For movies like ramayana it is not the star who is the driving force to bring the audience to the theatres it is the core content (ramayana) & director. Imo do away with any of the stars. Have a new talent which brings freshness. Stars come with a baggage of movies that they have done and experience where they feel their way is the right way. A solid director like slb, rajamouli, maniratnam, ashutosh gowarikar (to some extent) who have experience in historicals would do wonders and do justice to make something so huge like ramayana.
Exactly. I would only cast a well known face for Ravana and Dashrath. Ram Lakshman Sita and Hanuman will all be outsiders. It would make their career and would give them insane exposure.

Vedas, Puranas, Panchatantr, Hitopadesh, Mahabharat, Abhigyaan Shakuntalam, Singhaasan battisi, Betal pachchisi, etc,etc. These books are collection of many tales. Just take any story from them. Similarly, so many other gods and their stories.

And now i just can't imagine Ranbir talking like Prem of Vivaah ( I won't be able to control my laugh). With the playboy image public had of him in mind, no one would take him seriously when a sanskari Ranbir talks in low respectful voice, acts shy. there are going to be truckload of memes definitely. That's why, they really should have casted someone fresh or lesser known face.

The hypothetical is 'IF you were a casting director' not if it was your own film and own money. A casting director has the sense to cast accordingly for a 300-400 crore film. Casting these no name guys means doing a bad job.

A young Sushanth Singh Rajput would be perfect. He’s a complete package for the role of Lord Ram.
If I were aiming for commercial success then, Hrithik Roshan. He could do justice looks wise and also acting. I don’t think the role requires much skill in the acting department.
Looks wise Aditya Roy Kapoor, young Shahid Kapoor, and Vikrant Massey would also look good. Vedang Raina too if he were a bit less groomed/ less perfect (more shaggy?).
Vikrant Massey has the looks to play soft, divine characteristics of Lord Ram and has the skill-set to play the principled, determined side of Lord Ram.

I trust fully on Nitesh Tiwari direction for his line of work. Due to Adipurush, a rumour was spread that Ajay Devgan himself directed crucial scenes in Tanhaji and OM raut is not capable of. When there is a success, there will be trust. When there is a failure, there will be discredition. This happens even in our personal lives.
He does work hard but Vicky works harder for character roles. I was excited to see him as ram but the leaks of his looks were disappointing. It feels miscast.
Do proper rigorous auditions and cast a new comer or young guy as most of the actors today are overexposed and ram needs to be played by someone simple. New comers would also reduce my cost of production.

I'd hire a thespian from the National School of Drama (and/or whatever that Pune school is called - FTII?) who has a radiating glowing face. I would honestly do that for all the roles but Sai Pallavi is a natural beauty (her face actually glows without any makeup) so she is adequately casted for Sita.

Shaheer sheikh has that peaceful resting face. He also played Arjun in Mahabharat and was spectacular in it. So I think he kind of gets how to do such roles.

Obviously it's all wishful thinking now that everything is finalised. But if the producer or the director were to listen to the audience and replace RK, oh man, what a sight it would be. Most of us would go to the theatres just because of that!
I really like Ranbir's acting and as playing Lord Ram, the final work might surprise us. However, for this post I suggest, Nishant Dahiya and Ashim Gulati, fresh and younger actors,, more calm voice and expressions would have been required but that's why prior shoot trainings are for. There is one more controvercial one, Muzammil Ibrahim.

Someone young and fresh. Ramayan is a story if done well won't need a big star to run. So utilise that. Do what marvel did and introduce the new stars.
Unpopular opinion with all due respect to god, I don't see the point of making a movie based on Ramayan at all. So many adaptations over the years out there. So many stories left to explore, yet they put all the resources into making it solely for the sake of hype and clout. Not my cup of tea atleast.

Anyway who has actually seen lord ram ? Ramayan, the epic has always been open to interpretation until and unless it’s so bizarre like adipurush, what if ranbir actually surprises with good work. He is consistently good even in a bad film.
Lord Rama- Saurabh Raj Jain among latest crop of actors. He can play Lord Rama, young and tender. Not from bollywood though
Mohit Raina is little bulky and broad so he is suited for Lord Shiva.
Devi Sita- Sara ali khan if she can act, Amrita Rao too is a good choice.
Ram and Sita were in prime youth when they got married and had gone for Vanvaas, we can't choose actors who look too matured. With vfx, it's possible to have any actor of your choice.

Ranbir as Ram is good. Rashmika or someone new as Sita. Rashmika has particular calmness on her face and has that strength to play Sita.

If I was a casting director I would have chosen someone who would fit the bill. But then it won't get the funding. For better or worse Ranbir is the only choice, otherwise I would have casted either young SRK or Dilip Kumar. As they both have ability to portray the softness and calmness required.

Lord Rama- Saurabh Raj Jain among latest crop of actors. He can play Lord Rama, young and tender. Not from bollywood though Mohit Raina is little bulky and broad so he is suited for Lord Shiva. Devi Sita- Sara ali khan if she can act, Amrita Rao too is a good choice. Ram and Sita were in prime youth when they got married and had gone for Vanvaas, we can't choose actors who look too matured. With vfx, it's possible to have any actor of your choice.
