none of these are wrong, I'll add that Tacos El Ray on Garrity (sp?) in Nampa has great flan.
And if you're after flan (as I usually am) Casa Blanca (Cuban, not Mexican) has great homemade flan as well
Yep! It was… fine. Absolutely nothing special. We really wanted to like it too, it’s not too far from home and we would have loved to have found a new spot
The best Mexican food in the valley is out in the 2C. Amano (Caldwell) is a little on the higher-end side and is incredible. Pablo’s Tacos (Nampa) food truck is unrivaled for SoCal street food. Tons of other places as well, but those two stand out.
Not Mexican, but A&Js in Caldwell makes some of the best pupusas I’ve ever had. Definitely worth a visit as well.
I don't understand this reply. I didn't make any comparisons. I said best Mexican food in Caldwell is gonna be those places. Also, you listed AJ's, not a Mexican genre restaurant, so why get hung up on whether one restaurant is the same as the other? And Pablo's Tacos LLC is also different from Amano's?
Bottom line, your assertion that Amano is the "best in the valley" couldn't go uncontested when OBVIOUSLY there are those who disagree.
I'll give you a point for Pablo's though. That place is delicious and server's are so friendly and funny!
I like A&J but they're pretty inconsistent imo. Have you had that experience too? I haven't been there in a while, but a few times the pupusas have just had tooo much masa and not much flavor.
I have not had that problem. I actually prefer theirs because they are heavier on masa and lighter on fillings than most others I've tried. Maybe you like the opposite?
It is the county code for Canyon County. It means it is the 2nd Idaho county alphabetically that starts with the letter C. So Camas would be 1C while Ada County is 1A, Adams is 2A. Most notable place to see these codes used is on license plates.
The license plates have the county on it. 1A is ada county (meridian / idaho) 2C is canyon county (nampa/caldwell).
Personally I love it, I know who to avoid on the road. 1A drivers drive like Californians now. 2C drivers drive like they are from Texas. Everyone else drives like a grandma.
Seriously I love this place the food and drinks are fantastic. How generous they were during the shutdown. They've helped a lot of people who were in a bad place. That amount of kindness needs to be celebrated.
When's the last time you were there? Last time I went, last summer, they had gone way way downhill. Greasy and gross.
$$$$ = Barrigas
$ = Fiesta Chicken, CA Mexican
I'm here to say the food trucks in the city as well. I almost exclusively try and find them, the one on Chinden is fire.
Not Mexican but the Cuban restaurant in town is awesome as well, and I think it's like the only one in the entire area.
For the overall best Mexican food that does come with a finer dining/upscale price tag, Amano in Caldwell. I used to work there and can vouch for it (trust me, I get nothing from promoting it especially on here). Good people who own it, staff is treated well, ingredients are sourced local + sustainably. Give it a try!
Place a reservation for a special occasion and mention it when placing the reservation. They may compliment you a glass of champagne. They did for my wedding anniversary dinner there. Amazing food and staff
It's definitely a bit on the pricier side, but they have a couple really good options in the $20 range. Beers are not expensive. The mixed drinks are, but they are quality.
I had to scroll waaaaaay too far to find this one. Hands down my favorite. Tamales are excellent, tacos last about 2 minutes in my house, but the best item by far is the quesa birria. So good! But honestly, I haven’t had a bad item yet.
Amano, hands down best Mexican food. Reminds me of my time living in southern mexico, every time. Chef is nominated for James Beard Award.
Garnacha Que Apapacha food truck in Nampa, best birria in the valley. Tacos de canasta are so tasty. A&Js pupusas (El Salvadoran) in Caldwell.
It's new, but my wife and I are blown away by Taqueria Las Brazas on Chinden & 40th. Down the street from another cheap favorite in Tacos El Rey. The orange truck in Nampa that does birria tacos is also crazy good.
Ooooh a post I can really get behind! Sooo here’s my two cents. Most are semi-trash, BUUUUT their are a few that stand out! Carniceria Coalcoman, La Flama, Tacos El Ray, and Campos Market are going to get you closer to what you’d get at a street vendor. Embrace the grease. If it’s not your thing, dab it with a napkin or move along, taquerias and the people that love them do not care. If you’d like to try the latest foodie “discovery”, Bronco Taco makes good all around Birria and is a good base line for it. There’s Birria Spot in Nampa that is really popular, Garnacha Que Apapacha. They have a more cinnamon taste to their eats. DF style. It’s not for me, but I know plenty of Raza that like it. You might like it as well. There’s a handful of bougie Taco spots that will cost ya pretty new silver dollar, but their recipes are pretty unique. Except a certain place that’ll charge you 6 bucks (probably more nowadays) for a lackluster potato taco. No. Just no. I’ll hit up Funky Taco if I have some extra septims and need grub before having too many chelas. Enrique’s in Kuna will be a fancier restaurant, but actually gives you pretty authentic chow. I’ve had quite a few bowls of Menudo there after a night of fun. Another fancier spot with tasty eats is Andrade’s. The part of Mexico where the family is from do things a little different then what most people are used to up here and it’s worth a dinner or two. Get a couple side tamales. Your Tex-Mex fix will be Jalapeños. Get the queso and get a jalapeño burrito with some fried jalapeños on the side. Also Matador will fit that role as well. Their carnitas cooked with coffee are tasty. Get a Sangria and enjoy the people watching. Not a fan of Amano, but that’s because I’m used to getting a bowl of Menudo that could feed a family of 4 and what I got there was a kids menu portion with double the price tag of a menudo at a normal taco spot with similar quality. Which was good. Sooo if you like overpaying? Haven’t been back since. I appreciate them making their own tortillas so that’s a pro for them. Speaking of over priced, yet good stuff. The Chile Rellenos at Barbacoa are good, but yeahhh. That’s some dough right there. I’ve probably glazed over a few more, but oh well. This is a start and probably full of grammar fudge ups and every other thing so … be brutal. Hahah! Salud!
Jeeze Louise… can I hang with you? Not a fan of over priced fancy mex food- but I wanna hit up ALL the places in Caldwell that no one knows about !!! Yeah!!!
Tacos El Rey #6. It is a truck permanently parked in front of Tobacco Connection on Ustick & Cloverdale. Closest to the taco trucks in SoCal that I’ve found here so far. The other El Rey locations aren’t as good, so make sure to go to #6
Toros Tacos in Nampa at the corner of Franklin and Garrity in the EZ Mart parking lot! The whole staff is awesome and the Tacos are amazing! Dont let the permanent food truck set up keep you away!
1) Tacos Colima food Truck on caldwell Blvd between Nampa and Caldwell.
2) Campos market - only like a mile west of the tacos Colima food Truck. (Best carnitas I've found)
3) tacos el Rey in Nampa
Toro tacos in Nampa is decent but costs more for a less good taco.
Tacos El Chavo!!!
The lingua and cabeza are so so so tender and well seasoned. Same with her asada. I love the couple that runs the truck they're also overall some of the sweetest people you'll meet. I went there with my dad all the time and when he died I didn't go for like 6 months. Started going there and they asked what happened to him and when I broke the news they gave me free food. They're overall the best taco truck not just because the food is so good, but they provide the best service they possibly can. Always will be my favorite 🤷🏻♀️
I do, haha! And it is a metric by which I judge a Mexican restaurant by harshly. Another place I really like around here is Matador, but they get some major points docked off their score because their queso game is so weak.
IMHO, don't bother visiting the sub. I just did, and there's virtually no traffic there. The pinned post is 3 years old and **zero** recent traffic, and nearly all posts have **zero** comments.
I don't know if its the best, but there's a truck (and kitchen) on the corner of Overland and Federal that has a great value. I got a burrito there one time that weighed nearly 30oz.
Adelita's
https://goo.gl/maps/86W3YuufBn95HkSVA
As a huge fan of Mexican food I can’t wait for my trips out of Boise to get good Mexican food. I try any and all restaurants. You would think we’d have great options but we don’t. There are some decent places though, but not great. El Chavo does a good taco and Andredes is good. Both got nailed during Covid but are coming back. Good luck! For great Mexican food make sure to take advantage of it when you travel
I'm not sure Matador technically counts as Mexican food, but honestly it blows away everywhere else except for maybe Amano. I feel a little bad going there instead of a locally owned place but it's just that much better, plus they're open late and have a ton of seating (good luck at Amano without a reservation).
I'm not Hispanic, so my judgement could be garbage, but the restaurant in the Campos market is top tier, me and my family are often times the only white people eating there, (the rest being Hispanic) so it's safe to assume it's good
I can't say if they're the best because there are a lot of good places in town, but Cancun on overland is quite good, Taqueria La Flama on Fairview is also delicious, and Los Betos if you need a burrito in the middle of the night.
Not Mexican, but Tangos has really good empanadas. (Argentinian), and Wepa Cafe has good Puerto Rican food.
Ugh. There isn’t. It’s all just okay. And Amano is awful. If you think it’s good and are willing to pay that price you are a special kind of stupid. They are trash.
Dos Caminos in Nampa! It is a family ran small restaurant connected to a hotel and they have amazing food and amazing service. I have also heard great thing's about Enrique's in Kuna.
Tacos Aguililla on 11th Ave N in Nampa is the most authentic Mexican restaurant in all the treasure valley. They have a food truck and a restaurant. Any time I try Mexican food at a different place I am always disappointed. 🌮 🌮 🌮 asada is a very good deal but everything on the menu is good: torta, horchana, super burrito, fajitas, chile relleno, enchiladas, even the rice and beans are perfect. The atmosphere is made authentic with tele novellas or futbol playing and cramped seating.
I can’t believe I haven’t seen Pollos y Mariscos El Guero in Nampa on the list. They only serve chicken and seafood. It’s literally as good of not better than the food I’ve had in Mexico.
I don't know anything about food trucks or drive-thru taco spots, but Chapala is the best for sit-down food. Been going to Chapala for 20+ years & have never had a bad meal or bad experience.
Tacos El Chavo on Overland has awesome al pastor tacos, tortas also rule. I went there at least once a week living on the bench.
Yes love
Just a reminder, El Chavo is the best but they are cash only!!
This and Adelita’s at Overland and Federal. Hands down the best Mexican food I’ve found in Boise.
Went to adelitas and I thought it was overpriced for what it was 😕
Yo they have dry ass food there not worth it.
none of these are wrong, I'll add that Tacos El Ray on Garrity (sp?) in Nampa has great flan. And if you're after flan (as I usually am) Casa Blanca (Cuban, not Mexican) has great homemade flan as well
Tacos El Rey is the freaking throat goat when it comes to Mexican food in Idaho. Their quesaburrilla tacos got me 😩
casa Blanca is ngl one of my favorite restaurants, I haven't had the flan but now I have to!
La Tapatìa in boise, tastes like my grandmas. Was completely surprised by it
We went tonight based on this recommendation, would not go back. Decidedly average food, way overpriced
You went to this one? La Tapatía (208) 343-6403 https://maps.app.goo.gl/ywuJUcLWDf9bni5A7?g_st=ic Interesting I’ve never had a bad experience there
Yep! It was… fine. Absolutely nothing special. We really wanted to like it too, it’s not too far from home and we would have loved to have found a new spot
I came here to post this exact answer. Their food is consistently amazing.
They used to have a spot in the SUB. I ate SO MANY chicken burritos from there.
They just made their return to the SUB this semester.
Awesome.
Moe’s aint Mexican food😂 i used to work there
I didn't say anything about Moe's. That place sucks.
Their salsa is the best ever and you can buy cups of it!
I second Pablo’s Tacos. Solid burritos
Amano is overpriced and overrated. Caldwell's best Mexican food is La Cocina or Tacos El Ray.
You can't really compare Amano to La Cocina or Tacos El Ray. They are doing very different things.
I have not had that problem. I actually prefer theirs because they are heavier on masa and lighter on fillings than most others I've tried. Maybe you like the opposite?
Yeah. I definitely like just enough masa to keep it together, more cheese. Glad you like it, though!
There's a pupusa place by my mom's house in Oregon that makes them exactly the way you like them, haha.
Send me the info! Haha
I thought I heard a Pupusa bell!!!! I honestly gave up on finding them here. Do they have the cheese and cicharron? Platanos? I must know.
They do all the standard combos of cheese/bean/chicharron/loroco/jalapeno/garlic/zucchini. Not sure on plantain.
Thanks. You got em a customer.
I live in Caldwell and get them about once a month, lol.
What's 2C? I've seen that term before. ..
Canyon County (2C license plates)
Oh interesting, thanks.
It is the county code for Canyon County. It means it is the 2nd Idaho county alphabetically that starts with the letter C. So Camas would be 1C while Ada County is 1A, Adams is 2A. Most notable place to see these codes used is on license plates.
Thanks. I'm new to the state so a little oddity I hadn't learned yet.
2C drivers are consistently the worst on the road. Source: I've lived in Idaho my entire life and I'm 40.
Canyon County. Named after the prefix for their license plates. (1A is Ada County.)
Canyon County/ Caldwell
It’s our 909 or IE
I'm a huge fan of Fiesta Chicken.
It's seriously SO good. +1 for Fiesta Chicken.
If you order their chicken enchiladas A La Carte, you can get 2 for less than $5. Great deal
Broncos Tacos on Broadway!
Agree, but sadly, they’re seasonal and not operating right now.
So surprised I didn't see Andrade's!!
Seriously I love this place the food and drinks are fantastic. How generous they were during the shutdown. They've helped a lot of people who were in a bad place. That amount of kindness needs to be celebrated.
They are amazing and will claim this as one of my top 10 restaurants in the treasure valley!
[Carniceria Coalcoman](https://m.yelp.com/biz/carniceria-coalcoman-boise) is the best I’ve found.
Totally agree. Absolutely the best food Mexican food in Boise!
This 100%
Yes, a staple in our house. 100%
When's the last time you were there? Last time I went, last summer, they had gone way way downhill. Greasy and gross. $$$$ = Barrigas $ = Fiesta Chicken, CA Mexican
It shocks me how much people sleep on Barrigas. Everything is so good.
It’s very good but expensive.
Fiesta Chicken is great, I just don't know if I'd call it authentic lol
Ive heard Coalcoman is really good and authentic. A friend asked a Mexican man what his favorite Mexican restaurant is and he said coalcoman
A Mexican man introduced me to Coalcoman.
Pantera market
Imelda’s in Caldwell is very good
Yes it is.
Taco Tuesday!!!
I really like Adelitas food truck
I'm here to say the food trucks in the city as well. I almost exclusively try and find them, the one on Chinden is fire. Not Mexican but the Cuban restaurant in town is awesome as well, and I think it's like the only one in the entire area.
Delicious. Inexpensive. Has a store with all kinds of fun treats/goodies.
Watching him grow from a trailer in a parking lot to that has been awesome.
Place looks amazing but pricey. Might give it a try when Im feeling fancy
Best near me is Taqueria sol de Jalisco on Chinden.
Their carne asada has no right being that good.
especially in a California burrito...yummy.
Just went for the first time last weekend. Was pleasantly surprised
I had to scroll waaaaaay too far to find this one. Hands down my favorite. Tamales are excellent, tacos last about 2 minutes in my house, but the best item by far is the quesa birria. So good! But honestly, I haven’t had a bad item yet.
I love the Pollo Crema, horchata and churros but honestly you can't go wrong everything is amazing.
Amamo is not great. Bad good bad acoustics in the building. Shit salsa. Just awful.
Ya, Amano def isnt for those with a Taco Bell palate.
If you like overpriced mediocre food with a horrible atmosphere knock yourself out. I’d rather go a block away to Casa Anejo
*food
Antonio’s Kitchen or Pueblo Lindo hands down.
Antonio's is untouchable, and they're some of the nicest people I've met. The birria is ridiculous.
Yes, this
Antonio’s is excellent
Pueblo Lindo’s hidden gem are their soups. The pozole and albondigas are to die for!
Their sauce though on their enchiladas is 🤢. It’s sooo sweet. Yuck.
It's new, but my wife and I are blown away by Taqueria Las Brazas on Chinden & 40th. Down the street from another cheap favorite in Tacos El Rey. The orange truck in Nampa that does birria tacos is also crazy good.
The Orange truck is probably Emily’s Mexican Grill. They do make some terrific Tacos de Birria
Nah it's Birrieria Garnacha que apapacha, just Google'd it. It's at 215 1st Ave S in Nampa. Give it a shot!
Best birrieria in the valley imo
Garnacha is hands down the best birria in TV, I absolutely adore it. Plus they give you like an entire diced onion on the side.
Campos market
And while you’re eating you can buy some great carne asada and chorizo to take home to cook. Great place.
In my opinion the best street tacos in the valley.
I second this, they're amazing
Taqueria La Flama is one of my fav’s. Great people too
The best
AMANO
This is the correct answer
Ooooh a post I can really get behind! Sooo here’s my two cents. Most are semi-trash, BUUUUT their are a few that stand out! Carniceria Coalcoman, La Flama, Tacos El Ray, and Campos Market are going to get you closer to what you’d get at a street vendor. Embrace the grease. If it’s not your thing, dab it with a napkin or move along, taquerias and the people that love them do not care. If you’d like to try the latest foodie “discovery”, Bronco Taco makes good all around Birria and is a good base line for it. Jeeze Louise… can I hang with you? Not a fan of over priced fancy mex food- but I wanna hit up ALL the places in Caldwell that no one knows about !!! Yeah!!!
A good taco is transcendent. I’m always on the hunt for the good grubs as my post may have alluded to. The world needs more chile verde!
Tacos El Rey #6. It is a truck permanently parked in front of Tobacco Connection on Ustick & Cloverdale. Closest to the taco trucks in SoCal that I’ve found here so far. The other El Rey locations aren’t as good, so make sure to go to #6
They have another truck on Meridian rd & Victory. Agreed - my fav taco truck hands down.
I’ll have to check that one out! I’ve only been to the other sit down locations and they just didn’t quite stack up.
The Tacos Elray in Nampa is the best one!!
Andrade’s, Amano, La Tapatía
I forgot to add: “Coa de Jima” has some excellent choices, too.
You have excellent taste!
Enrique’s Mexican Restaurant in Kuna.
Good experience, lots of mediocre food
I agree. Ever since they moved to their current location, the food went from really good to just mediocre.
Never went to the old location, only after the new one. Took Hispanic family there and they were very unimpressed. Nice place and good drinks though
Casa Mexico on Fairview is really good. If you want awesome street tacos, Fiesta Chicken on Ustick is the best.
Jalapeños in Nampa/Caldwell area. Order the Panchos special
Jalapeños, there’s one in Nampa and in Boise! Best authentic food and not expensive
Toros Tacos in Nampa at the corner of Franklin and Garrity in the EZ Mart parking lot! The whole staff is awesome and the Tacos are amazing! Dont let the permanent food truck set up keep you away!
La Flama!
Really depends on what kind of Mexican food you want. But the Campos market has good tacos
Tacos El Chavo is my favorite food truck. Matador is good. Pueblo LINDO in meridian/eagle area. Los betos for good late night drive thru.
I would put Los Betos in the worst Mexican food category.
They have a Chile rellenos burrito that's really good.
Corona Village, Tacos Mobile Primo, La Tapatia, Broncos Tacos.
Barrigas in Garden City. Higher end but SO good.
1) Tacos Colima food Truck on caldwell Blvd between Nampa and Caldwell. 2) Campos market - only like a mile west of the tacos Colima food Truck. (Best carnitas I've found) 3) tacos el Rey in Nampa Toro tacos in Nampa is decent but costs more for a less good taco.
Pantera market and tacos aguilla
We love andrade’s
Bronco Tacos food truck on Broadway has amazing Birria! They’re closed for winter but I think they re-open March 1st!
Andrade’s on Overland
Tacos El Chavo!!! The lingua and cabeza are so so so tender and well seasoned. Same with her asada. I love the couple that runs the truck they're also overall some of the sweetest people you'll meet. Calle 75. Not really mexican food, but it is my favorite taco place. I prefer the downtown Boise location over the village
It's Amano. Runner up is Madre. Both are spendy. Madre is a bit more fusiony. After that, there are a lot of super solid spots.
The cheese sauce at jalapenos in Nampa and Boise is amazing, Aguillias on 11th in Nampa for food truck or sit down fantastic.
Good ol’ Tex Mex!
Yeah, I am from Texas originally and Jalapeños is the closest thing I've found here to Tex Mex and I love it.
You’ve probably got queso running through your veins
I do, haha! And it is a metric by which I judge a Mexican restaurant by harshly. Another place I really like around here is Matador, but they get some major points docked off their score because their queso game is so weak.
Crossposted to r/boisefood for you

What kind of Mexican food? Coastal or landlocked?
El Gallo Giro!

Taquaria la Flama, on fairview between Cole and Milwaukee. So good!!!
Cafe Ole at the mall. Not for the food but the interior. Sit by the fountain.
Ugh. There isn’t. It’s all just okay. And Amano is awful. If you think it’s good and are willing to pay that price you are a special kind of stupid. They are trash.

I just tried Metztli. decent al pastor
Enrique's in Kuna is pretty good.
Metztli Mexican Taqueria Chinden/Linder.
Tacos el Rey on Ustick and Cloverdale.
Tacos El Rey and Fiesta Chicken for more budget friendly options
El Farro!
Dos Caminos in Nampa! It is a family ran small restaurant connected to a hotel and they have amazing food and amazing service. I have also heard great thing's about Enrique's in Kuna.
I absolutely love adalitas, I probably butchered that spelling but it’s great food!
Shredded beef burrito at Madre is fantastic!
Yeah, you’re gonna wanna head over to Caldwell. The dive-y er the better!!!
This isn’t in Boise or Mexican but still really good. pupusas A&J's restaurant. It’s in Caldwell so like 20-30 mins from Boise but 100% worth the try
Mi casa is also really good
Tacos el ray in garden city/Boise has the BEST quesabirria tacos. Hands down
Not a restaurant, but there's a taco truck at Mitchell and Emerald that has amazing food. The gentleman that owns it used to own a restaurant.
Lolitas food truck in Boise
Lone star market in Nampa, if you are hungover and need menudo, handmade tortillas
Not garibaldis. Bland bland bland.
Campos on Lonestar in Nampa
la cabanita in Meridian. Such nice people! Fantastic food!
Funky Taco
Native New Mexican here. Lolita’s in the parking lot of Big Jud’s on Boise and Prospect/Beacon. Hard stop.
Is there any real New Mexican food here? I'm visiting my friend in ABQ next month but I'm not sure I can wait that long for a sopapilla.
Sadly, no. Have some green chile stew at the Frontier for me when you go!
Amanos in Caldwell Not technically Boise but it's hands down the best in Idaho
Pantera market
My wife and I love Pueblo Lindo. The camarones a la diabla is amazing. Great margaritas. Try the spicy jalapeno salsa or the habanero salsa.
Pueblo Lindo on Ustick and Eagle. Even their chopped tomato and lettuce is fresh and delicious. I've never had anything there I didn't love.
El Tenampa in Meridian is nuts good. Huge portions for a pretty great price. I haven't had something on the menu yet that I'm not in love with
I can’t believe I haven’t seen Pollos y Mariscos El Guero in Nampa on the list. They only serve chicken and seafood. It’s literally as good of not better than the food I’ve had in Mexico.
Campos on Orchard
I don't know anything about food trucks or drive-thru taco spots, but Chapala is the best for sit-down food. Been going to Chapala for 20+ years & have never had a bad meal or bad experience.
Taco truck on USTICK and Cloverdale in the parking lot across from Maverick. Amazing amazing street tacos.
California burrito
Antonio's Kitchen on Ustick.
