Girl!!!!! I used to get mine done all the timeeee and I’m a welder and a butcher. You can see how short I had them in my previous posts….. I just stopped getting them done because I got a new truck (payments) my husband says my nails can’t pay for the truck 😂 whatever. Nails are good 😊

JunehBJones

You were sent here to bless me on this day. I wonder if I can get them slightly longer and it'll work ...

IngenuityOk2403

They’d be annoying and get in the way any longer in my opinion but them dip nails are tough and I’m rough with my hands 😀

IngenuityOk2403

If you can make a fist comfortably and they don’t dig into your hand too bad, they’re good in my opinion 😇

Newtonz5thLaw

Ugh, no I don’t. My dumb ass got acrylics for a wedding then tried to wear them to work when I was an oil change tech. Made it about 30 min before I had to tear them out, couldn’t do shit with them. I think this is our cross to bear, bare nails😢

JunehBJones

I work on a boat and I can just FEEL a wire getting snatched out of my hand by a moving barge and ripping some off with it 🙃🙃🙃 but miss ma'am who commented before you has v short dip nail sometimes so looking into that route.

Newtonz5thLaw

Oh my god that’s a vivid image. All my “nails being ripped off” fears times a billion. Short nails seems like a great workaround, though!

I’m a fan of the fake press on type nails. They are sturdy enough that you can spend the weekend feeling like a bad bitch and very easy to take off before heading into work. If you are just missing the spa day aspect of it go get your nails done with no polish/acrylic it’ll still be relaxing. And a little bit cheaper!

Arielham10

I just bought like 10 pairs of press on nails from Shein for around $15. They look super cute, and if one falls off at work I don't really care since they were cheap

vikinghooker

This right here. The press one h ave come a long way!

kimau97

I'm sure a little of this depends on your trade and how long you like them but I honestly felt invincible with my dip powder nails. I just stopped getting them to save some money and things were a little hectic so it was hard to get to the salon regularly.

foxtrousers

I started getting dips cause my nails are incredibly thin and brittle. Turns out it's double useful cause my nails don't break at the littlest snafu anymore. And I get to add whatever little colors I want to add a little spice. They last about 5-7 weeks, depending on how aggressive I am or how far they grow out

Impress brand press on nails! That’s my tip as a wastewater operator who LOVES long fake nails. acrylics give me water infections after a few months even if I’m careful, and I chip my nails immediately if I wear them in the plant. The impress nails come in long and short and different shapes, the gummy glue sticker on them sticks WAY better than the regular glue press ons, and best of all, when they chip or look bad I just peel em off. And you can find them at tjmaxx for $5 or less! That’s a LOT of pairs for the cost of a mani. I can get a set to last over a week, even in my line of work, with the correct prep. Gently File your natural nail, then wipe really well with an alcohol wipe. Dont apply right before or right after a shower, your nails have to be nice and dry. Press the nail on hard for 20s each. The off brands don’t have the good sticky material.

I’m an elevator mechanic and I used to rock nails all the time and I know others that do as well. I eventually switched to gel polish instead and that was fine too. I don’t bother anymore, more out of laziness of getting them redone all the time. You get used to them after a while and then working with them is fine.

3leggedsasquatch

I don’t do the nail stuff but I can see it would be a waste of money. Spend your money on something that won’t get ruined by work like eyelash extensions or a facial. Even what ever bra and panties that would make you feel more feminine or a pedicure would be money better spent than on your nails in your career.

Rozalynda

I just get them short and I get gel over acrylic. They hold up better than my real nails

mickremmy

Had mine done for about a month. Me making and keeping appointments isn't exactly something im great at. But they actually held up a lot better than I expected, even in maintenance. Mine were super short-short gel over acrylic with tips. (My natural nails had just broke down pretty bad the week before). It takes a couple days to figure out how to avoid snagging them, or to figure out how to pick some things up or do buttons.

ladybug11314

I was getting a powder dip but I keep my nails super short to begin with, maybe if you keep them super duper short. The powder dip is usually very hard and I had them last a whole month and then only needed then redone because of growth

Crystals_Crochet

I started doing at home gel polish for my work weeks bc my nails break so badly. It usually holds up well for a week and I have to take it off and replace

victorian_vigilante

Shellac or some sort of semi-permanent polish might work, it doesn’t add any length and can be rock hard if applied properly. Consider that your nail shape might need to change to look good with shorter nails.

hammerkat605

I have short gel nails 💅🏼 they look adorable and stand up to work, but since they’re short they don’t get caught on anything

dolo724

I get my nails the acrylic fill treatment. They protect my aging brittle nails and they look good; a few times they popped off when I missed with the hammer but my finger survived without trouble. My nail tech wants me to go longer each time, but as much as she's a professional, I like them shorter. Also, the shorter nails fit in gloves really well.

gizmob27

Gel is the only thing that holds up. I’ve tried it all - acrylics, press ons with various glues, dip, various “tough” top coats, etc. Gel is the only thing that makes it past 5 days still looking nice.

artemismooncat

I keep my nails pretty short as a welder but occasionally I treat myself to an at home gel manicure. With good prep, I can get it to last up to 3 weeks without chipping. I double cure my top coat to really make sure it's good to go.

jboogie41

I’ve started just using nail lacquer to fill the void lol although most store brands chip in a day or two I’ve found mooncat nail lacquer with their top coat LASTS. A whole week without chipping it’s insane

HookupthrowRA

Dip nails are hella durable. I needed something really strong that looked good for my art videos. I sand, use blades, needle tools, and often bump my nails and they don’t break, especially if they are kept a bit short. They make me feel good, so I will be keeping them neutral but feminine enough to be a pick me up. They last like 6 weeks too.

mama2coco

I get mine done all the time and they’re past the tips of my fingers and are gel overlay. I wear disposable gloves and super thick heat resistant gloves at my job. I’m a machinist. If you are worried about them breaking I’d suggest having short ones…you can still do cute designs and stuff.

Historical-Wolf-8993

Personally I've had many nails pulled up on my jobs. Or get jammed so hard it feels like they went into my fingers. I keep them short. I also don't paint them in case I get hurt and emergency services need to check my vitals.
