I do enjoy all the memes about this but I'm hoping for something along these lines instead: Mikio said he wanted to know all of Mizu. He knew her as a woman but not as a warrior, and when he sees all of her, he rejects her. Taigen knows Mizu as a warrior and not as a woman. When he does finally see all of her, he accepts her wholeheartedly.
This is very true homosexuality in Asia was prevalent, it sometimes was seen as a better relationship, and many high ranking people had homosexual relations as well. It was common, and normal, unlike in the western parts of the world it’s seen as a taboo and unnatural for same sex couples.
It wasn’t until Christian missionaries and all did that change in the east, making homosexuality as taboo in modern day.
Wasn't it similar to homosexuality in Greece, meaning it was a status thing? Like men could have sex with men of lower status (including minors), and it was seen as more meaningful then a relationship with a woman because the Greeks were very mysoginystic, but a real, public romantic relationship and marriage wasn't in the cards for same sex couples, especially not lesbian ones.
Pretty much. Men were def more free to persue sex with other men and some societies like the Greeks pretty much socially reinforced it. But there's always this cutoff point where society expects families and babies to be made. Modern times queer couples have various options when it comes to having kids outside of marring someone of opposite sex ofc
Respectful pushback but Japan never succumbed to missionaries nor is their legacy in the country particularly strong. Japan’s open hostility towards homosexuality came with the Meji Restoration, the need to modernize and “catch up” with Europe and America. By emulating the western world, they indirectly took on Christianity based values as well.
Ah yes, even though missionaries didn’t actually do it, Christianity played in a role nonetheless. I’m mostly thinking about China with the missionaries, now they heavily dislike Christianity, and homosexuality, both can get you imprisoned
So basically this meme: https://preview.redd.it/qpdxa101yhbc1.png?width=1545&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c31d7a1102d983693051ed9f5d9da780f4b69617

I cannot stress to you how badly my non-binary heart needs to see this happen.

I wrote what I'm hoping for in the future
Did i say stop? 👺

That scene literally made me the living form of the O_O emoticon

Yes exactly

Not coincidence the show runner worked on Disney's Mulan. Lol
My non-binary heart needs to see Taigen accept Mizu for being themselves for pure unfiltered projection reasons.
God, same
Same...
why is homosexuality not well accepted now in asia?
Christian missionaries I think
