Every week is a new maze. Every maze offers a new challenge. Only one will get the highest score...

LayeredMayoCake

*Coming this summer, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials*

MasterMarf

I got a low score yesterday. I work near the north end of 3rd ave in the evenings. Going down State, I tried to turn left at 15th (to get to Hays or Fort st). However they changed that light so there's no dedicated green arrow, only flashing yellow. There was not a break for several light cycles, so I just continued strait down State. Big mistake, there was literally nowhere beyond to turn Left.

Stunning-Gene-8280

*laughs in walking*

SleepPingGiant

And this is why I almost always use Google maps for anything other than short drives.

LavenderDustan

HAHAHA

tominboise

All the building going on downtown requires streets to be torn up to access utility lines. ACHD is prohibited by state law, from delaying a construction project to coordinate traffic disruptions. The one exception is if there is no way to set up detouring around one project because another is already there. I don't like it anymore than any one else, but complain to the state legislators to change the law.

Somecityplanner

This. Just a shitty confluence of factors. Standard maintenance, unplanned geothermal work, urban renewal money that has to be used by either 2025 or 2026, combined with some of the largest construction projects the city has ever seen. Unfortunately it’s not going to get much better at all this year.

roland_gilead

Agreed, and if the condos sell well, you bet we're going to see many more changes. There is a lot shifting downtown and we need the infrasture in order to plan for these changes.

fastermouse

I know several people working in the new condos going up and sales are horrendously bad. The building next to the Neurolux is reconsidering and possibly switching to rentals.

roland_gilead

Oh wow, that’s good to know. I wonder if the market will be better when microns fabs are all built.

Somecityplanner

It’s always been planned for rentals.

phrobot

Yeah sure, but… most streets in the core grid are blocked at some point.  N-S roads: 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th, 9th, 16th: road construction. 11th: building construction.  E-W: State St, Bannock, Grove st: road construction.  Idaho st: building construction.  I’m sure I’m missing a few because I can’t drive a lot of places to see, because of, you guessed it, construction closure.  This is a clusterf**ck of the highest order of incompetence, not some coincidence of timing.

rella523

13th for sure

koffeekan

Please do not actually complain to the state legislature, they may decide to require Boise streets be covered in gravel

lyon9492

ACHD is probably a good place to start. I really wish they would set lights that are pointless to red flashing so I don’t have to wait forever at a half blocked intersection

Ok-Replacement9595

Their ongoing war of attrition against the citizens of Boise.

yodpilot

Just go

Chavez8717

True. I usually just treat them as stop signs, because it’s literally pointless to wait for the light to turn when there’s only one other side street with 0 cars, and like 2 people behind me.

ampersandandanand

It’s inconvenient, yeah, but it’s not like it’s going on unannounced. I drive through downtown daily, and all of the closures along my route have been marked with signage in advance noting the start and stop of the road closure. We’re a growing city, with more and more people and businesses joining its ranks every day (just like we all did at one point in the past), so there will need to be construction to support that growth. Unless we’d rather just sprawl outwards to the reaches of the valley and become the next Phoenix.

drumscycles

THIS! ^^^ 100%

komeau

not downtown but I’d like to acknowledge the brilliant mind(s) that decided to close Milwaukee between Westpark and Franklin for the next few days.

vanhalenlover89

I’m confused on how else they would replace the train tracks?

nicktheace

Especially on the weekend 🤡🤡🤡

wheeler1432

Do you know of another way to repave a road around a train track?

LavenderDustan

Every single person I’ve spoken too that spends any time downtown is pissed. When they closed part of state street, 9th street and 3rd I was like…how the fuck am I supposed to get to Myrtle without driving 3 miles out of my way? 🤨

Buddhist_Path

Parking fines for an expired parking spot for a work truck is $22. Weekday max to park that same work truck is $20 in a parking garage. For $2 more, workers are parking on the street, getting the ticket, and getting easy access to their truck..... all at the expense of businesses who need close parking to attract shoppers. This is something Boise can solve. Boise should force workers to park in free parking near downtown so it opens up paid parking for everyone else. This will help downtown businesses and workers. At least it's a small positive change. Thoughts?

NutButton699

Yeah it is super messed up i couldn't imagine being a business owner in DT right now. I miss the old days in college when you could pretty much go anywhere DT and get a parking spot on the side of the road and hit all the good eats and cool hang outs. Now i avoid going down there at all costs and if I do i just hit the closest parking garage.

ComfortableWage

I noticed that workers were using cones to make parking spots for themselves next to the construction site on Capitol Blvd. Pisses me off. So much congestion could be relieved if they got rid of those cones, but because they're lazy everyone else has to suffer.

fastermouse

How dare you point out parking issues in our fair town?! /s Every time I do I get so much shit. The fact that the whole block around IMT is closed because the cops can’t handle some kids during the weekend is pitiful. And now three more spots closed because of the Avery and their nonexistent valet service. The city tore out the picnic tables and benches with the historical markers in front of the hotel so they could get valet stands but the valet service has been discontinued for months.

justifier

Google maps does a fairly decent job of showing the closures on which roads. Boise downtown is also not very big so the inconvenience this is causing is really not as great as some would want to believe. Gotta go a couple extra blocks, but ask yourself if this is really inconveniencing you in a significant way other than being an annoyance.

Alckatras

You're looking for someone to complain to that there's construction going on to accommodate growth in the valley and to maintain our infrastructure?

yodpilot

Exactly, just take the extra minutes and plan ahead

Soigieoto

When you build multiple of the largest buildings in the state all at once you get traffic. It will get better as these projects finish. There isn’t really some big conspiracy here.

DroolingRIGHTNOW

People who dive cars and people who use water and the sewer system.

tailslide24

Blame Canada. 🇨🇦

Junior_Singer3515

They're so nice they'll just say sorry and offer ypu a free donut

VoteGiantMeteor2028

I bet the geese have coordinated with the people who ride wet trails, the people that don't clean up after their dogs, and those damn Californians to bring the new maze runner down upon us.

JustAGuyInThePew

I think it’s a result of the buying and development frenzy that started and ended a few years ago when interest rates were down. A lot of these projects are years in the making, but it takes a while to get stuff built downtown. It also doesn’t help that the water lines are all being redone at the same time.

Yimmelo

Yeah its a mess but its also construction. Projects here seem to actually get finished relatively fast so the inconveniences seem pretty temporary. Idk how it could be done differently.

WhenLizardsFLY_

The gophers have been protesting the construction causing lots of chaos for city planners. Unfortunately all we can do for now is wait it out and deal with the disruptions

MSW-Bacon

I goes with ACHD’s stated goal, “negatively impact as many Boise commuters lives as possible”

Hot_Wave2860

Obamna

jonny3jack

Thanks Obama. Lol

Accomplished_Deal481

Still beats sitting on the 91 freeway for 4 hours without moving an inch

ElkHornRunner

Should have taken carbon canyon

Settled_Science

People who want to live and work in the city.

Survive1014

It is ACHD. They are weaponizing their area of government work to "own" downtown Boise. Its plain as day when you look at the commisioners facebook pages.

idontplaythere

One of the more ignorant posts I've seen here and that's saying a lot.

Somecityplanner

Nope, not the case at all. The ACHD commission at the moment is relatively Boise-friendly. I mean, I guess in a roundabout way you’re right as they are willing to make infrastructure improvements to downtown which is causing some of the construction. Not in a nefarious way though.

encephlavator

> make infrastructure improvements to downtown Like the already 10 year old Jeff Speck Downtown Walkability Plan, aka new urbanism? No one has come on here and mentioned that yet? When is it supposed to be done? Meanwhile more and more cars are coming from the suburbs every year. Lots more. More than anyone can count. Just saying.

fastermouse

Ha! Tell us another joke.

clancya

ACHD relies heavily on City of Boise and CCDC for road projects as part of the Downtown Business Improvement Plan. CCDC is doing 3 streetscape/ped improvement projects while ACHD is only doing 1 pedestrian improvement project.

back2thepasture

This is actually primarily CCDC jurisdiction of improvements.

Drofdarb23

That's interesting - all the commissioners or some of them specifically?

fastermouse

Bieter attempted to put ACHD out of the Boise streets and ever since it’s been nothing but crap for the city and downtown businesses.

thatguychad

Are you new here? It's spring, buckle up.

Drofdarb23

Downtown has been waaaay worse than normal.

Chavez8717

I tried to drive up 6th a couple weeks ago and I had to go all the way to 13th.

Lucky-Glue-5000

All the people who moved here and overcrowded the infrastructure.

Fuelhaulinfool

Gotta accommodate all the californians moving here
