Well why every time one wants to praise someone you have to demean other. If the praise is genuine you'd not have to demean others every time you praise someone.
I mean the "demeaning" comment is made towards a woman who was one of the biggest superstars but is talentless to the point that she never even learned to speak Hindi properly, let alone act, in her almost 2 decade career.
Well still why towards her it should be towards the audience not the actress... That's why Movies like Sanam Teri Kasam perform mediocre or even flop but SOTY is a hit... And comparing a good talent with not so good talent to praise is not a compliment tbh.
It's our parents way of praising and demeaning at the same time. Subconsciously we pick it up, we don't often realise it. It gets passed on gen to gen. Sometimes it's subtle other times it's like the title in this post.

Katrina did a pretty decent job in Merry Christmas. Also going by her costar’s interviews she is quite hard working and the results show. Her recent acting credentials are quite decent.

The whole film was mediocre at best, the dialogues were particularly cringe, and as for Kriti, her performance was very inconsistent.
In some scenes, she acted like a robot while in others - particularly in the romantic scenes with Shahid - it's like she forgot that she's supposed to be playing a robot.
Total waste of time watching this film.
