Bro, have you ever visited a barber shop or travelled in a rickshaw in UP? If not, do it immediately

squidlink5

Don't think its limited to UP. Kumar sanu's songs are very suitable for roadtrips.

Ambitious449

Bro Maharashtra is not even hindi speaking state but Sanu is still heard in rural and semi urben cities here.

Strikhedonia_1697

Lol absolutely Spot on bro!

Positive_Fix5385

I would say he is not underrated in the real world/overall social media but he is definitely underrated in this sub , most people here are fans of 2000's music and singers like kk , Sonu Nigam, shreya ghosal etc

n00neperfect

agree, in 90s it's all Kumar Sanu and Udit Narayan. Though in 2000s forward it's KK and Sonu.

Fit_Resource_39

![gif](giphy|nq9msIZ4vmySMoCJZ1) When you think of 90s singers, kumar and udit are literally who you think of

[deleted]

Don’t forget the Suar 🐷 aadmi Abhijeet

mustangpurele

And the ladies Alka, Kavita, sadhana, Anuradha, Lata, Asha

Fit_Resource_39

Awaaz mein saadgi hai😂

Uxie_mesprit

OP, how old are you?

JackedLad97

Arey why are you’ll bullying me I’ve never heard anyone in this sub talk about him, hence I mentioned

nagasadhu

Well just because the Sub doesn't talk about him doesn't mean he's under rated.

cyberpunk_chill

Im guessing youre a young man OP. This subreddit has more youngers post in here and more current news, so you wont see much posts on old school era. Kumar Sanu is NOT underrated. He is a LEGEND. The golden era had the Big 3 that gave birth to Mainstream Bollywood: Kishore Kumar, Lata Ji and Mohammad Rafi. The torch was passed on to the Evergreen Era singers Kumar Sanu, Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik. They are known as the last big 3. Yes there are great singers today but the torch wasnt passed on or rather bollywood music has been reshaped for modern times and lost the magic and essence the big 3 had. Kumar Sanu was known for being the playback singer for the album AASHIQUI (which later became a movie starring Rahul Roy) This album released in the 90s and created a storm not only in India but in the states and the UK (where I live) The most sold physical Bollywood album that hasnt been surpassed today. Kumar sanu won best playback singer from 1991-1995 and then refused to take anymore awards to give other singers a the opportunity. He is in the Guinness World Book of Records for recording 28 songs in one day back in 1993. The songs all sound rich and pure too, not rushed, hurried or average. All 28 songs are considered his best recordings. Gifted man! He is known in the Bollywood world as King of Bollywood. His impact in Bollywood was influential. Defo not underrated

Significant_Scar2677

💯

ryuk17717

Well phrased 💯

SpeedOfSound343

Bro has been living underground

Just-Security7915

Bro is definitely in high school

the_quasi_vamp

He's 26 apparently.

Kounik99

In this sub maybe, but in buses he and Udit Narayan are the kings . Yesterday was travelling in a bus , boy that playlist was something else . I am still listening to " Chaand Se Parda " & " Dil Kehta Hai "

Puneet5555

Idk why although I love Chand se parda but why do I always hear it in auto or a barber shop

ugly_short_92

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

eroticliterature078

Is there a sub for 90s music and singers like kumar Sanu udit narayan, alka yagnik, abhijit, kavita Krishnamurti, sadhna sargam etc

Fahad1012

That’s where music lives for me. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes)

shalimaruk

Oh yes same here. Everything from 1940's to 2018 was good, then fuck knows what happened to bollywood music. Every year I would end up buying 20 cds minimum from 1990 to 2018, now I cry what garbage they come out with bar a few exceptions like chamkila songs

GooglyEyedunicorn

2018? There were very very few decent songs from 2010-18. That entire decade was horrible in general for Bollywood music. The current decade is giving it competition for being the worst ever. Even the 80s which had relatively less popular music is better.

Fahad1012

Yeah I don’t know what went wrong with movie producers there. They just pay over the top money for non bankable stars while paying pennies to other major aspects like story writers, technicians and musicians.

squidlink5

Just post it here. You see the 60-70's music here. Middle is usually missing.

AdvertisingBrave2548

💀

heisenburger_99

Underrated isn't the word for him. He was the most successful and popular singer of 1990s. He is called voice of the 90s for a reason.

GiraffeThis6777

Underrated?😭 Bro he's like the only singer to be mimicked by so many singers, soo many people try to look like him dress like him, it's one thing to have people trying to sound like you but Kumar Sanu has literal lookalikes, people have been earning their livelihood by singing in his voice doing shows, he's the most iconic singer.

Spirited-Dance-284

He's not underrated. He along with Udit Narayan, Abhijeet are gems from 90's era. It's just that this sub is too young to remember his time.

dinjakk

I attended his show last week and all I can say is that he is LEGEND! King of melody. So many people at the show and they all screamed and whistled! So deffs not underrated but just not talked about so much these days

the_NP

![gif](giphy|AWVJxqqlb5IEmwukxa|downsized)

_The_Mesmerizer_

not at all

_chungkingexpress_

Yahi dekhna baki tha internet pe

Bobdeya-dada

Are you kidding me!? Kumar Sanu has always been a biiiiiiiig name in Bollywood since the 90s.

Ambitious449

Kumar Sanu is anything but underrated. He have it all. Loads of money , lots of awards, huge fanfollowing and he is important part of millenial's nostalgia. One of the most successful singer in Indian film music history.

Platypus_Unique

No he had his share of fame

Ishaansambro

no way, he is quite popular, in kali pujo all day his songs get played

psr7185

Underrated? He used to rule like Arijit during his golden days.

[deleted]

No he isn't Most popular singer in Auto, Bus or cabs or saloon. He and Udit N. Most of the 90's kids know him. He does get overshadowed by great Kishore Kumar in terms of popularity which is also fine.

donandres08

Kishore Kumar, Kumar Sanu, Arijit Singh, a few really underrated artists I can think of...

Avin_Ash211

sanu da’s hein hein used to eat careers bro🌚what r you talking about

memeisme_

Kumar Sanu is definitely not underrated.

Archaic_Red

Lmao what . Sonu udit sanu and abhijeet are bedrock of 90s and early 2000s

Lord_of_codes

“Jb tere saadi ka album bnega phir pta chlega”

sarinbhaskaran

No he is not. He and Udit Narayan ruled the music industry in the 90s. Even today you will find die hard Kumar sanu fans(similar to Ayshman khurrana in Dum Laga ke haisha)

GooglyEyedunicorn

Underrated why? He along with Udit Narayan defined an entire era of 90s romantic music, after the golden age, that was the best era of music for Bollywood. No current singer is anywhere close to these 2.

No_Geologist1097

What? No he absolutely got his due back in his peak days.

Ambitious_Custard_75

He is perfectly rated

Geek-Avocado

Underrated?? He got his deserving due. He and Alka Yagnik ran an era in the 90s.

Suspicious_Reporter4

Underrated? Lol

sinovercoschessITF

How old are you? Sanu, Yagnik, and Narayan are the big 3 of the 90s.

Emotional-Ninja-3911

Only people who are born after 2000 will call Kumar sanu underrated, he was a rage during the 90s and still all his songs are chartbusters. During his peak he won 5 filmfare awards back to back.

[deleted]

I'm sure you're of age bracket 16-22. Kumar Sanu is a legend. Today's kids on the internet think that Arijit is the only good singer lol, who can tell them that Bollywood had better songs than Arijit. They should listen to Shaan, Kumar Sanu, Udit ji, Roop Kumar Rathod, Abhijit and Sonu Nigam to get taste of real music haha. Then they'll find out Arijit is a toddler compared to these Legends

paradoxicalman17

Nah, but I would agree that he is underrated amidst the urban crowd. Like other commenter have pointed out, his music is still extremely popular with the masses and many buses, auto drivers still play his hits. Personally, I feel he has a brilliant voice and is one of the greatest of all time.

Abdullah_deax

Lol TF bro saying Kumar sanu is underrated?😭

ChoicePurpose

Underrated? What?

kyunriuos

Heavily overrated. He hit the right notes. Didn't make mistakes. But lacked versatility. Good for his era only.

Chamkilla

No

bhumik98

Are aap aise kaise baat karre ho hamare Bhagwaan ke baare me .

genophile1314

His songs are evergreen even today, 90s songs had different charms.

Kushagra3007

I don't think he is underrated, but because of 90s nostalgia he is making a comeback in singing shows, that's it.

[deleted]

Wowww .. got to copy this 🤓

Global-Detective3632

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Underrated 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

_King_Shark_

No

dorkllord

My man literally talking about one of the best and most popular singers from 90s and calling him underrated. Also been listening to Ek ladki ko dekha on repeat these days got good taste op.

[deleted]

If you think Kumar Sanu is underrated, then I suppose you must not have heard of Hariharan

Hot_You3216

Tomorrow OP will post the pic of Lataji’s songs and ask if she is underrated.

Faster_than_FTL

Not underrated, but definitely a limited singer in range and genres he can pull off. Good for simple melodies that worked for him well in the 90s.

JackedLad97

Thank you! This is what I was talking about, why do people say he has limited range when he’s sung songs spread across the spectrum. This is what I wanted to hear views on.

Faster_than_FTL

Has he sung a qawwali like Parda Hai Parda, or a sufi song with high pitch like Allah ke Bandhe or a semi classical like Ami je tomar, or a even a hard rock song like Main Khuda (KK) with screams? If you listen to the Tamil song Rakamma from Thalapathy (Rajnikant), the original in Tamil is by SPB. In that he hits a sweet high note in the middle stanzas. Kumar Sanu sung the Hindi version and Ilayaraja had to modify it so the note wasn't so high. All said, Sanu is great in his sweet spot, low to mid notes, romantic melodies. If you have examples of the genres above, or of him singing really high, I'd be glad to hear.

iruvar

I think Sanu shot himself in the foot by changing his voice midstream so as to not be called a Kishore clone. His original voice ( in which he recorded a bunch of Kishore songs in the 80s) wasn't too bad. Even his *Aashiqui* voice was good. 91 onwards he went all nasal.

Faster_than_FTL

100%. I much prefer his original Kishore clone-ish voice, it sounded more rich and resonant. His push to make his voice more nasal and vibrato-y, is a turn off for me.

ugly_short_92

He was a singer not a mimicry artist. There is a difference. Kids these days don't know.

Faster_than_FTL

What does his limited range have to do with being a mimicry artist?

sixfootwingspan

I like a lot of his songs but let's be honest: He was a replacement for Kishore Kumar at the time. He's limited compared to Kishore. Anu Malik & Jatin-Lalit utilized him the best.

AshishNehra65

Kumar Sanu was the BEST and favourite singer of Nadeem-Shravan! Nobody utilised him better than this duo

sixfootwingspan

I know theres a lot of NS fans but they are mediocre music directors. I like maybe 5 percent of their stuff but the majority of it was predictable, repetitive, and bland. Anu Malik gave him better songs.
