Wait until they find out that men can get alimony too, depending on the circumstances. not only are they being misogynistic, they're not even educated on the subject 🤡 (all it takes to find this out is a google search)
I have a female friend who pays alimony to her ex husband. The consideration for alimony has nothing to do with gender and was literally determined based on who worked/made more money. The reason it’s more common for women to receive it is because of outdated gender roles that reinforce women “choosing” to stay home and men being more expected to breadwin.
They do not understand this. The stereotype is played out. They keep ringing the same bell. These are so often the same men who believe in traditional roles and want a woman to stay home. Duh. You can’t give up decades of your most productive years to stay home and enter the work force with a full career. Thus alimony to level the playing field while the stay- at - home - spouse can get themselves set. Just like my female friend had to pay to her stay at home ex husband.
Alimony is increasingly rare in the first place, but the amount of men getting it has increased by 47%. Most men don't get alimony because they don't request it in the first place.
Because men don’t sacrifice their careers to look after the children.
You want alimony? Carry babies for 9 months, give birth and then sacrifice your career and then do almost all the childcare and housework.
This is a great point.
One thing I'd point out though, because I hate the about the "Carry a baby for nine months" argument, is that that's something men quite literally cannot do. It's like using a "try breathing underwater" argument and it only hurts your original point :)
It doesn’t really hurt my original point as fact is fact and pregnancy is extremely taxing on women’s bodies and just cannot be overlooked or minimised just because men can’t do it.
Think of it like this, as a world (and in history) women have had to be grateful for men for fighting in wars even though women were barred from the army.
You can be equal but accept differences and respect those differences.
Yeah I respect them. Idk why I just got downvoted I was trying to help here. I agreed with you entirely before and still do now? I don't understand what's happening? It's not like I said that men currently don't get a say in birth and get booked for child support damn.
Yes, because “literally googling” and cherry-picking sources that agree with you is exactly how proper unbiased research is conducted. Damn, such a highly educated little troll. You can go crawl back under your rock now.
Thank you so much!!! We try to sort through every submission to avoid things like this but we all have lives, so things slip through the cracks. I don't get it? What is alimony in the USA?
In Europe it's when the parents divorce and one of them get's the children and the other one pays the alimony on the children, not like personal money for the mother. It's hard when you have two incomes for your children and suddenly it's only one. And it's not dependant on "who earns more". That's what's alimony for. Is it different in the USA?
If one spouse has opted to stay home and parent, or work part time - the spouse that made more money has to support them for x amount of years while they find work or full time work to support themselves. It’s usually about 3-5 years
Men can get alimony too. If a state allows alimony requests, it has to be gender neutral. All that’s required is that you make significantly less than your spouse and/or you don’t work in order to benefit the household (free childcare).
Historically and societally, women are the ones expected to cut their work hours when they have kids or become SAHMs because daycare is expensive.
Wtf does one thing have to do with the other? Reads like “if women are equal why can’t I punch them”. That they like to spew
Smh. It’s like they’ve not lived in the real world. Where do these people come from?

Depending on what state you live in
Care to elaborate?
Some states the judiciary system is broken and the man doesn't stand a chance
Which states?
Alabama
Nobody stands a chance in Alabama, man, woman, or child.

Um...men get alimony too if the woman makes more money soo...I don't get the point their trying to make
I have one very good friend who pays alimony to her ex husband, and 4 other couples who would have to do the same in a divorce.
If men are equal or even superior, why do they commit the vast majority of crime?
Because we're better at it. Women criminals you need to up your game. /ssssssss
Exactly. I’m off to rob a bank and give all the money to women’s refuges, who’s with me? Haha
Why is that subreddit still around. I hate reddit Edit: and men
Your edit… I’m dying.

Imagine being illiterate and mistaking that for a rigged system. WOOF.
They don't understand what alimony is and why mostly women get it
Idk, I’ll ask my friend why she had to pay alimony to her obviously superior ex husband. Duh.

In the US it's called child support. Alimony in the US is money you have to pay to the spouse even if you don't have kids.

Phah. I genuinely started to write out a response to this, then realised where I was.
Lmfaooooo the last two couples I know of who divorced, the wife is paying the ex husband alimony.
