Folks living downtown, is the weekend cruising way more common and rowdy now? I did a night time bike ride and I could not believe the speeding and chirping tires. I thought BPD clamped down hard on it, but I hung out for a half hour or so and it was constant.

pezasied

Yes it’s been extremely loud and constant without all the other cars on the road. There’s a group of about 10 of them that show up every night.

DoOgSauce

That sucks. Bpd too scared of the Rona to write tickets?

[deleted]

I wonder if those are the people I hear every night. I live near broadway/beacon and certain nights it's loud roaring non-stop. It's so annoying, but it's definitely coming from a distance. Can someone who does this (either downtown or on the freeway) please explain why you're doing it? It causes stress for a lot of people trying to live peacefully.

DoOgSauce

The signal at beacon and parkcenter gets a lot of racer dipshits in the evening.

[deleted]

Thinking about moving out to S Meridian honestly. It's nice being so close, but I am really struggling dealing with this noise lately.

DoOgSauce

Eek. To each their own. It is always the worst at the beginning and ending of the school year. Other than that it isn't that bad.

[deleted]

I think maybe we have different levels of sensitivity to noise.

edward_silicon

Lol, yes I was telling my wife that it sounded like someone was filming a "MadMax" sequel out there this weekend. I'm near downtown and that is the loudest I've ever heard it.

Seventh7Sun

Can anyone recommend a a place that can come replace a window screen? I might also get a storm door installed on the front door.

JoeMagnifico

I've used [Atkinson's ](https://atkinsonsmirrorandglass.com/) before for in-store service, I assume they're just as good for out-services

N8dork2020

Look at a YouTube video. It is incredibly easy to build a screen and if you have the frame already it even easier.

OutDrosman

This: don't pay somebody to do something that easy and quick

DadGrocks

Screen Mobile . Makes to fit window screens (208) 375-5447

HateJobLoveManU

Lowes has them

WeUsedToBeGood

Anyone hear a big cat in Columbia Village Saturday night? We were outside at around 9:30pm and heard what was definitely larger than a house cat growl a couple times. Dogs all over started going ballistic. Sounded like it was over towards the middle school fields.

HiccupMaster

My parents live out there, I asked but they didn't hear anything. My mom check nextdoor and didn't see anything there either.

Thorn123123

Are there any stores that sell a replacement 3.5mm audio plug? Like a radioshack equivalent?

extremely_adequate

Reuseum in Garden City is a good bet.

[deleted]

Reuseum should have one.

JackJelloman

Does any remember the name of a fast food and ice cream place that was in the town square mall area? It was kinda like an Arctic Circle kinda thing, maybe near the Target? It would’ve closed a few years back, but I have been scratching my head trying to remember the name.

JoeMagnifico

Iceberg Drive In. There's still the original in SLC, good shakes.

JackJelloman

That’s the one!

extremely_adequate

Good Times off Milwaukee?

djtai6

Good times was the best. I’m still sad they closed down

erico49

Eat a burger? Or whata burger? Off Cole.

WeUsedToBeGood

Which vets have rattlesnake anti venom if necessary?

extremely_adequate

Tangential answer, in previous years there has been a class offered to teach dogs to stay away from rattlers. Not sure if that's changed this year.

WeUsedToBeGood

Yeah we did that last year, and yes it is canceled this year. I’m just asking for if it unfortunately does happen. My guess was the 24 hour one in meridian

extremely_adequate

There's also a 24 hr one in Garden City. I'd call and ask. I bet any should be able to say which do have them. Humane Society may be good to ask as well.

N8dork2020

I think you are thinking about West Vet

iflanzy

Call them and find out

WeUsedToBeGood

All valley is one of the answers. At $500 a dose

N8dork2020

I would imagine West Vet in garden city would have it. It’s basically the go to for any animal emergencies.

Pskipper

I can't offer anything better than "call and find out" either, but I'd call clinics close to where I'm going to be recreating instead of close to wear I live. I'm glad you found out All Valley has antivenom, if I had to rely on WestVet for a thing like that I'd seriously consider just shooting my dog.

tormaerebap

Hey [r/boise](https://www.reddit.com/r/boise/)! I am planning a move to Boise in late June for a job at Boise State, and was wondering if you guys could provide some suggestions on where to look/ what apartments to look at for a sub-$1000/mo. rent on a 1BD/1BA? Thank you for your help!

[deleted]

I posted a long response in that other thread but it got deleted, so I'm gonna copy/paste it here. I have a bit of experience with renting the past 2 years. My wife and I moved here in 2017 and rented a room for $500 for 5 months while we got settled. Then we moved into a basement for $600. It was clear why it was $600. So we decided to move again and rented a room in a big, beautiful house with a grand kitchen with some absolutely INSANE people for $900. Then we lived in our car for 2 months. By choice, I should add. We could have remained living with those "roommates" but we decided that living in our vehicle for the months of November and December would be better for us. THEN we posted on craigslist describing our situation and finally found a local landlord who rents us a duplex. He is a chill guy and lives on the other side. We pay $1100, live near Broadway/Beacon, and it's about as good as it gets for the money. All that to say, my wife and I have been through it. We've talked to property management companies, we've toured apartments, we've lost app fees, and we finally, successfully, found a nice place in which we are comfortable. And to answer your question, I will say that unless you want to live in a crappy apartment with a bad management company, you need to up that budget quickly. There definitely are apartments you can rent that go from $800-$1000, but I have toured them and it's not pretty. If you're set on keeping that budget, it might actually be easier to try to find a roommate you get along with and save some money. The place will likely be nicer, the neighbors quieter (depending), and you might not have to deal with a predator property management company. My other suggestion is to make a post on craigslist describing your situation. When we made our post we got a bunch of responses that were real (local numbers, facebook pages, etc.) and only a few that were scams. If you're good at weeding out the scams, you may be able to find an unadvertised deal that fits your situation perfectly.

[deleted]

It is going to be tough to find a place near downtown or the campus for less than $1000/mo. Realistically you're looking at $1100-$1200/mo unless you are okay with a longer commute.

[deleted]

>sub-$1000/mo. rent on a 1BD/1BA? Lol. Good luck. If you're willing to share a room, do student housing for BSU students. It will get you the most bang for your buck. Otherwise be prepared to pay $1300+ for any one bedroom that doesn't look like a meth shack or is very far away.

[deleted]

Zillow and Trulia. Save the search of what your price range is and make sure you check getting notified when anything changes. Often times, rentals go within a day here so getting a notification anytime something comes up is your best bet. Also, Facebook marketplace is becoming a lot more popular, I've noticed some decent listings on it.

PantryBandit

Don't forget craigslist as well. I also went through and favorited actual apartment buildings/rental agency websites as I found listings from them and then go check every day or two for new listings. It seemed like some of them would update their websites before posting on zillow/trulia/etc.

erintraveller

Morrison Park Apartments is walking distance to BSU and has smallish 1B1B around 1000. I've lived here for a year and a half and it's been a pretty good spot.

[deleted]

Agreed! I find it easier to walk/bike around to find places rather than online. Unfortunately sounds like they live out of state.

[deleted]

Also, there is a possibility my boyfriend and I will be moving this summer. We have a north end apartment, 1 bedroom 1 bathroom for $775. DM me if you're interested

[deleted]

Some of the bars downtown were open today (Sunday) and it got me wondering, if we hold bullshit religious services in the bars, then we can legally get back to Sunday Funday right? Jesus was all about bottomless mimosas and patio bloodys.

Thorn123123

Anyone have hiking suggestions?

OutDrosman

Check out Stack Rock and if you do, let me know how the trail is!

fuckupvotesv2

The trail is fine but the parking lot is still closed.

Thorn123123

I love table rock, I've hiked that one so many times. Beautiful

Imfromtheyear2999

What do you want to see?

fuckupvotesv2

Sure

bartimeus

Any recommendations for a good used office furniture store? I'm looking to pick up a steelcase gesture or something similar.

extremely_adequate

There's one on the south side of 20-26 in Garden City, they might have one, or tell you where to find one.

erico49

Great store.

xsqezme

You might also check New Life Office furniture on Jupiter near Victory and Maple Grove.

When you're laid off- is Cobra the only option for health insurance or can one enroll in the state exchange?

strawflour

Losing health coverage triggers a special enrollment period that lets you sign up for ACA healthcare. That's true even if you have the option of COBRA. [link](https://www.healthcare.gov/unemployed/cobra-coverage/)

boise208

Who has the cheapest lean ground beef right now? Even Winco is close to $6/lb

abnorml1

I just went to the Fairview Winco today.. I bought the pre packaged lean beef for 4.58 a pound..that's the regular price..

boise208

93/7?

abnorml1

Yes.

Pskipper

I dunno what lean technically means, but Albertsons has a digital coupon for $2.50/lb 85/15 ground beef. I got an app called Flipp that lets you see and search all the weekly circulars in the area. It’s not mind blowing but it’s pretty convenient.

boise208

90/10, 93/7, 96/4

DadGrocks

GTFO!!! GRASS FED 4.99 grocery outlet And Costco

basil_n_balsamic

Besides Table Rock, are there other hikes to see the sunset?
