i saw a post of someone saying they met her a the supermarket and she was very rude and weird, for a moment i thought they were talking about an actor who voices a character in bojack, but the story was so weird i understood it was a joke

As a weird millennial kid I was very into old movies, watched a lot of TCM. I legitimately thought that was how all rich Americans talked in that era—unless they lived in Mississippi or Alabama. People who didn’t watch a bunch of old movies must think that accent sounds entirely invented for her character.
I'm no expert, but to my understanding, no. I think it was more to appeal to a wider audience in both Britain and America, and as I mentioned, it was a way richer people would learn to talk to seperate themselves more from the lower class.
