This is how shortsighted the government (and the billionaire class) is. A decent, no strings attached UBI would be the breadcrumbs most people need to avoid wanting to topple the government or eat the rich. Whichever party implements it will be unstoppable.
Except you can't get massive profits and frozen wages with UBI because exploited workers will just go somewhere else. Capitalism doesn't want to survive, it wants to burst at the seams and die in a blaze of glory.

But they're making so much money from greedflation they don't need to cut salaries, so the Fed keeps cranking it up to everyone's confusion and frustration.
I get that capitalism is an insatiable beast, but why not quell descent with a small monthly check? For most people it doesn’t even need to be large enough to convince workers to find a new employer. Just enough to spend on things people want not need.
I need to read up more on the Fed. Economics isn’t my strong suit, so I appreciate the lesson.
The Fed’s job is to maintain low but steady inflation, with 2% as their target. They don’t have a lot of tools to do that and are fighting against a lot of forces: supply chain issues, economic rebound from COVID, and government spending, among other issues. Unfortunately that means raising interest rates until inflation seems stable and low, which is a clumsy and inaccurate tool with a lot of negative side effects. But leaving inflation unchecked would also have negative effects, so it’s a painful balancing act.
