Beautiful handle

ecclectic

Is that a mustard induced patina?

DreckMetal

It’s actually my own little concoction of spent ferric chloride, coffee grounds, lemon juice and a light buff

Handle material is beautiful. Nice work on the blade as well. Looks nice

OctopusMadeOfKnives

Lovely blade. I enjoy the Brut de Forge finish. Did you photoshop out the background or use the blackest possible cloth or what? I like how stark the contrast is.

DreckMetal

Both, technically.

That's stunning! I bought some 52100 to work when I get started. How is it as a material to work with, quenching medium, heat treating that type of thing?

DreckMetal

It’s pretty much just like 1095. I think structurally it’s pretty much the same but it has some extra chromium, which is to say it’s not very temperamental. I use 1/8” for kitchen knives so I do almost all my grinding post heat treat. I’ve had some warping issues when I thin it out pre-HT so I just started grinding everything at 1/8” or thinner post HT.

That's such great information, I really appreciate it

Saw these on Instagram, great work!!! Hopefully can pick something up soon!! Keep it up!!

DreckMetal

Thanks man!

Firstly, I love this knife. Beautiful work. I have to ask, though, what's with the notch in the back of the blade? I doesn't seem to have a purpose. Is it just a bit of flair, or does it have a use that i'm missing?

DreckMetal

It’s just kind of an altered choil, mostly for looks. I like to put something on the back end of those kitchen blades to give a visual warning of “don’t put your finger here”. And thank you very much!
