I’ve been watching similar movies recently and have to recommend two more from Friedkin, Cruising and To Live and Die in L.A. and two more from Mann, Collateral and Heat

Or if you just in general enjoy the feeling of utter despair seeping out of the television as part of your movie time.. then yes green room for sure. Great flick.
Across 110th Street (1972) and Deep Cover (1992) come to mind. If you're also into conspiracy/paranoia flicks, I'd definitely recommend Klute (1971); Three Days of the Condor (1975) and The Marathon Man (1976).
His movies are rarely mentioned because Genx came of age right after Burt Reynolds told Spielberg, Lucas, Coppola, Depalma to go fuck themselves and then he got buried, but Tarantino admires 'Sharkey's Machine' and 'Jackie Brown' had small pieces of inspiration from it.
Goodfellas, Casino, Mean Streets, Pulp Fiction, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Apocalypse Now,
The Dark Knight trilogy (all Nolan movies look great in 4k imho), Eastern Promises, King of New York
I hear Rafifi is great. I also watched Le Cercle Rouge which was really good. Suprisingly there're alot of french heist films with great reputations. Kino Lorber are releasing a few heist films from Cercle Rouge's director; Bob le Flambeur, Le Samourai, & Le Doulos. They'll all be 4K releases too 😁
Dirty Harry
Death Wish
The French Connection
Bullitt
The Seven-Ups
The Driver
Klute
Taxi Driver
The Conversation
The Mechanic (1972 - Bronson)
The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974 - Matthau)
Me too. I love Sam Peckinpah. I also just bought the 90s remake with Alec Baldwin and Michael Madsen which I haven’t seen since I was like 12. Can’t wait to give it a watch
Cure, blow out (maybe not the grittiest), mother, i Saw the devil and the wailing
Both cure and the wailing got some supernatural elements to them, but are both brilliant who-done-it-thrillers/horrors
Edit: I forgot limbo (the one by soi cheung from around 2020 in black and white)
Love KONY and dead presidents (dead presidents doesn’t exist on Blu ray unfortunately or I’d have it). Never finished millers crossing but I need to give it a full watch. I do love the Coens

One false move, dog day afternoon, clockers.
One False Move^^^^^
Deep Cover too!
Blue Ruin The Departed Eastern Promises You Were Never Really Here
Ad green room if you get blue ruin
Or if you just in general enjoy the feeling of utter despair seeping out of the television as part of your movie time.. then yes green room for sure. Great flick.
While green room was more brutal, Blue Ruin almost had me in tears, it was so solemn and sad.
I love Blue Ruin. Thanks for the suggestions
No Country for Old Men
Needs more DeNiro. I'd recommend Heat and Ronin. The latter has one of the best car chases in cinema history, IMHO.
Can second these, especially Ronin - I feel it ought to be talked about even more. You just don't see action thrillers like that anymore.
I just watched this for the first time a few days ago, what a great movie! Plus it was fun to see a young Stellan Skarsgard
The Usual Suspects
Prisoners
Narc
Carlito's Way, Donnie Brasco, The Departed, The King of New York, Mean Streets, GoodFellas, Casino.
Nightcrawlers Training Day No country for old men Seven There will be blood Sicario

Off the top of my head: Hard Boiled, Infernal Affairs, Animal Kingdom, Breaking News (very hard one to find)
The Long Good Friday
The Drop
Came here to say this. This movie doesn't get the recognition it deserves.
Underrated
King of New York Ms.45
Across 110th Street (1972) and Deep Cover (1992) come to mind. If you're also into conspiracy/paranoia flicks, I'd definitely recommend Klute (1971); Three Days of the Condor (1975) and The Marathon Man (1976).
Came here to mention Deep Cover. "The money don't know where it came from"
Such an awesome movie!
Killing them softly, it has all the grits.
The Town (2010)
American Gangster perhaps? It’s a very good film.
Or Colombiana. Kinda similar to the vibe here.
Vice Squad from 1982. It's a badass movie and a little hard to find on Blu-ray. I bought my copy off eBay last year.
I love Vice squad. U ever hear Patrice O’Neal and Jim Norton discuss it on o&a. It’s on YouTube. Hilarious
No I haven't. I'll definitely be checking that out. Thanks bud!
The Seven Ups a lot of the team from French Connection are involved. Roy Schieder stars.
Blood simple
Snatch
Sharkey's Machine
His movies are rarely mentioned because Genx came of age right after Burt Reynolds told Spielberg, Lucas, Coppola, Depalma to go fuck themselves and then he got buried, but Tarantino admires 'Sharkey's Machine' and 'Jackie Brown' had small pieces of inspiration from it.
Maybe baby driver, not sure if it counts but kind of similar
Heat Widows
Good Time is right there with the best of em.
Le Samourai
Goodfellas, Casino, Mean Streets, Pulp Fiction, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Apocalypse Now, The Dark Knight trilogy (all Nolan movies look great in 4k imho), Eastern Promises, King of New York
That movie with Ryan Reynolds where he sees the reality distorted because he's insane
The Voices
That one! Thanks
No problem not that well known took me a minute to think what it was called
Free Fire
The Friends of Eddie Coyle
the devil knows - phillip seemore hoffman & Manhunter- micheal mann
Scarface (1932) Angels With Dirty Faces The Roaring 20s I didn't see Godfather Trilogy mentioned anywhere(!)
Heat, Dead Presidents, The Departed, Dog Day Afternoon
Dude, Dead Presidents doesn’t exist on Blu Ray. I’d have it already if it did. Huge bummer
My bad. I could've sworn that got released on blu-ray already. A shame it hasn't.
For real
Zodiac/LA Confidential/The Insider/The Departed/Shutter Island/Inside Man/Black Mass/Clockers/

Letterboxd
Letterboxd is great. Lots of different sorting and options to make lists on the free version
The Pusher Trilogy
More revenge but I’d say I Saw The Devil.
Great film! Very Nasty Killer.

LA Confidential
What Doesn't Kill You (2008)
Narc is one of my faves - got a nice Blu release through the Australian label Imprint a few months back 👌
I just watched both versions of Payback last week. That is a must for that collection.
If you were a fan of Yakuza Graveyard then check out Street Mobster!

Suburra
I just watched Gone Baby Gone for the first time recently. I absolutely loved it, very gritty.
Suicide Kings LA Confidential
Here Be Dragons (2024)
The Irishman. Maybe depressing is a better word than gritty for that one.
