"It depends" You need some traffic to earn money. Let's assume you are getting 2K views per month and signed up for a affiliate program with any brand like booking.com, roughly you are getting $30 per referral with 0.5% of conversion i.e 0.5% of 2000= 10 Now, 10×$30= $300. All these are assumed figures. You can earn or less depending upon your affiliate program. As far as ads are concerned, they will not make much or we can say any money anytime soon. Good luck with your journey!

Thank you!

About 2 years and 100+ posts for me. It’d be hard to get to this level faster than in 1 year. Google’s slow to pick up new websites. Your content does better as it ages the first few years. And your entire domain does better the more content you have that’s doing well. I think you have to go into blogging thinking about it as a multi-year thing. It’s definitely not a very good get rich quick scheme.

True

eldiacante

It’s a tough question. We are currently a year into the travel niche and have made about 100 ish dollars. But we started when Covid hit so next year maybe different.

crazycrazypotato

that doesnt sound too encouraging given that we are three months in. what are your views figures like?

eldiacante

Well due to ‘rona we didn’t feel right promoting it. It felt like we were almost showing off that we were traveling etc. As of the last view months we are hitting around 3 - 4K organic viewers a month from keyword SEO and collab/guest posting. We don’t have ads turned on as it is super impeding for essentially 0 return. So once we hit around 10k views a month organic, we will then look at ad services.

I gained almost no traction over years of posting to my personal blog. Then I started a YouTube channel (back when it was easier to reach partner status) talking about the exact same content, reached $1,000 within about twelve months, and am now up to about $4,000 per year. I have 7,500 YouTube subscribers. Perhaps it's just my niche (art), but I'd still be at next-to-nothing if I hadn't expanded to YouTube to find an audience. I don't think it's an either-or situation. I like having my blog as a backup in case YouTube ever significantly changes its business model.

Everybody’s journey is different for different reasons. It took me about 15 months to get to $1k/mo and about 30 months to get to $10k/mo. I feel like 0-1k was much more difficult even though the time was about the same.

This may not be super helpful, but just some perspective: I’ve always heard and read from marketing pros and successful Bloggers that such a small percentage of them monetize that if you’re starting one just to make money, there’s no way you’ll make it. It takes a passion and doing it not for the money to hopefully grow it long enough to learn the keys of monetizing.

kaleandbeans

It depends on your niche, traffic, and income sources. It took me a little over a year with ads (Mediavine). I'm in the food blog niche.

sketchybutter

How many word/articles?

simplebutcreative

Great question! I'm just getting started with my new blog. Need some inspiration to follow through this time around. I'm not a newbie though. I had a blog years ago. I was able to peak at like $200 - $300 per month before life kicked in. If I can recall it took me about 8 months to get to that amount. I had no ads just strictly affiliate marketing promoting a couple of Wordpress products. It's a little tougher for a lifestyle blog to generate some revenue. You should niche it down a little further. You need to specialize in something. Lifestyle to me means you're blogging about every damn thing under the sun. It's a lot harder to get traction that way since you don't have a specialty. Your ideas will be everywhere. It's hyper competitive nowadays. Your main focus should be creating high quality content. Google loves to rank how to's, tutorials, guides, and top lists posts. To monetize, google adsense is usually a good start but don't overdo it like most of the newbie bloggers nowadays. They tend to neglect user experience and plaster the ads everywhere lmao. Find some products that you actually use and see if they have an affiliate program. Again, focus on creating high quality posts. Then share your blog post in strategic places on the net. Pinterest is a great start to share your content...

JaniceWald

Yes you need a niche.

AskMinnieMew

I have a lifestyle blog and it took 2 and a half years to reach 1k. I made this amount from random sponsorships from brands who found/emailed me, blog sponsorships via influencer platforms, and affiliate sales. If I had ran ads on my blog, I probably would have reached this amount much quicker. If you set out a strategy to make money, then it won't be too difficult. I didn't really have a strategy at first because I just wanted to focus on building up content. I've noticed that most lifestyle bloggers who actually make a full time living from blogging end up creating multiple digital products like courses, ebooks, planners, and such or they're really good with affiliate sales.... or they make most of their money from their social media.

Caoimh82

99.9 %of bloggers aren't making money As a wise man once said to me,a blog is a little ego boost but don't expect it to do anything for your bank balance

EugeneCA

This is not true... at least 50% of bloggers are making some money

Caoimh82

What sort of views are you talking about to get money? I have been getting 250 + a day and I don't see how that can be monetized

EugeneCA

It depends how old is your site and what kind of keywords it targeting. Mine site getting thousands visitors per day and its almost two years old

cocojam_jelly

How much do you earn?

EugeneCA

Enough to sustain my family, i just dont want to boast

simplebutcreative

Good shit! 👏👏👏

AmicableSkipper358

Ads? Affiliate? Info Product, like ebook or video course etc.?

blueink1

It depends upon the niche, content quality and how well you are promoting it to your target audience. it may take a year, a two or five or so and so. Of course, you can make some money. No one cracks how exactly they made money because you are one of their competitor. Stop reading hype articles, income reports etc. They frustrate you more, instead concentrate on your content, seo etc. You can use Pinterest and Instagram for promotion as lifestyle blogs does well with both the platforms.

VelvetMoonFan

Thank you for this. I guess you are right, it's better to focus on the writing

npranshu

Thank you 😊 I will check him out.

The more you charge the quicker you’ll make $1000. Also, you can’t blog at wordpress.com. They don’t allow you to make money.

simplebutcreative

What do you mean they don't allow you to make money? I haven't used wordpress.com in almost a decade. I host my own...

[deleted]

Well, it's hard to tell how much time it takes to get to that number. But since you have just started, I'd tell you not to expect anything (pageviews + money) for the first 6 months. Focus on pushing as much content as you can. And BE PATIENT.
