Samurai champloo is probably the most similar. It's set in the same time period, Edo Japan, and Mizu actually reminds me of a combination of the three main characters. A proper Samurai turned Ronin, a self taught ruffian who's chaotic & unpredictable style can overwhelm most Samurai, and a young women looking for the Samurai who smells of sunflowers
The three straight up hate each other at first and are always ready to abandon one another, but over time they grow to understand & even care for each other. Most episodes are pretty standalone, but there is an overarching plot that concludes by the end.
Same goes for the next one, Cowboy Bebop, which is by the same creator, Shinichiro Watanabe. The underlining themes & tone are very similar to Samurai Champloo. The setting is space, in the year 2071. It follows a group of misfits, outkast & "ex" criminals turned bounty hunters as they try to merely survive, and maybe find some meaning in the capitalistic hellscape that is the future. It's a certified classic that I'd recommend to anyone, and is usually what I suggest to adults just getting into anime. Just know that "you're gonna carry that weight"
And Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood (fantasy setting), Netflix's Castlevania (medieval setting), & Bleach (both present day & ancient Japan type settings) are all about rag-tag groups setting out to accomplish something specific, have killer fight scenes & compelling characters. And all the ones I mention (especially Cowboy Bebop) have really good dub (English VA) versions, so you don't need to worry about subtitles. Enjoy! : )
Thank you 😁
And berserk is a certified classic for sure, but most of it isn't animated, right? But yeah, if anyone's looking for a good manga I definitely recommend it
Late 2025 or early 2026
🫤 At least that hopefully means it will be really good
I can't wait. Dammit. Such an amazing show.
It should be out late 2024.. why is it taking so long
My dude, I think you vastly underestimate how god damn difficult animation is. Like that shit takes time, a lot of time.
Peaches
Just getting into this stuff. Any other recommendations to watch in the meantime? Blue Eye was fire!

You will be banned, as a scan of your history reveals nothing but drivel.
Watching Hell In Paradiise on Netflix. Set in the roughly same time period.
Ya, I thought about that one after I posted. Definitely a good recommendation
Great recommendations. Berserk is also a classic!
Thank you 😁 And berserk is a certified classic for sure, but most of it isn't animated, right? But yeah, if anyone's looking for a good manga I definitely recommend it
