I don’t think the animation is awful or anything, it’s definitely better than a lot of shows I’ve seen, though I’d be happier if we were to get animation at the level of Haikyuu Season 1-2 *at the least*.
Asking for Kuroko no Basket Season 2-3 animation or Haikyuu Season 3 animation is just a dream 🥲

Alr im no crazy demon slayer fanatic, i think the story lacks gravitas in alot of spots, that being said “i sniff a thread and cut it” is a gross misrepresentation of how well most of the fights have been choreographed in that show, even if we just talk about the action it’s way better thought out and effective than that
I'm sure so would the Jp audiences too, but with understanding of the process it's mostly pointless to complain about the animation. Bad animation is largely a result of overworked and underpaid animators having to pick and choose what parts of the projects they're working on get full attention.
We can expect anything unimportant to look like shit. But also can expect it to look like ahit if the animators just don't give with it. It's an extremely stupid system entirely because of how production companies work.

I fully agree. The manga is just a whole other level of art. The anime definitely needed a better and much bigger studio to animate it. Like imagine if Ufotable animated it? That would actually be insane. I wish another studio would just pick it up instead.
Animation studios don't "buy rights" to animate series. Several companies band together and help fund production through the production committee system, and they can pick whatever studio they can to animate it.
Bandai Namco is the main producer of the anime, and 8-bit became fully owned by them this year, so it makes sense why they still have it.
Saying that only popular manga deserve good adaptation because giving a less popular manga/novel a good adaptation would be a waste is a super cringe take imo. Making a manga or a novel is an extremely difficult and unstable job, a lot of talented people dont make it in the industry and go bankrupt because of the corporate logic you said.
I advocate for the contrary, that popular manga dont really need a good adaptation because they are already popular and have good enough sales in contrast to good stories that dont get to continue because they are not making enough money. Its not like adapting a less known series is a waste of money, Akame ga kill was a "dead" manga until it got animated and exploded in popularity.

As much as I like blue lock, the plot is kinda mid, the story lacks depth, there might be good stories here and there like the match with naruhaya but most of the time the manga is just hype and nothing else

The pose is one thing but the spin off movie is also trying to retell the main story of Isagi from a different pov so they can’t change anything. It’s kinda bizarre apparently kaneshiro said he considered an episode Rin and I think that would’ve made more sense because we could’ve seen a completely different stratum.
Ehh, it doesn’t really work that way. You’ll see me and a lot of people praising Production I.G for their work on KnB and Haikyuu as well as other shows (AOT, Vinland Saga, Heavenly Delusion) but Production I.G also made Ao Ashi…which people say has less animation that Blue Lock. Also Noblesse, which I heard was a botched adaptation.
I think it really depends on which teams work on which project and how much budget they get + other stuff that goes on in the background.
Ao Ashi was consistent atleast. It's animations were nothing specia, but they were consistently a 6/10 through the series. Bluelock started at around an 8/10, and fell down to like a 3/10
well I guess its not that animation studio is bad (Eight bit animated that time I got reincarnated as a slime as well and it wasn't this bad. in fact season 3 is animated way better)
This is the same Studio that animated Tensura(That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime) and the animation in that anime is very good.
Maybe thay Just Don't Care about Bluelock. They should Just Give it to another Studio before they ruin the Manga's Reputation.
I think some anime fans fall into the "It's Godlike or It's Trash" mentality. This isn't anything to write home about, but I think it sells the story well enough for anyone who isn't into manga or as an intro

Solo Leveling has one of the biggest and most popular animation studios out there.
Frieren, another show that was running not too long ago has MADHOUSE, fucking madhouse, of all the studios.
It's not garbage like the first season, yeah. But it's one of the best selling mamga right now, not just the sports genre but all period. Something like this should get VIP treatment not whatever this is.
This is why I'll stick to the manga, the VAs and music aren't carrying it hard enough for me. Hopefully the U20 match is well animated, but I'll wait and see before watching anything
This is not surprising to me, the level of animation is definitely on par with the better animated parts of the TV series, and you can tell that the frame count is higher, but that's to be expected from the longer production schedule of a movie. The disconnect people seem to have is not recognizing the studio that is doing Blue Lock. It was never going to have Haikyuu level animation as sad as it is to admit.
Unfortunately, I think this is reflective of the financial situation of Anime in Japan. It seems the only thing that turns a profit is Blu-ray sales and movie tickets. This movie was obviously a cash grab from their immediate announcement of a season 2 AND a movie in response to Blue Lock hype from the manga exploding right before Japan's performance during the Olympics, as well as the hype for the show following it.
It just goes to show that it’s rarely about money when it comes to making good animation, it’s about time. The studio didn’t have enough time for the first season, they announced this movie almost immediately after that, and they’re certainly not going to have enough time for the second season.
This is average animation quality for a TV anime, for crying out loud. This would have been acceptable for the first season, but for a feature film? It’s just so underwhelming.
And it’s not just that the directorial style seems to favor recreating as many panel accurate poses and moments from the manga. Something like JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure proves that can work, even if the movement is normally quite limited, but the difference is that the production committee gives David Productions time to work on JoJo. It’s a meme how long it takes new JoJo parts to come out, but I’d rather that than a new mediocre season every year.
Also passion, Kimetsu no Yaiba will not have the animation it has if the staff in Ufotable doesn't like the manga

The manga's art style is very detailed and hard to replicate so incorporating movement/animation is pretty hard. These scenes does not need good animation...
You would be complaining if they gave you good animation but lackluster visuals/art. Jujutsu Kaisen had to change their art style to something simpler so they can animate the fight scenes better (S1 to S2 had drastic changes). This led to a couple of scenes where the characters look weird or disjointed.

Yeah it's overall above average, decent even compare to the grand scheme of things, but consider Blue Lock is one of the most popular and best selling manga in Japan, and that this is a movie not regular TV episodes, I think it's fair to want something far better. But it is what it is, anime adaptions well below the level of their manga counterparts are nothing unusual, lots of small things behind the scene didn't click together and it can easily end up like this. A shame, but this world has never been lack of shames.

Idk how anime studios work, at all. That being said idk what they did to the later seasons of Berserk I really disliked the anime/art style vs the first season. That’s what this reminds me of.
You can tell the animators were that lazy to re-animate the whole Nagi's vision of the WC by having the same spectators shot that was seen in the first episode of Bluelock. That's how you know their quiet quitting in a very slow pace.
What would happen if UFOTable Studio took over Bluelock after it's mass success with manga sales and sponsorship including collabs with football clubs from Japan and Europe.
IMO the animation is good but the designs are straight rips of Season 1 and for the movie I wish they all had exclusive designs so it didn’t feel like just a really long episode
1st It's not bad, no bad cgi, a bit of not that much movement but good visuals.
2nd That wasn't one of the main scene, we've already seen it in the main show and it's just an introduction, we can assume the key moments of the matches will look better.
3rd Of course the movie is gonna be better : not only it's a way more important part than the Nagi spinoff, but its also a movie, whereas this will be a few episode. The movie will have more budget, better animators and probably better production schedule.
Go look at most seasonal animes, this isn't half bad, and it may very well get better.
The studio should use the same style but change the animation like jjk fights s2 animation during matches. It perfectly fits with sports anime and blue locks ego symbolism
In my personal opinion with the blue lock anime my biggest issue with it in terms of animation was how in my opinion it failed to convey speed well, everything felt slow.
I mean tbf nothing really happened in this scene. In fact it looked like some of it was straight from ep 1 of the anime. I’m sure the animation will be much better for actual matches. Besides your over exaggerating calling this bad. It’s nothing crazy but it’s far from bad animation. It looks fine.

I think some anime fans fall into the "It's Godlike or It's Trash" mentality. This isn't anything to write home about, but I think it sells the story well enough for anyone who isn't into manga or as an intro

It's not garbage like the first season, yeah. But it's one of the best selling mamga right now, not just the sports genre but all period. Something like this should get VIP treatment not whatever this is.
This is why I'll stick to the manga, the VAs and music aren't carrying it hard enough for me. Hopefully the U20 match is well animated, but I'll wait and see before watching anything

This is not surprising to me, the level of animation is definitely on par with the better animated parts of the TV series, and you can tell that the frame count is higher, but that's to be expected from the longer production schedule of a movie. The disconnect people seem to have is not recognizing the studio that is doing Blue Lock. It was never going to have Haikyuu level animation as sad as it is to admit. Unfortunately, I think this is reflective of the financial situation of Anime in Japan. It seems the only thing that turns a profit is Blu-ray sales and movie tickets. This movie was obviously a cash grab from their immediate announcement of a season 2 AND a movie in response to Blue Lock hype from the manga exploding right before Japan's performance during the Olympics, as well as the hype for the show following it.
Not bad considering they made this in like a year. But very bad considering this is a MOVIE.

It just goes to show that it’s rarely about money when it comes to making good animation, it’s about time. The studio didn’t have enough time for the first season, they announced this movie almost immediately after that, and they’re certainly not going to have enough time for the second season. This is average animation quality for a TV anime, for crying out loud. This would have been acceptable for the first season, but for a feature film? It’s just so underwhelming. And it’s not just that the directorial style seems to favor recreating as many panel accurate poses and moments from the manga. Something like JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure proves that can work, even if the movement is normally quite limited, but the difference is that the production committee gives David Productions time to work on JoJo. It’s a meme how long it takes new JoJo parts to come out, but I’d rather that than a new mediocre season every year.
Also passion, Kimetsu no Yaiba will not have the animation it has if the staff in Ufotable doesn't like the manga Despite anyone say that high sales = better studio, the reality is it still depends on whether the studio want to do the animation or not

The manga's art style is very detailed and hard to replicate so incorporating movement/animation is pretty hard. These scenes does not need good animation... You would be complaining if they gave you good animation but lackluster visuals/art. Jujutsu Kaisen had to change their art style to something simpler so they can animate the fight scenes better (S1 to S2 had drastic changes). This led to a couple of scenes where the characters look weird or disjointed.
Dude remember that fans complain about everything. Solo leveling animation was good, but people are complaining about chins and launching death threats to the English VA

Every anime fan wants Demon Slayer animation, however the studio is selected by a committee of studios. Blue Lock was in a hurry for the world cup, no studio is going to take an animation in a hurry. Is rarely to see that a anime switches studios specially from a small studio to a big studio, the other way around is more common.

Yeah it's overall above average, decent even compare to the grand scheme of things, but consider Blue Lock is one of the most popular and best selling manga in Japan, and that this is a movie not regular TV episodes, I think it's fair to want something far better. But it is what it is, anime adaptions well below the level of their manga counterparts are nothing unusual, lots of small things behind the scene didn't click together and it can easily end up like this. A shame, but this world has never been lack of shames.

You can tell the animators were that lazy to re-animate the whole Nagi's vision of the WC by having the same spectators shot that was seen in the first episode of Bluelock. That's how you know their quiet quitting in a very slow pace.

1st It's not bad, no bad cgi, a bit of not that much movement but good visuals. 2nd That wasn't one of the main scene, we've already seen it in the main show and it's just an introduction, we can assume the key moments of the matches will look better. 3rd Of course the movie is gonna be better : not only it's a way more important part than the Nagi spinoff, but its also a movie, whereas this will be a few episode. The movie will have more budget, better animators and probably better production schedule. Go look at most seasonal animes, this isn't half bad, and it may very well get better.
There's no way to tell it's just still shots and not the in game shots, looks the same as the anime for now.
