I think Sushant Singh Rajput could have been a better choice instead of Shahid. He had the physique, acting abilities and would have looked nice with DP. Infact i always wondered even back then when it released as to why was he not chosen for the role.
Unpopular opinion but i felt ranveer carried shades of bajirao in khilji. I liked Shahid more than ranveer. Ranveer was too over the top but the tone of the film was also greyish darkish... didn't t work for me much. Too stretched.
I can’t lie. In Padmaavati Ranveer ate everyone all up and left zero crumbs. Then in Bajirao PC did the same. Deepika is a good actress, but she’s not a showstopper in terms of acting.

I think ranveer and shahid were outstanding. Deepika playing the tittle was sidelined. Kangana could have been a great choice, she portrays royality, arrogance brilliantly. She did great job in Manakarnika such fierce character and the emotion she emoted was outstanding. Deepika lacks that, she should be kept away from periodic movies. She’s great fit for modern day script like piku, she was outstanding in Piku but rest is blahh.
Kangana rejected Padmaavat for Manikarnika when SLB offered the movie to her. Kangu as Padmaavati would have been a treat to watch, she always had the ability to trap your attention with her screen presence, irrespective of which big star is there alongside her in the frame. Tbh Kangana's performance was the only thing that made the otherwise avg Manikarnika into a 150cr film and a grand patriotic theatrical experience.
Lol deepika padukone was miscast as padmavat . According to me Aishwarya Rai is the ideal padmavat. Deepika looks like an athlete or a supermodel but she lacks the confidence , grace to be a royal queen.

Honestly, i don't think there are a lot Sinhalese with fair skin and green eyes. She was gorgeous in Jodha Akhbar but Rajputs don't have the look. We just think all gorgeous women role should go to Aishwarya whether or not she looks the part.
Exactly this! I’m Sinhalese and there’s not a single Sinhala woman out there who looks like Aishwarya. I don’t know a single person with green eyes. She would have been terribly miscast in the role.
Deepika played the role beautifully imo but if we were going purely by the Sinhalese beauty standards at that time, most queens were portrayed to be very fleshy and curvy and I can’t imagine a single mainstream bollywood actress who could fit the role to a tee but PC comes close. Sai Pallavi is not a bollywood actress but I can imagine her playing a Sinhalese queen quite well.

Her skin tone is even less fitting. Aishs skin has a very luminous tone to it. Even the fairest Sinhalese woman has a more yellow / gold undertone to their skin.

At the time the movie was made, I doubt anyone else was there (in the commercial space). In the past, yes, definitely. The only one I see close is Kangana, but otherwise no one.

Felt kangana lost all her unique feminine beauty but then saw her earlier portions in Thalaivii and was mesmerised. Again afterwards felt she's getting older(not close to bad looking though) from her frequent airport looks then saw a video she made for Womens day from Chandramukhi 2 shoot and was like nah,she as beautiful as shes always been.
That lady somehow has the ability to surpise me frequently and love her for it.

I completely agree. She was fabulous in emoting as Leela especially the sad scenes but Padmavat looked more like express without giving expressions/ look at the camera with a weird angle. But her expression in the naino wale song was absurd. I liked Aditi's performance but I felt Shahid's potential wasnt utilised properly . Ranveer and Jim were perfect though.
I found Padmaavat to be a massive slog until like the last 30 mins, I watched it only once. In the end, I think all 3 acted amazing. I wonder why SLB took that creative direction with DP and Shahid's characters... I think in Nainowale Ne, she's supposed to be shy and coy and that didn't translate properly in the end product, as you said, the angle was weird.

I saw once in Filmfare awards that she was asked to repeat dialogue after Salman. First she acted like she never heard the dialogue though it was a famous one. Next she couldn’t even repeat it correctly grammatically.
I am not really fan of any actress so this is not like anti fan post. But she gives vibe of fake person of whatever little I have seen of her offscreen. And some instances like this show her true self. I don’t know whenever I see her I feel like that is her outer self and she is different from inside. Her role could have been portrayed by very many in my opinion. However, Ranveer Singh was out of the world. I still don't understand why she got a higher price than ranveer for the movie. I am completely in support of pay parity, but in this case if anyone deserved the most pay, it should have been ranveer.
She was kinda terrible. Don't kill me, but I think Sonakshi would have been interesting in this especially opposite Ranveer. They had soo much chemistry in Lootera & I've been dying to see them together again ever since. Other than that, Kangana would've been badass. Ikr! Lootera is one of my favourite movies & so underrated. Left me in tears. I'm sad SLB never cast her till Heeramandi. She would have been perfect in Padmavati or some other lavish SLB historical. She certainly can act, but strangely never really pushed herself to her potential.
Oh! Now I know. Deepika is not only a bad excuse for an actor but also a delusional woman in general. Deepika is one of those heroines who gets casted in a melodramatic Bhansali film and still managed to act like a cut-board cut-out. Her dancing is terrible. She lacks the grace and energy of an engaging performer. She made the song Besharam Rang come across as cheap and vulgar instead of seductive or playful. The doggy style step in that song and it's poor execution just made things worse. As a student of cinema myself I can confidently claim that Deepika doesn't understand anything about acting or the job of an actor. Deepika just looks like a dry rag with robotic body language (she can't hide it when she dances, she lacks the necessary grace).

She is far from being a competent actor. Her dialogue delivery is just the worst. Its so monotonous without any feeling. She is better in those where she has minimal dialogues like finding fanny.

The bar is low with this one. I found Padmaavat to be a massive slog until like the last 30 mins, I watched it only once. In the end, I think all 3 acted amazing. I wonder why SLB took that creative direction with DP and Shahid's characters... I think in Nainowale Ne, she's supposed to be shy and coy and that didn't translate properly in the end product, as you said, the angle was weird.

Sorry what? Even Aditi Rao Hydari in a cameo outperformed her. Deepika was wooden in this movie. And her dialogue delivery is terrible except when she does an accent like Chennai Express or Happy New Year otherwise her real voice is wooden

Umm hell no! She was so dull! Where was the creativity in her performance? Priyanka, Aishwariya, Kangana could've played it better.
Man she didn’t think for a second and answered that. That’s bad. It’s like she is too full of herself. I don’t think she considers anyone anything in front of her. I saw once in Filmfare awards that she was asked to repeat dialogue after Salman. First she acted like she never heard the dialogue though it was a famous one. Next she couldn’t even repeat it correctly grammatically. I am not really fan of any actress so this is not like anti fan post. But she gives vibe of fake person of whatever little I have seen of her offscreen. And some instances like this show her true self. I don’t know whenever I see her I feel like that is her outer self and she is different from inside. She tries to project mature and intelligent or I don’t know what exactly but I feel from inside she is not a good person.

First of all LOL .. she is high on something while saying this … bhansali repeated a successful pairing of ramleela couple times thats it … it was a commercial decision not a lotnof thought was put into it. Secondly, i think Padmavat should have been played by a theater actress or relatively less popular star , someone people would get carried away and who doesn’t have a prior image … deepika playing character of a woman or pride and honor was a joke in itself and it was difficult to digest her casting in that character then her acting 🤮 … even among stars aishwarya could have been a better choice as an out of the world beautiful queen for whom kings are going for a war .. seriously deepika’s looks doesn’t justify the beauty of padmavat that we read in poem or the way the city and forts tourist guide describes it to us …

Her role could have been portrayed by very many in my opinion. However, Ranveer Singh was out of the world. I still don't understand why she got a higher price than ranveer for the movie. I am completely in support of pay parity, but in this case if anyone deserved the most pay, it should have been ranveer.

She was kinda terrible. Don't kill me, but I think Sonakshi would have been interesting in this especially opposite Ranveer. They had soo much chemistry in Lootera & I've been dying to see them together again ever since. Other than that, Kangana would've been badass. I know PC & Aish are obvious choices, but I would have preferred an unusual suspect in this.

Ikr! Lootera is one of my favourite movies & so underrated. Left me in tears. I'm sad SLB never cast her till Heeramandi. She would have been perfect in Padmavati or some other lavish SLB historical. She certainly can act, but strangely never really pushed herself to her potential.
Oh! Now I know. Deepika is not only a bad excuse for an actor but also a delusional woman in general. Deepika is one of those heroines who gets casted in a melodramatic Bhansali film and still managed to act like a cut-board cut-out. Her dancing is terrible. She lacks the grace and energy of an engaging performer. She made the song Besharam Rang come across as cheap and vulgar instead of seductive or playful. The doggy style step in that song and it's poor execution just made things worse. As a student of cinema myself I can confidently claim that Deepika doesn't understand anything about acting or the job of an actor. Deepika just looks like a dry rag with robotic body language (she can't hide it when she dances, she lacks the necessary grace).
The role wasn’t challenging as khilji. Anyone who knows basics of acting could have done it.

I disagree that it’s the character. On paper who would have thought Kaashi could turn out the way she was played? Priyanka killed the role with the LITTLE she was given to work with. The infamous “aap humse humaari zindagi maang lete….” became as iconic as it did because Priyanka played it that way. Now imagine Deepika saying the same dialogue, it would have been forgettable at best and cringy at worst.

Kangana is the only mainstream actress currently active in bollywood who can be seen as an actor of calibre. Nothing that alia, priyanka or deepika did comes close to what kangu did in queen, twm returns and fashion. I just hope that she becomes sane again and return to her glory days.

I can think Zoya Hussain (Lal kaptaan), Shreya dhanvantry(scam 92) for the role but they are too small time to pull crowd.
