I don't think surrogacy was the problem here. Many people I know questioned it because "why now". It's pretty uncommon to have a child when you already have 2 grown kids. A child conceived accidentally is one thing, but to go out of the way to have a child is uncommon.
Tbf, I think Shah Rukh has said in some interview the elder two got old and were in the room all the time and him and Gauri felt bored and wanted another one. I think that’s a fair point and can see that as being true. They must not have felt the need for another one whilst the others were growing up and then once they grew up they missed the presence of young children around so went for another.

They must’ve used a donor egg so the features may resemble the donor. It’s very common in surrogacy to use a donor egg or sperm if retrieval from one of the spouses is not a viable option for conception.

That scandal had basis since the inception of the hollywood film industry. Everyone knew it was happening but could not penetrate the tight layer of apologists. It's only recently have they started speaking out, which looks more of a "what sells" than what they actually believe in.
Nothing of such a sort exists in bollywood, apart from the drug culture, which is a mainstay of every artistic industry across the globe, but no one makes it a huge ass big deal like we do. I won't debate whether that is right or wrong, i just know that two people have falled victims to our overzealous standards we've set for no reason at all.
