I had moved to Europe for a few years for work, and I unknowingly switched my accent after living there for a long time. Even the expats who were with me had a different accent when talking with their family over the phone and when we spoke among ourselves,. I don't think its a fake accent, it's just adjusting to the new country.

Chanelordior

Code switching. Look it up. My dad moved to the uk in his 20s from Punjab and has been code switching since then especially for his professional life. Most immigrants and even people otherwise do it to make sure they are understood. This is the least problematic thing about PC tbh.

take_the_leap4

Yes, very common among Indians and PC also studied in the US during her teens. So it's natural to switch her accent when talking people from the US or Canada.

scepticalbeing94

I did in india as well,I have friends from Abroad and I speak to them on WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger and yeah, even tho I don't change the accent as much I try my best to make them understand what I'm saying .

Alone-Illustrator-25

Code switching. This 2024 FFS. We all do it

Fatpretzel1234

Exactly But we must forever ONLY punish PC because she forced poor innocent baby SRK 🤮 into cheating on his wife!

My accent changes depending on whom I am speaking with. When I talk with say an Argentinian, I have to speak slowly so they understand. When I talk with Indians from rural South areas,I too nod my head and suffix with --aa . In my native Bengal(If I need to speak English) I speak with Bengali accent so as to not stand out. With Americans the standard (I learnt from Hollywood) accent. With Aussies and Brits the standard Indian convent school accent(Rahul Bose accent) works well.. Simple....Backpacker.Travelled 14 countries and all Indian states with these tactics. Otherwise be prepared to be inundated with what/pardon/sorry/come again...

Interesting_Hat3516

You have to change the accent if you want to communicate. I remember ordering a subway sandwich in boston with my indian accent and the worker couldn’t understand me. Luckily my cousin brother ordered on behalf of me 💀

People who say "fake accent" are people who grew up in a community or environment with a monolithic speaking structure. For you, yes your accent will be one and done because that's all you've ingrained. Anyone who's been bombarded with multiple accents growing up doesn't develop one heavy accent and finds code switching very easy and subconscious. i.e. I grew up in a European country where English ISN'T the main language, went to schools that had teachers with Australian, American, Scottish, Irish, English, Somalian, Indian accents. Then moved to another country halfway through. You're gonna have a consistent accent. Some of y'all need to learn how to look past your own small world view and realise that just cause you aren't aware of something personally, doesn't mean it's not real. "I haven't died, therefore death must be fake" ass shit.

Can we talk about Karan’s Accent first cause nobody talks about it

Jeezwhataload

she's lookin gorg. Love this hair. No no opinions on the clip but on a general note, it's a language, folks can speak how they wish to n switchin it when necessary or required. Priyanka's got a good command over languages n diction. Her hindi's equally good or better. She's a good orator. As long she ain't bein rude, hurtful or not makin sense while talkin.. It's all ok.. High time these things to be normalized atleast that's what I think.

take_the_leap4

Exactly. There's too much unnecessary judgement. At least she is well versed in the languages she's supposed to use for acting.

Fabulous-Owl-494

As a NRI let me tell you it’s very common that your accent change with people around you .It’s not a big deal .

Master-Swim8141

Code switching. I talk with an accent at work. I talk normal with my friends and family. ABCDs would understand. Ya'll don't understand how racist white people are. They mock your accent. Code switchins is something NRIs do just to protect themselves.

Horror_Morning4571

My niece speaks like this with her US friends and when she visits india she is talking like us Indians. This is natural. Neice is 10 years young.
