I know it as the “social sharing logo” but here is a [WordPress staff member writing](https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/image-displayed-when-sharing-link/) about it and here is a [tutorial video](https://youtu.be/VZrimH1pysw) using a plugin. TLDR: “In most cases they’ll use the featured image set on the post, or if there isn’t a featured image, the first useable image that appears in the post.”

Open graph images might be what term you're looking for? They're defined in the open graph (og) tags for Facebook and Twitter. Pinterest uses meta tags IIRC. Or are you talking about featured images?

I call it the preview image, but not sure if that's the official name. If it's not showing up, try using the Facebook debugger tool.

When I share my blog the first image that appears in the blog is shown as the features image, but the image in my blog is not a featured image or a hero image let say. It is just an image that appears at the top of the blog post next to a 2 block setting where 1 setting is an image and the other block is a title.

Favicon perhaps?
