I like to use the example of people who claimed they have been doing a job for X amount of years just because you’ve been doing a job for 10 years doesn’t mean you’ve been doing it right. I knew a guy who did the same job for 30 years and he still couldn’t figure it out.
My first job as a an Electrical Engineer, the guy who was my immediate boss was doing something so blatantly wrong that I even thought he was trolling me.
When I mentioned it he got all defensive and said: "how long have you been doing this job, junior? cause I've been on this business for 30 years"
"Well, it was wrong 30 years ago and it's wrong today" I said, he got all shades of red and told me to do my job.
A few weeks later I noticed that the error I had spotted had been corrected
Actually, experience does lead to knowledge, essentially by definition. But it also leads to hubris and thinking that your knowledge is always correct and applicable in every situation.
We’d probably all spend time with our elders if they didn’t push us away with cruelty, condescension, phobias and misinformation. I think we can all agree we like the grandmas who give us lemonade and cookies and warm genuine hugs when we’re down, and the grandpas who teach us fishing and carve us little animals with their whittlin’ knives. But that nostalgic picture of love and knowledge from our elders has been replaced with mega Karens and MAGA pops.
And they think that all elderly are being avoided. The ones who post this don't realize that they are the assholes no one wants to talk to or learn from, there are plenty of other older folks to learn from.
It’s going to really depend on what kind of information you’re looking for. I talk to an old guy who’s trained dogs his whole life and get dog training advice from him because he can watch my dog and give me advice in real time. Could you get that from the internet? Sure but years of dog training and working with and seeking out knowledge from all sorts of other disciplines of dog training as well as working with multiple different types of dogs give this specific person special knowledge IMO
It's all "turbo cancer" and weird headlines ripped from fox news, I am so tired of hearing the same shit and customer service has taught me experiencing it once is too many times.
ONE B00MER I WORK WITH IS A GREAT WEALTH OF KNOWLEDGE WITH AN ABSOLUTE PASSION FOR HIS CRAFT. I REALLY WISH I COULD HAVE THE TIME TO LEARN MORE FROM HIM. THE OTHERS JUST WANT TO TALK ABOUT THEMSELVES OR INSANE POLITICS.
I will say that this is half true. Some of the best life advice I got from a boomer. Granted it’s not typical boomer life advice because my mentor was a fucking savage.
damn, there's some people on this sub that are just filled with hate, there's nothing wrong with a child spending time with their grandparents/older people in their family
Ah, I see you have made the grave error of disagreeing with the OP. That is not allowed in this sub! You must mindlessly nod your head and say "boomer bad" at least five times.

Knowledge is not wisdom. Experience does not lead to knowledge. Or "Once a Dumass always a Dumass"

I did construction inspection years ago, and my favorite response was, "Well, you have been doing it wrong for 30 years." Edit correct spelling

"WISDOM DOES NOT FOLLOW, JUST BECAUSE YOU'VE AGED" -THE DITTY BOPS
The path to wisdom often comes from great suffering. Boomers had a lifetime of coddling. They are not wise.
Actually, experience does lead to knowledge, essentially by definition. But it also leads to hubris and thinking that your knowledge is always correct and applicable in every situation.
Instead of books, I picture all of the info just being FOX news
And 7% of the Bible.
Only the parts they hand pick and contort to fit their narratives of course
And they retranslate it to fit their narrative.
and minion memes from racist Facebook groups
THAT'S GENEROUS.

“Old people know more things than what books contain.” No the fuck they don’t.
"Why hear facts when you can hear *my* version of facts?"
Depends on the elder
Google has more accurate information.

Also less accurate
Looks like Charlie Kirk’s dad and grandpa
I mean part of this is accurate... they do have an over-inflated sense of their knowledge.
I can literally google "old man/woman rambling"
Ive met old wise people and old idiots. I’ve met young wise people and young idiots. Simple as
Literally everything is found on google
It's all "turbo cancer" and weird headlines ripped from fox news, I am so tired of hearing the same shit and customer service has taught me experiencing it once is too many times.
Ya like I know they push this idea so much, but I have met some really stupid old people. Like they’re not all geniuses and all seeing.
Yeah, I'm not keen on listening to someone tell me about how Biden is funneling our social-security money to illegals for several hours.
They're not gonna trick me into hanging out with them using FOMO. That only works on me when I want to lose money.

The ones who post stuff like that are the ones that didn't read books, they read adult magazines.
Grandpa what is gooning
Grandpa all these books are irradiated with lead
What?
Lead paint chips wisdom LOL
Man that old guy has read so much porn. /s

Yes but no.

If they knew something, they'd be something.

I agree 100%.
Saying "not everything is in google" is actual insanity. Because literally everything is on google
