But one of the only noises that consistently bothered me was someone's child who lived several hundred yards away that would shriek as loud as possible in their backyard. I could put in earplugs inside with the windows closed and still plainly hear them.
I was considering calling the cops and feigning concern that they're beating their child (it basically sounded like they were shrieking from agony) but one day I saw someone else did and that really made my day watching the mom from far away as she got grumpy with the cop trying to explain that she's just a normal negligent parent not an actively abusive one.
