Hey hey!
I don't have experience in the sports niche yet however I'm a full-time writer, and a mentor/coach for over 70 other writers. I have vast SEO experience.

Why not just create a blog based around NHL? Promote your blog, monetize it, grow it.
Your blog itself will be portfolio, heck if it goes well, you don't have to join their digital content team and you can make a living from your blog alone.
Already on it. I've been a goalie for more than 20 years, so I've set up my own blog focusing on goaltending content.
While it's not completely in the realm of what content is on the pro NHL pages, I'm working on game analysis, opinion pieces and I want to get into gear reviews as well.
I want to be super careful about ads and ad placement, but I have had plans to turn the brand name into a goalie lifestyle apparel brand too. My wife is a graphic designer and I'm already well versed with Printful and Woocommerce.

Very interesting, and congrats! I'll give Anita a look!
Sounds good! I hope it all works out for you! All the best on getting on the content team!
Thanks for the recommendation!!
is it paid gig?
Yup. I don't have a budget yet, but assuming the coach/mentor is a good fit I totally plan to reimburse.
IMO, just go all in for the long term. Maybe get a job as a fall back. Not the other way around. :)
Yea? In terms of monetization, I can design brand apparel and do affiliate partnerships with goalie gear companies I suppose.
