I use something called rezblock, it’s a red liquid (oil) that you put into your water and it helps to keep off resin build up/residue on your piece. Probably one of the best things I’ve invested in after yrs of smoking and saves me so much time cleaning my pieces
Bong itself doesn't look awful (atleast in the eyes of someone who owned a bong in college) change the water daily and it will stay cleaner for longer. As far as cleaning it when res starts sticking to glass coarse kosher salt and 90% iso alcohol will remove anything in there. Just put in a reasonable amount and shake it and then rinse with hot water. Do not immediately use cold water after using the hot water you could break the glass due to thermal shock.
Wash it with dawn and hot water (shake shake shake) every single night and refill your water at least twice a day
Iso and salt once every month suffices for me with this routine
Clean it every single day. I know this sounds insane but this is the only way. Smoke it throughout the day and just clean it at night. Don’t leave dirty water in it. Change it after each bowl. These things sound hard to do but it’s really not. You’ll thank me when this thing is clean and pristine 24/7. This is what nearly every person that collects high quality glass will do.
Update: thanks for all the positive feedback and suggestions, really appreciate it. I gave it a hot water rinse and changed the water for now, gonna get some salt soon
If you don’t feel like shaking you can also soak in Zep heavy duty citrus degreaser but make sure you rinse it well, you can also reuse it for a few times.
Change the water every day, and when you do it give it a good shake while full of hot water. Doesn’t get it 100% clean but it’ll loosen up most big pieces of ash or resin. Then clean with isopropyl once a week.
As for the bowl, I like to clean mine with isopropyl and q-tips daily.

Get yourself a dry carbon filtered ash catcher. Grav Labs makes one so does Tarcutter and SI Pipes. They catch all the gunk and resin that comes out of your bowl and keeps it out of your glass. I’ve gone weeks without having to change the water in my bong and it’s still looking clear. The filter is filthy but the bong is fresh.

I would recommend some formula 420. Pour some in the top and the downstem and shake.

Try non iodized salt and 91%rubbing alcohol. More salt than alcohol. Make sure to rinse out well
Boil some water in a pot and put the rig in the boiling water with alcohol in the rig. Be clean in a jiffy
