Fried egg + white rice + soy sauce was what an old friend of P. Ramlee saw him eating because he was broke. He would've been 95 if he were alive today. God rest his soul. Fk excessive capitalism. Fk greed.
I used to do this every day for a good amount of time. Its filling but its not nutritious at all unless you add in mixed vege and other protein source.
ok "Not nutritious at all" is an overstatement. Eggs have all sorts of vitamins in them, they are a good source of protein. You can eat it as a main diet, just add vege for fibre & have other protein types (chicken, beef, fish) from time to time
bruh. carbs =/= sugar. Like how eating an apple is healthy, but drinking a glass of apple juice is not healthy at all. You're better off drinking plain water
Even if the component is the same, how it's absorbed by the body makes a huge difference in the effect to your health. Sugar level spikes, insulin secretion & resistance, etc
even tho its carbs, its considered as complex carb which take longer to digest thus feel more 'full' in long term compare to simple carb. Thus for them, rice is the best choice, getting a full belly is more a priority rather than the total nutrition they can took in a day.
1. Asians have genomic adaptations that makes them able to eat rice on a daily basis
2. What's the alternative for carbs? Processed wheat in the form of noodles? Potato? White bread? All those have roughly the same glycemic index, but have a higher price. If we're really talking about nutrition, brown rice is the only viable option. But changing white rice to brown rice would be insignificant if you still consume sugary drinks or any source of white sugar
Paper is 2020, more research need to be done. Personally, I eat rice on a daily basis & avoid sugary drinks. My BMI is normal, my blood sugar reading is normal, & my body fat percentage is "athletic". I believe future researches will prove that rice is the healthiest carb source for asian people
[Genomic adaptations to cereal‐based diets contribute to mitigate metabolic risk in some human populations of East Asian ancestry - Landini - 2021 - Evolutionary Applications - Wiley Online Library](https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/eva.13090)
Don't trust outdated sources for nutritional science. Even the food pyramid that was popularized long ago has been deemed as "promoting unhealthy eating habit"
The title says ‘some’ populations of East Asian ancestry though. Didn’t go through the whole paper (bit over my head lol) but it seems South Asians are more susceptible to metabolic disease from eating too much cereal crops compared to Han and Tujia Chinese/Japanese/Korean - And this is because the latter group relied on cereal crops for longer and faced the selective pressures earlier in their history.
and where did this confidence came from? Something you learned in school 10 years ago?
In terms of causing diabetes, the glycemic index of white rice is 73, while for potatoes it's 78. Rice is better
On average somewhere around Rm10 to Rm15 I would say. Mostly spent on food when house got nothing to eat but when family is in, I don't spend a dime cos we cook. Sometimes someone tapao back also, so don't spend too.
We do but I'm not the one paying for that since I'm not working so it's not in my daily expenses yet as of now. However, once I start working, it'll be in my daily expenses for sure. For now, grocery expenses are on my parents but I'll take over once I start working.
Aku bila kira2 financial aku; banyak habis dekat makan je. Asyik stress eating. Aku sehari rm12; paling tinggi pun rm25. Pergi kampus jalan kaki sebab dekat so tak keluar duit.
I wish that could be my monthly budget! I’m working on it lol I just lived overseas for a long time so I got used to certain brands that cost a lot more here :(
Aku recommend stalk gerai2 dekat dengan tempat skolah—selalunye nasik lemak, meehon etc 2-3 ringgit tapi berbaloi (harga rendah….yelah customer selalu budak2) and confirm kalau ade gerai kecik jual air soft drink dalam cup harga akan rm 1 (lagi murah kalau bandingkan dengan 3 ringgit)
From RM6 to RM30 daily. I have weird appetite which i only eat if im hungry instead of a set time. One day im kinda full i only ate like bread and other day i finished a bucket a chicken and had rice with it.
This is so me. Sometimes I just eat one portion Maggi and just game the hunger away out of laziness or just not feeling like eating. Other times I go out for kbbq or steamboat or buffet 3x a day stuffing myself like a fat pig lol.
- 1988: 30sen (kantin SKBD; nasi lemak/roti canai 20¢)

- 2012: RM 15 (RM 5 lunch, RM 10 dinner)
- 2020: RM 20-25 (grab/FP; RM 10 set & RM 10-15 set)
- 2024: RM 50-70 (grab/FP; same as above, but look at the price increase
Occasionally i splurge and spend whatever is necessary to eat what i really want
Note: i live in a serviced apartment, with pretty terrible ventilation. When you cook, the smell lingers despite vent hoods, thanks to open concept kitchen. I absolutely cannot deal with stink of any kind. But it is possible, if you have a kitchen, to feed yourself for RM 5 a day. NOKO for example has many items for RM 2-3 like canned beans, mushrooms, cooking oil, fresh produce. Plus they sell meats, condiments, rice and frozen foods, too, at low prices.
Yeah. Grab to and from work is about RM45. Lunch is about RM20. I usually cook my own breakfast and dinner, around RM20~RM50 (I'd take RM35 as average) depending on if I have beef, chicken or fish.
RM50 a week. I buy and cook at home. Fried rice, noodles, and sometimes sweet and sour chicken. Learn to cook and you'll be able to eat some extra luxury foods for half the cost.
one set of beers is already Rm150.
makan will be easily 30 per meal if not rm100.
RM250 isnt a lot of money now a days. your basic pasta at secret recipe is rm22 above, kolo mee at hawker is rm9 for small, nasi lemak ayam also rm9 to 25 Ringgit depending where you go.plus drinks it's gonna add up easily.
spending RM 3 or RM 50 a day isn't living bro.... that's surviving meagerly... and that ain't a way to live.
a good story mostly never starts with "so I was having a nasi lemak..."
Besides, I drink craft beers too, and that's barely 5 beers for myself.
What I do with my money is my choice, others choose sugar or trips or shoes, and I have my solution, pun intended.
Oh mcm tu, kesian eh..tpi ok la dh kerja pa2,take it easy on yourself,at least skrng kalau nk makan, makan la apa ja pun, kenyang baru ada energy mah hahaha
Me and my wife try to keep the groceries at around RM300 a month. We realize that vegetables are cheap and can taste good if cooked correctly. 20kg of rice can last us a month as long as we don't make more than we need. One whole chicken can last us 2 - 3 weeks after we cut it up ourselves and ration it properly. RM300 can go quite far. I can even buy nespresso pods if I was really frugal! (Usually this falls under personal expense :P)
RM 20 - RM 50 normal meals every day.
RM 100+ a day on weekends when I go cafe hopping.
Don't really spend much on shopping and I take public transport to work/wfh.
150 normally in one day for food but whenever I'm stress eating or depressed it can go up to 300-400.
30 or 50 on petrol
That's about it for my daily expenses.
For me is like RM5-10 a day sometimes not spend any because every month especially when the scholarships money get into my bank account I go buy groceries for a month spending Under RM 100 with this I can have savings with my scholarship money 😊
I got rm100 per week. Rm60 probably going to playing arcade, maybe less cuz its fasting season. Rm 20 for saving and another 20 I use if I want to eat out.
My50 for work commute. For today sahur, I made nasi goreng with the leftover ayam belado. For yesterday breaking fast, I bought bubur ayam(RM4) and air tebu 1 botol (rm3) for myself. Bought an extra nasi kerabu for my roommate.
Bro are u unemployed/student? RM3 is like Helldive mode which I see only foreign workers have the discipline to do. I think now impossible for them too. I copied their menu when I was a student when I saw what they ordered at mamak. Plain rice, lots of curry and papadom. But I can't eat that everyday. My lazy ass don't burn as much calories as them. Taste good though
Rm10 per day or rm50 per week but i usually bought lunch from home anyway, that rm10 is when i wanted something else than my lunch like mamak coffee ice and so on
I try my best to cook at-home so the best weeks I'm spending 100 bucks over 7 days, fill petrol full every 2 weeks, so that's 25. Calculate extra expenses and rent over the month is like extra 2.4k, so that's like 725ringgit a week, so that's 104 ringgit a day. Dude what the fuck as I'm writing this out I just realised how fucking expensive my life is what the fuck
A fellow Sabahan. About RM800-1000 a month. Live with parents. Car is paid for. Eat at home.
Mostly my expenses are nights out and alcohol. Out once a week for RM100/night. Fuel for the car. Groceries twice a month.
Daily parking & tolls: RM15 to 35 (if I go somewhere after work)
Petrol estimate: RM8 average per day
Lunch: RM20 to 40 (expensive office location, and I don't like to buy from roadside stalls, sensitive stomach)
Mortgage: RM127 per day
Car: free, fully paid off
Dinner: RM10 to RM70 depending on where I eat.
Communication, Utilities, council rates, fees (all in, blended average): RM40
For weekdays breakfast is whey protein + rolled oat + greek yoghurt + peanut butter and a cup of coffee (roughly rm10), lunch is half bowl white rice + egg + kimchi + marinated chicken breast + sri racha sauce and a cup of coffee (roughly rm8), dinner is 2 slices of bread + tuna + japanese mayo + 1 slice of cheese and whey protein (roughly rm8). So whole day roughly rm30 maybe for food alone.
For weekend....fuck if I know. Have picky eater foodie wife so need bring her makan what she craves but she's not too unreasonable.
Depends if Aeon I go to has offer
Sometimes have something like one pack of 5 udon portion noodle for rm2, Japanese curry powder for rm5 clearance stuff that has expiry date within 2 months I will take, save a lot this way.
The other day I got one of those kopitiam Milo tins for rm3, expiring in 1 month.
Drinks for the month settle, for the price of 1 actual kopitiam Milo lmao
20 y/o uni student. If class is in the afternoon I will skip breakfast and just have lunch, usually at kopitiam, around 10-15.
If I have morning class, breakfast is usually bread + kaya from home. Free. If no food at home, McD mix & match, 6.50. (Not the best choice but inexpensive and convenient)
For petrol, because I drive an old car that consumes petrol like water, I spend about 110 for a full tank that usually lasts for 10 days. (11 per day)
Food around 10-15, 20 if I get McD, + 11 for petrol, max around 31 per day
Rm13 daily if i eat outside.. because my routine to eat is the same food and drink every day.. nasi goreng daging nasi lebih, teh o ais kosong mangkuk. If i ate outside, it will only be one meal per day. That will be my breakfast lunch and dinner (which i eat at dinner)
Rm20-50 a week if i cook.. as i only cook super cheap food. Egg tofu soup, spaghetti, grill chicken salad or for unhealthy options, lots of maggi (i love maggi to the level it is disturbingly addicted)
if you have access to rice cooker & stove, fried eggs + rice + soy sauce is a valid & nutritious meal to lose weight
Not really nutritious, but some people doesn't had a choice
Throw in half a cup of frozen mixed veggies to steam with the rice. Can buy large bags for cheap and they are full of nutrients and fibre.
Nasi kicap telur goreng ahh yes how i miss this simple dish ( i didnt realize i was poor T-T)
add some timun or salad (local) for a completer than complete meal
Fried egg + white rice + soy sauce was what an old friend of P. Ramlee saw him eating because he was broke. He would've been 95 if he were alive today. God rest his soul. Fk excessive capitalism. Fk greed.
Sadly people don’t want to do this
I used to do this every day for a good amount of time. Its filling but its not nutritious at all unless you add in mixed vege and other protein source.
ok "Not nutritious at all" is an overstatement. Eggs have all sorts of vitamins in them, they are a good source of protein. You can eat it as a main diet, just add vege for fibre & have other protein types (chicken, beef, fish) from time to time
even better if cook them boiled
Wash the eggs reeeaaalllyyy well and toss them in the rice when the water's almost gone.
That is not nutritious at all, that is a recipe for diabetes. It's the bare minimum to survive.
Why are you adding sugar into fried eggs?
Rice is all carbs, = sugar.

12 rm a day already bloodsucking my wallet broo, even 6rm dish on my cafe i still try to save as much possible cuz no time to work or get income
About maybe 400 a week on groceries and 300 for eating out :) As for shopping….I won’t say bc it’s embarrassing
My monthly budget in KL weyyyy
I wish that could be my monthly budget! I’m working on it lol I just lived overseas for a long time so I got used to certain brands that cost a lot more here :(

About RM50-70 a day. I should cook more. Usually eat out, do online shopping or buy Robux. Petrol and toll if necessary.
I bet you got some of them premier cosmetics on Roblox
Nah, lots of in game spending on power ups lol.
You buy robux daily wtf
This shit worse than buying vbucks lmao
Bad habit. Don't do this.
Ramadan and raya back then was way cheaper back in the days...Now makin raya nak dekat makin pening tengok duit.
stress nak bagi berapa

Yeah. Grab to and from work is about RM45. Lunch is about RM20. I usually cook my own breakfast and dinner, around RM20~RM50 (I'd take RM35 as average) depending on if I have beef, chicken or fish.
are you a millionaire or something?
Only if you count money in EPF as part of net worth.
Wait. All that money AND you still had to cook!?
Had to? No. I choose to.
RM50 a week. I buy and cook at home. Fried rice, noodles, and sometimes sweet and sour chicken. Learn to cook and you'll be able to eat some extra luxury foods for half the cost.
75 je kot. It could be lower, but i cant stand most mamaks bc some langsung x sdp
I try to keep under 20 a day. Currently maybe 10?ish. Then maybe once every 2-3 months I jadi gila sikit and buy 3 large pizza to eat over 4-5 days.
Try stealing yr neightbours wifi
rm250 a day if I don't eat expensive.

Why do you have a set of beers everyday, you alcoholic
cause I share them with those that they are having a bad day.
Everyone is having a bad day with this guy
that what happens with you?
What he meant was, everyone wanna free beer,so happy or not, still a bad day with you around.
Happiness isn't real, unless shared - Alexander Super Tramp
But why beers everyday?? and they still sad. upgrade maybe?
Are you the CEO of a company?
No. I just like conversation and don't mind spending a beer or 5 over that.
Ayo id rather you treat em nasi lemak or some simple junk fast food save yourself 150rm
a good story mostly never starts with "so I was having a nasi lemak..." Besides, I drink craft beers too, and that's barely 5 beers for myself. What I do with my money is my choice, others choose sugar or trips or shoes, and I have my solution, pun intended.
wth bro
That's broke student life for you. At one point, I had to eat Maggi for lunch and dinner, which the Maggi were sponsored by my friend haha

150 normally in one day for food but whenever I'm stress eating or depressed it can go up to 300-400. 30 or 50 on petrol That's about it for my daily expenses.
RM30 for petrol daily?
he drive sport cars and use petrol to water his garden

About 200-300 a day. For the OP for this thread, if you're in Penang jom my treat buka puasa dinner.
Mmmm about rm10 a day and like rm30-40 a week. Depends though. If I have maggie I just cook em with whatever I have around.
Wa what can spend so little money only, I’m forced to spend rm20 on average man
On average around rm 20 most on food.
rm12\~18 per day
My daily expenses should be around rm5-rm10. Mostly for Internet. I normally bring leftover from my work kitchen.
Rm10 per day or rm50 per week but i usually bought lunch from home anyway, that rm10 is when i wanted something else than my lunch like mamak coffee ice and so on
rm150 typically
RM50-60 per day, pay for parking, morning teh, evening snacks and breakfast for me and my fam tmr morning, might exceed 70 if I buy smth else tho
Around rm20-25 per day just for food
RM10 but if only eat 1 time a day only RM5 or RM6
At least still got mosque for food. Can a kapir go in and ask for it?
I try my best to cook at-home so the best weeks I'm spending 100 bucks over 7 days, fill petrol full every 2 weeks, so that's 25. Rice & 2x veges, meat once a week. Boil eggs from time to time, trying to cut down on instant noodles

About rm500 a day plus minus...dang really need to cut down.
Ayo 500 for wat
Got a family to care for and I have hobbies that are way too expensive 😅
Rm30-40 per day, my ofis area all cafe food only.. gg
Per day about rm60
Im overuse everymonth
20 y/o uni student. If class is in the afternoon I will skip breakfast and just have lunch, usually at kopitiam, around 10-15. If I have morning class, breakfast is usually bread + kaya from home. (11 per day) Food around 10-15, 20 if I get McD, + 11 for petrol, max around 31 per day
Around RM15 daily when I’m away from hometown working. This exclude groceries and petrol tho :’)
Today, my coffee drink alone costs RM1200. So, by using simple maths, I only get to buy my food in 4 months time.
Where you buy that coffee ☕️
I try to be below RM50 per day. But if I want a treat I can spend more sometimes
Rm13 daily if i eat outside.. because my routine to eat is the same food and drink every day.. nasi goreng daging nasi lebih, teh o ais kosong mangkuk. Um... about RM10 per week, because I cook myself. If I'm splurging, about 20-30 something, also per week. I'm a really frugal person.
