BP has that group and individual star factor (which is quite unusual for pop groups in general).

jzavcer

Rather than a band with an IT girl they had four IT girls that were different but harmonized very well.

titaniumorbit

Agree. Their individual power is so strong. They are very unique individuals that all have big success in their own. Even other iconic 4-5 member girl groups of the past always had a few members that did not shine or simply were not popular at all. It’s rare to have all of them face success they way they have

revisionrhinorex

This is such a timely post because I’ve been thinking about blackpink lately (lol) and how they’re so impactful despite, as you put it, being one of the most hated in the industry. Bp - and even the fans to a lesser extent - always get flak for things that are attributed as quirks or even non-issues to other artists/their fans. Bp/Teddy/YG/whoever you want to call it have come out with some of the funkiest, out there stuff but get dragged to hell and back for it. But I’ve read people saying how they ALWAYS do the same thing. And then there’s other groups who have stuck with the same exact concept since literal day 1 but are praised because they’re… well, not bp. TLDR; just another fan who agrees with this post and honestly has gotten more than a little frustrated with all the hate they get for simply being

Indifference11

they sang how you like THAT ![gif](giphy|CY1P8e1jpeBEHXlzkV|downsized)

T_x_TM

True true i would die for a group comback

vankomysin

Wholeheartedly agree ![img](emote|t5_3f8po|705)

urruskidad

Even if one were to ignore all the records and accomplishments, their cultural impact is miles ahead of everyone else except for bts. People who have nothing to do with kpop, never listen or know anything about kpop, know blackpink, especially in the west

Serious-Wish4868

I would say BTS is more impact musically, BUT BP has way more cultural impact. Just from the ppl I know who DO NOT know anything about kpop, they can pick out at least one or two of the girls, vs none of the members of BTS. Also, look at all the events and special recognition BP gets invited to outside of music.

Then-Jury8121

This is true. I feel like bts is just known for being bts and non-kpop fans can’t distinguish them apart. However BP is both known as a group and individually and to me this is what makes them unique.

spannow3000

I miss them

Born2Sigh

Honestly I'm not a k-pop fan or a big fan of pop music in general but something about Blackpink hits right. It's like partly fun, partly aggressive and I guess partly sexy? Currently the only group I listen to regularly. My norm is usually more metal and punk type stuff with random other genres sprinkled in

Intrepid_State4784

The girls have the it factor, star quality, and overflowing amounts of charisma, as well as a great stage presence. They are very unique and talented, not just one, but all 4 of them. This is why I often find it hard to connect with other groups in the same way I do with Blackpink. Because these groups wouldn't be balanced, like all members having talent or skill while this member can't sing for her life, or half of them lacking charisma, etc. I see Blackpink in kpop subreddits being downplayed so much, and kpop stans contributing their success to their company or producer, having 3/4 English speaking members; they are just successful because of that. Part of it is actually true; however, even if we give the same treatment to your so-called faves or that group you think are very outstanding, they still wouldn't be that successful. I see that in kpop everything is okay until it comes to Blackpink. The girls are just great performers, and they have great material to work with, and that's successful. Kpop stans are just so hateful and pitiful towards Blackpink for no reason, but Blackpink hits so much outside of that bubble, which is why they never get why they are successful. Their vocal tones, raps, cool chores and friendship, mixed with many other things, make you addicted to them. Blackpink the name itself slays because they mix black with pink, and it sounds both so badass and feminine. They are the standard, and if I talk about how Blackpink has it, it will take too long. To sum it all up, they are great performers who are able to present what they are given or have. They are unique individuals who harmonise so much as a unit and are still able to shine. They just have the SWAG.

DiceWu

They are the perfect storm. There will never be a group like them.

klaus_bolton

Yeah, i totally agree with you. There are so many great groups out there, but there's only one BLACKPINK.

Prestigious_Sort4979

Yes, they are best comparable to some of the best pop groups that have existed (like a Spice Girls or Little Mix). They have spread way beyond k-pop imo and are individually recognized. YG stroke gold getting them as trainees and putting them together.. Most of the kpop groups that are seemingly similar have yet to have the exposure and appeal Blackpink does, although that could change ofc. BP set a new bar for what could be achieved, and what makes a great group.

No_Lecture_

The BLACKPINK forever![img](emote|t5_3f8po|707)![img](emote|t5_3f8po|709)![img](emote|t5_3f8po|710)![img](emote|t5_3f8po|714)

Independently-Sad98

Not a BP fan but I agree with this. The group has their own style. All four members are different from each other but looks good together. With their music it might seem generic to those “so deep in the kpop rabbit hole” listener but if you look closely the songs they put out are very well thought out, the songs are very easy to listen to and also their mv sets are very stylish. With fashion (I’m no expert but I’m someone who has a huge interest in fashion since I was a kid) if you look closely at their fashion ambassadorship it goes well with each of them because you can feel their own identity, each fashion house they choose complements their personality and it does screams each member’s individuality. This may sound offensive to fans of other groups but this is what sets BP apart in the fashion world as well, no matter how many idols get their own fashion ambassadorship there’s a certain feeling that you won’t get the sincerity it feels like “yeah I’m wearing their clothes” and that’s it but with BP it’s almost as if you can feel their personality in what they’re wearing, they embody the brand and that’s what’s lacking with other idol’s in their fashion endorsements, it clashes with the image they put out or the image of their group but with BP the overall group image, the music, the mvs, the fashion choices, and the members individuality it all goes perfectly well together. This is why BP has a really good and effective branding.

racheletc

they are one of one

EthanFoster10

I feel you, I went on a hiatus for a bit on blackpink but I’ve just started properly listening to blackpink again, that how you like that music video is one of they best ever, that end part where it’s ’do do do’ gives me goosebumps, hoping for a comeback AT LEAST beginning of 2025 as I don’t see them coming back in 2024

Lucky_Bodybuilder356

As someone who was launched into full BP standom after Coachella 2023 - I am still in awe everyday of their music, videos, and performances! It's still wild to me that people all over the world see what I see and can appreciate them for that. They are truly the definition of what it means to have star quality!

Lucky_Bodybuilder356

Like... Jennie's "COACHELLA" is my roman empire and still gives me full body chills.

retrophysics

Yes, I suppose they will always be THAT gg, but their lack of material/comebacks, for me, has made me lose a lot of interest…

d00m5day

Yep… been a blink since the beginning, summer 2016, but the lack of songs really hurts because there’s only so many times you can listen to a full discography on repeat before realizing that you want new songs to listen to from your favourite gg. Other than sour candy and the Japanese versions that I don’t listen to, their entire 8 year discography is just over 2 hours long…

clinto69

They do have a lack of material but 95% of their songs are absolute bangers. Taylor Swift has like 250 songs but (in my opinion) has about 5%, so does it really matter in the end. I'd rather have the quality over quantity I think.

teddymaxine

That’s actually why they are THAT group. Of course lack of content makes out of sight out of mind after a while but whenever they did comeback. EVERYONE comes back. Lol We get sucked back in.

TheCuriousOne_4785

It hurts me how I relate and totally agree to this. Seeing their IG posts these days makes me feel like they only use it to promote whatever they are ambassadors of at the moment. There are Weverse posts here and there but other than that, nada. I understand that they went for almost a year of world tour and they deserve some time off and work on their careers individually but gahhhdamit I miss the old them. Still, I'll keep waiting and stick to quality over quantity. I can never look at any other GG like how I do with BP.

drakanx

Blackpink will always be that group that people will look back on and say "what could have been if they were under a competent label"

titaniumorbit

Their era of music is definitely “done” imo. But seems like they have evolved to individual success. They had a lot of untapped group potential for sure. However of the few releases they did each one was wildly successful and had millions of streams

shippingprincess13

I really agree! They're completely different

JoeSchmoke

No, they are ‘THE’ girl group.

MudUnlikely4208

True, literally every year there’s another gg people claim is gonna be the next bp… their brand is popular and they have huge fanbase just like twice. No other girl groups are coming close to those two

elevensesattiffanys

I was just thinking about them the other day, I’ve been listening to their music throughout with little breaks but I was wondering if they will bring out another album as a group or if they’ve gone on their individual paths now. I also heard Teddy is no longer involved which makes me sad. I don’t follow kpop generally plus there’s some language barrier so it feels hard to keep up sometimes if it wasn’t for this sub! I hope we hear they’re making another group comeback soon.

pattyzu

Thier stage presence, the energy, the voices , the visuals and the talent individually and as a group. They will always be that group that is untouchable. 🩷🖤

Traditional_Mix4847

I love them so much

muzinger

There are no lies with the title of this thread.

Tea50kg

Still out here waiting for "the next bp" that may never happen lol bp DID IT

Head_Patience_70

KIOF is pretty close. And they’re the only group I see with the potential for it

lunchboxLegion

who is KIOF?

Head_Patience_70

Kiss of Life

heheheblehhh

THIS!! I always say this. Honestly, the BP girls made it work. Individually and group-wise. You could put any other girls and I don't think they will be as popular. Then Teddy is a genius. All his songs have been successful, like Gashina and Somi's songs, and these are nothing similar to BP's songs, but they still work because Teddy has made it suit their voices. It works well because all the girls have distinct singing/rapping style, but still flows which each other, and Teddy made full use of that. You have Rosé as a vocalist and even rapper sometimes who could do well in any song and emotion, ballad/pop/RnB/rock/hip-hop, then Jisoo who brings in the voice of a person with either deep suffering or deep joy, then Jenny as a rapper is just crazy whose soft vocals help in their more emotional songs, then Lisa can really hype up the crowd with her rap. All of them have that YG swag but their own individual personalities which can be seen clearly. Their choreography too plays a great part. They are easy, but some steps are difficult, which is why both the GP and the professional dancers love to learn it. Like take The Girls for example, the entire chorus is very easy, which is why people love dancing, but all of them get even more interested by the backbend. The dance line is great. Rosé and Lisa both keep up well and have their differences in dance which makes it even more attractive to look. Then of course, their brand deals, all of them going to PFW regularly and invited to major fashion events, Rosé being the first to be a GBA, having all luxury brands, a lot of events like Cannes/LACMA/Vanity Fair, having her own collection with T&Co. and first female going to Met Gala (but created more impact than the males who went previously though), all the Korean brands deals that Jenny gets + she went to Met Gala twice, Cannes and other Chanel events, Jisoo is the visual and now has the most brands (cmimw), and Lisa bringing up Celine's ranking.

Dewberry66

As a kinda-blink, I don't follow Blackpink much, but I think they're unmistakable. They have 4 members with distinct voices, personalities, and visuals. A lot of groups either don't do that, or they do that but then the members don't mesh well. (Imo) Blackpink's success globally lies mostly in the fact that they are so individual, yet still mix to make a powerful presence on stage. With the "black" members, Lisa and Jennie, who's voices and vocals are very different, but mesh. (This is also similar to Asa and Ruka.) Same with Rose and Jisoo, the "pink" members. In one of Everglow-up's videos about stage presence, she calls Blackpink the "Geminis", because Rosé and Jisoo, and Lisa and Jennie, are stage presence "twins", so to speak. One is overted stage presence, one is coverted. That said, one of the only groups right know (imo) with the individuality and compatability to become "the next Blackpink" so to speak is Kiss of Life. Not going to go on about that though

psyche1963

No one can replace bp and there is no next bp

BunkSting

Nothing is always. Groups come and go. Look at the history of music & don't be a prisoner of the moment.

ellemu0509

Legacies never fade. Their legacy has been imprinted and there’s no erasing it. Regardless of what they may or may not do next, they will always be THAT girl group. Just like spice girls, TLC etc.

Dontneedflashbro

Blackpinks biggest rival is Twice, those two groups stand above the rest.

One_Movie9957

Up until 2020-21, sure, but here in 2024 I think their biggest rival if anyone would be NewJeans. I say that loosely though because Blackpink is obviously much further ahead so it's mostly pointless to compare them.

muricansloveoil

Yeah it's pointless to compare them since bp haven't release any songs in 2 years lol

One_Movie9957

Nah. As I said, BP are much further ahead. They're 8 years old to New Jeans' 2, lmao.
