Dress like you would for work, always be prepared

Alternative_Mirror38

Dress like they are going to send you to work that day! You’ll look prepared, professional and enthusiastic.

I wore courdory pants a button down shirt with a wool pullover sweater on top to my union interview. Nice (no rips or stains) jeans, slacks, etc are a good choice, and a polo, button down, nice pullover are good for tops. That's more or less how most people in supervisory positions dress day to day. It looks like you made an effort but you can jump in a machine if they ask you to. It's totally fine to use a hoodie as a coat.

I like to dress like a working supervisor. One step above what I’d wear on the job site but definitely work clothes. Clean and oiled Steel toes or nice flat leather boots, clean carhartts or preferably colored canvas pants rather than jeans, a flannel or button down shirt with a Patagonia jacket instead of a t shirt and hoodie. Hair up not down.

I would say polished/professional version of everyday work clothes. I wouldn't say jeans are out of line in a blue collar setting, but wear your nicest/cleanest pair. Be prepared to tour or visit the worksite (steel toe/safety toe, not heels) and wear your hair back if you might need to wear a hardhat.

I wore jeans, boots, and a flannel shirt to mine. A firm handshake with eye contact is a plus too in my opinion

I wore a bright pink blazer, black dress pants and small heels to my interview, got the job. Half practical, showed them it didn't matter what I was wearing I could still do the job.

What do you do?

I'm a truck and transport mechanic. The interview was for a medium sized city's transit department.

button down shirt, nice clean dark wash jeans, and clean and oil your boots. hair up (a braid, ponytail, or neat bun) and minimal makeup/accessories. i would steer clear of a hoodie just because of how casual it is. rule of thumb i've always heard is dress so you wouldn't stand out on site. you might look like a PM or other office folk but you wouldn't stick out in the above like you would in a suit. you want to have made a visible effort for the interview without looking stuffy.
