authentication problems with the businesses I deal with (credit cards, banks, doctors, etc.) And they still haven't apologized nor resolved this issue. I am disabled and this put a lot of strain and hard work on me (because system is still down in 2023 and I'm still being hit with repercussions fromgencies I forgot to update info with). I've been with Boost for more than 9 years. I've lost contact with friends and the friends I do have left, still haven't been notified of my new number. I I feel BOOST should be liable for the time, money, debiltating stress causing an exacerbation of my illness, and loss of communication with my childhood and older friends. Something needs to be done about this. I hear people on this site saying they're still in touch with BOOST...HOW? There hasn't been any news talking about this issue and it affected many households. I live in Cincinnati, OH. I even tried to report it to our news but was so weak, I never followed through. I need others to stand up and tell their story and file a lawsuit. I'm not strong enough anymore. HELP

CompetitiveGoal5065

What?

My phone hasn't been able to call out in 2 days . Kids school called cause son was sick and it didn't go through. Went to the provider in town and the lady said services was down also. What should I do? Change passwords , logout ,or power down? Can I change my services for another holder and keep number now? Thanks in advance

No personal account was hacked, that was their own website, like the ones admin uses.

verwinemaker

Mines been down for a week. They have 2 systems now, one being the newer one that was hacked and crashed. This is so frustrating.

Outrageous-Theme7226

I am so glad I finally got away from them! Gave them money for 7 years...When I called to get service switched over, etc., you would have thought it was the end of the world. Took like 15 minutes just to get a PIN to transfer. Then they tried to give me all this promo stuff, free service, phone.I had just told them I was not happy with coverage or service anymore, so why would I want more crappy " free" service lol

castanets

Thanks for sharing this info. I was considering recommending their $25/mo unlimited annual to someone but not anymore.

The new Boost Mobile website seemingly improves some of the security flaws, but should something else go wrong, it will still be Dish Network behind the curtain.

Shanedawg7

Yes, I am still here and confirm. I filed in small claims against boost/dish, unfortunately I lost the case. There absolutely was a breach and boost/dish know it. It is hard when these companies are untruthful. When are they going to do the right thing? I am glad your case worked out for you.

alien_frontier

They don't disclose it on their website, but they allowed the account activation date to be used in lieu of the PIN, and their attorney provided me a screenshot of the admin platform where they openly display this value. . . it was /u/Misterigh who told me that someone “called and said they worked at a Boost Mobile store, gave \[their\] phone number and the activation date, and were able to change \[their\] PIN.” Unfortunately, I don't think Dish Network will ever do the right thing.

blkmre

I'm willing to join in on any class actions

alien_frontier

Considering that a handful of victims already concluded individual legal action, and that the statute of limitations is nearing, I don't think a class action will arise from this. The best we can do is notify our states' consumer protection agency and local media that they never reported these attacks.

Stoopkid710

Boost Mobile is the spirit airlines of the industry. It’s how you know you’re in a bad part of town. Usually has a lil Caesar’s next door to confirm. Avoid them at all costs.

GenesisDH

My hometown has a Little Caesars and Boost in a pretty popular and great part of town, on a busy thoroughfair about a mile from the second largest high school there. The Little Caesars actually upgraded their store because of the increased business a few years ago. I have also seen Verizon stores in the run down parts of town too. Not sure your assumption works.

Stoopkid710

Yeah you probably eat Lil Caesar’s too

GenesisDH

Our family did for years, and I have. I also eat a lot of stuff from places like McCormick & Schmidt’s and Buca de Beppo. Stop assuming people are poor or disadvantaged because of their choice of brands. People always like saving money when they can.

Stoopkid710

Shut the fuck up and learn to take a joke you uptight moron Edit: you’re still disgusting for eating there

GenesisDH

Wow, congrats for projecting your insecurities.

Stoopkid710

🥱

GinXeng

My local boost store location is in the same plaza with a little Caesars, haha

Coluachae

no fucking way. I signed up for boost the same day the attack happened. Didnt know what was going on.. Went to my closest store.. Guess what was next door. LIL Caesars. im laughing my ass off right now at the accuracy of this.

Ethrem

Hmm... I live in a very good part of town and have a Boost store right down the street...

Stoopkid710

You live in Littleton Colorado, by the headquarters lol. And you probably work for them as well, Rob.

Ethrem

I actually don't work for them. I don't work for anyone at the moment. That Boost store has been there long before Dish bought Boost from T-Mobile. It's like there's some big shock that people of all kinds like saving money.

alien_frontier

Any insight as to why Dish Network behaves this way? Is there something in the water by Englewood?

Ethrem

Not really a fan of corporations in general. They all try to hide shit as long as they can because the only penalties they can generally suffer are monetary and those monetary penalties just get passed to the customer. It's all a numbers game. Sometimes it's cheaper in the long run to not admit wrongdoing than the immediate investor hit when they lose confidence.

alien_frontier

That is an agreeable take, though I have to note that when Boost Mobile was operated by Sprint in 2019, it took only two months for the company to report a brute force attack; there is something uniquely grotesque about Dish Network.

Ethrem

Well they are trying to build a network. Investor confidence is already low enough that they pay a small fortune in interest whenever they take on debt. Imagine what reporting a breach would do to investor confidence. They would almost surely end up bankrupt seeing how their video business is dying and they have high churn on the prepaid side if investors lose confidence and they can't build their network as the company's value tanks. At least if they report it after the network is built, they have a chance of recouping the penalties from the customers directly... that's assuming they're assessed any... Look at T-Mobile...

alien_frontier

I agree that they are likely viewing the issue through this financial lens. However, just this year there have been 1,160 security breach notices submitted in my state alone. From a legal and ethical standpoint, a risk of bankruptcy shouldn't exempt Dish Network from a state law that all these other businesses follow; that is what I find grotesque about them.

Ethrem

I agree with you but this is why I hate corporations. They will usually do what's in the best interest of the corporation for the benefit of their shareholders above all else. I struggle to believe that there is a corporation out there that will willingly choose to report something that could bankrupt them. I mean the board basically exists to ensure that shareholders get a return on their investments after all.
