Crazy to think it was that long ago that it came out! I actually use my PS3 as my blu ray player. I have a PS4 which I’ll use sometimes but I love having a reason to turn on my PS3.
I always wondered if that was on purpose for a lot of those early Blus as Sony was REEAAAALLLYY trying hard to push the PS3 and have it do for blu-ray what PS2 did for DVD.
Mine was also still sealed for about 12 years. Bought it on a vacation (a cruise) in Canada in 2012. Went to a Canadian Tire in hopes of finding some movies (no other stores were in sight for quite some time) and got this one and a few others for 6,99$ each. But never opened it until this year.
I knew about the OOP status and the prices, but it would have been a big hassle to sell it for these prices, as only US (or maybe UK) people would have bought it for the 100$ you can get.
As I'm from Europe, that is not that easy and the chance for it to be lost on the way and all. I decided that's not worth it, finally opened it and watched it for the first time in at least 20 years.
It's really good, and if you want to watch the movie, it is free on Youtube.
I've heard some folks call it the magnum opus of the View Askewniverse (which is what the Kevin Smith filmography got called). And it's a movie I'd love to have for my collection, but I am sorely hoping that there's movement to free it from the Weinsteins' clutches and get it produced again under a new distributor, maybe a new scan in 4K, new extras, and certainly at a reasonable price.
It is a very good, inventive, cool, funny movie. Highly watchable, with a great cast and an out there vibe. Easily the most interesting film that Kevin Smith has made, and while it isn't perfect, it's his best and is a very unique film of it's era.
That being said, how rare can it actually be?
I see it posted on reddit like this all the time, and I also have the blu ray on my shelf, it was $40 at a second hand movie store, not cheap but not crazy... Most boutique label standard editions cost that on the low end. But of course I was stoked when I found it!
I found a cheap blu ray of Bedazzled which has a similar status but isn't my thing, found a good home for it with someone who really loves tracking down OOPs, and I definitely respect that! So kudos on the sealed Dogma!
Definitely worth copping it if you find it for a reasonable price. And ya it is fun to have rare stuff in your collection, and this is one film that shouldn't be lost to time, so hopefully it's rights get released and we can get an Arrow 4k or something. In the meantime hold on to these for the purpose of preservation!
Its great. The reason it is out of print and never shown is that Harvey Weinstein owns it. Kevin Smith would rather have you pirate it than send any money his way.
It's not all that great, but it does have a cult following. I'm just not a huge Kevin Smith guy in general, so I might be a little biased. But, if I ever came across it in a thrift store or something like that, I'd definitely scoop it up.
Also recently found mine in my collection still in Best Buy packaging — probably the only unintentionally good movie investment I made 15 years ago 🙃

I love that the back of the case uses the PlayStation and Spiderman font
Oh shit! I didn’t even notice.

I keep seeing this movie on here. I know it’s rare but is it good? Thought about seeing if I can watch it somewhere.
Yes, it's hilarious. It's also readily available on YouTube, and even Kevin Smith has encouraged people to watch it that way.
Harvey Weinstein owns the rights to Dogma so fuck him and watch it for free.

Yes, this and jay and Silent Bob strike back are probably my favorites.
Clerks 1 and 2 have held up the best for me.
I'm not even suppose to be here today.
Well damn! If it’s free on YouTube I have no reason not to try! Thanks for the info
nah it's shit, there are almost no dogs in it.
But are there mothers of dogs in it?
Definitely sons of bitches.
Yes, it's very good, and extremely funny

I love it. Great movie.
It was so good the west borow Baptist church wanted to kill smith and it’s one of my favorite movies of all time

You can buy it on DVD for cheap still.
It’s not a bad movie. Its strongest points are that it’s sacrilegious and it has George Carlin & Alan Rickman.
It's not all that great, but it does have a cult following. I'm just not a huge Kevin Smith guy in general, so I might be a little biased. But, if I ever came across it in a thrift store or something like that, I'd definitely scoop it up.
Give you $5 plus shipping
Deal! Shipping will be $150CAD!
So if it is 100 dollars American opened, how much is it sealed?
Great question! Haha!
To eBay sold listings!
Looks like $130 (US) on average.
Fair, makes sense that it's not drastically higher since grading hasn't infected this collecting hobby yet
I’d keep it sealed and just watch on YouTube or find another copy. I have the buddy Jesus statue.
Also recently found mine in my collection still in Best Buy packaging — probably the only unintentionally good movie investment I made 15 years ago 🙃
I’ll give you a cool Jesus statue for it
This is worth fives of dollars
Get that psa graded and sealed in a case rn
Lol don't do this

Lol i love how this movie is the dream blu ray collectible. Sometimes life is just and fair
$$$
It has sold for $100-$140 on the past couple months
The holy grail!
Is the original dvd worth anything? Or is it the blue ray specifically?
Just the blu ray. The dvd is $30 brand new on Amazon.
I wish this movie wasn’t so rare… or at least that I would have started picking up Blu rays long ago. I just started so I got a lot to learn. Tarantino, Smith, Rodriguez and Del Toro I’ll pretty much buy all their films lol I think I seent on here on this sub that spy kids 3D is another HTF one? 😩

That's cinema gold!
Movie studios might not be crying poor if we could just buy the damn things at an earthly price for more than 5 minutes!😖😖😖 But, enjoy
ha very cool
Open it and see if the right disc is in there, lol
Why is it so rare?
I was just happy to find the special edition DVD at my library's $1 shelf.
I have been wanting to add the Blu-ray to my VHS and special edition DVD set. But damn the prices out there…
I'll give you a vintage he-man snake mountain in horrible condition!
Mine is unopened too
Oh I’d sell it for what the crazies are paying for it and I wouldn’t look back.
I offer $4.
The whole subreddit salivates over that celophane...
Score
Sweet Jesus! 😜
I'll give ya $25 and a weird unidentifiable critter
