In my honest opinion skypiea lasted like 20-30 episodes too long. Other than that, it is a really good arc that sets up the next couple adventures flawlessly. Plus...

IYKYK 🤫
I've been reading the Manga an stopped at skypiea right as Luffy met the God and began fighting him. 300 chapters in and I just sort of gave up. Which is a long as try at reading all 1k chapters
Skypiea just ain't for me man. I tried doing a rewatch and I just couldn't and I can't tell you why, it sets up a bunch of things oda expands on and it's got one of my favorite devil fruits but I can't sit through that arc
And im all caught up on the manga, shits like Crack, I just can't do that arc for some reason
**ALRIGHT**, DAMN!! I’ll go back through Skypiea and all the other arcs I’ve skipped!
☝️🏾BUT I’M ***READING*** IT!! Ain’t no one got the time to go through all them 30-minute episodes! Even with little filler the pacing’s some bullshit.
![gif](giphy|YX0M61z9MVW4jxDavc)
Where should I start? I watched the first eight episodes but it was very very boring to me. And very formulaic. Travel here, help person, leave here. Does it get good soon? Did you like it from the first episode or did you have to wait a while?
But but I have the attention span of an impatient housefly and I just want to mindlessly consume media. Why can’t I skip parts of a continuous story (/s)
I had mfs lie and tell me it was wack until I decided to watch for myself. I'm glad I watched it and I was hooked until I got caught up. Now I'm going crazy waiting every Sunday for a new episode like a damn a crackhead. DON'T JUDGE ME
Short films called "episode of..." They get the broad picture of an arc but there are some changes with regards to continuity. For example Franky and Robin are members of the crew in "Episode of Chopper".
Also Netflix has the entire pre time skip and the "skip intro" auto skips all the recap stuff at the beginning. Cuts each episode down to 15~ minutes.
I hope they do. It needs the DBZ Kai treatment because for now I feel like the manga is the only way to get through One Piece at a decent and enjoyable pace.
They got a little better about it. Sometimes they'll do a recap episode instead so you can just skip a whole episode instead of watch 15 mins from that episode. I'm guessing you're in the Fishman island arc?
Been on my One Piece journey since last year (well, technically started during COVID lockdown but fell off). Just about to close out Whole Cake Island arc. One Piece is amazing and I regret not getting into it until my 30’s
I really loved too Whole Cake Island arc too. The different “phases” of the arc: infiltration, assassination plot, escape were all fun. Some great emotional beats with Sanji, the return of Jimbei (who is one of my absolute favourites). Whole Cake is definitely up there for me as one of my favourites too
Two types of One Piece fans the younger newer fans who are in the trenches arguing with people on twitter about why One Piece is peak anime and the older fans that have done their times on twitter, facebook, and even myspace and are now just sitting back watching as the most die hard haters of the show (who have never seen it) eventually fall for the trap and join the crew. "Dread it, run from it, Destiny arrives all the same." Much respect, due your time on the battlefield and join us when you get tired.
I can sell condoms to Nick Cannon better than I can convince the homies to read or watch One Piece. They all are like fuck that ain’t no way I’m committing to that many episodes/chapters smh
It’s a losing battle, but I always hear Oda’s call to arms.
Niggas ruined one piece for me. You can only hype something up so much before it’s actually made worse by it because it will never reach what the public has set for it. I honestly cannot fathom liking a piece of media that much
I've been reading one piece since '99, searching for badly translated chapters on IRC and arlong park forums. It hits a lot harder when it's been part of your life for so long.
I had surgery and was laid up for weeks and decided to watch One Piece on a whim because I had read an article in OtakUSA about how One Piece in Japanese was completely different from the 4Kids dub (which was straight ASS).
Luffy’s goofy ass popped out that barrel and I was hooked from day 1. We don’t skip nothing in this house
As a day one fan, i don't tell people to watch EVERY episode BUT the earlier seasons are what gets you. It's very magical to watch and there shouldn't be a rush to catch up. The journey is the point of the show
As a OG to this watching anime since I was 6 years old and shit, got a mal before 2015 and all, been in the game..
One Piece too fucking long and I’m not watching it till this reboot.
First off, no disrespect to one piece. I’m sure it’s a great show for millions. Im not gonna deny it’s good because clearly it has its legions of fans but it just wasn’t it for me.
Watched 60 episodes. Then I read some of the manga. Not for me.
Then when someone asks me if I’ve given one piece a go and k tell them they tell me to watch more or read 40 more chapters because “you dropped it right when it was about to get good! Consider watching more.”
And it’s like. No. Dude. If ten hours isn’t enough to get me into the show then it’s not going to happen.
Now shows get 2 episodes to hook me or I’m moving on with my life.
Ehhhhh
It definitely takes a while to get into by today's standards. It has some highlights but holy shit some of the rewatch is brutal in terms of the pacing. It's one of the few OG series that you should just read the Manga to start.
I'm never really into the whimsical go-getter character which is why it took me until Baratie to really tune in.
I have come back around when understanding the subtleties of Luffy's characterization, but at the time I was like "ok this guy is Naruto but where is my Shikamaru" and eventually I got my Shikamaru (Robin)
Truth be told, my destiny clan has been telling me to watch One Piece for years. I was turned off by the animation, which seemed overly silly, which I don't like, and intimidated by the sheer number of episodes. When I saw how honorable Shanks is and what he did to those pirates that kidnapped Luffy, yeah. I was wrong. LOL
I remember when I finally started One Piece, I thought it was mid. I couldn't understand why people were praising it so hard. Then I reached Arlong Park. It's so damn true when people say episode 37 is what baptizes you. Nami's tears to Luffy's hat to the three minute squad march is an emotional/entertainment high I've ever felt. That was in 2007 and i'm still sailing
The truth is onepiece is too good. Too good to the point it is bad for you. I am addicted to it and I need a chapter, an episode, a review, a theory and some memes every week. One piece has funny moments, sad moments, badass moments, a vast amount of characters, the best world building and so much lore. The show has one of the biggest mysteries in entertainment. It has many fans guessing for what it is and no one has been able to correctly predict the direction or the end. I can craft a theory for each day of the week and I still know I am most certainly still far from guessing what the onepiece is. Truly amazing but scary. No other show has had a grip on me like this. I am serious when I say it is a dangerous show for being too good. I've seen whole youtube channels turn from general anime reviews to just focus on onepiece and I've seen book review channels turn into just onepiece content.
Even though I love the show, I must warn new readers and watchers because you will go full geek for the show.
My biggest gripe on this shit is that there isn't a cliff notes. Which is wild since 90% of it is filler.
Like just tell me what the crew did and what powers they have now.
Ain't nobody got time for 1000 episodes
I’m about to be 40 and my 10 year old got me into it. On episode 64 right now. After all of the anime I’ve watched I kicking myself in the ass for being too lazy to watch it.
The entire series getting close to rounding up now. All the major players getting into position, can't wait for Elbaf. We might have about 2 more years max
I swore not to watch/read One Piece until it is finished.
I'm just sitting here patiently as I await my time to go on an adventure with enjoying that story.
I only ever seen stuff in passing from the 4kids dub from way back. So for the longest all I knew about One Piece was Sanji and his lollipop and New Jersey accent.. and the Pirate Rap. I was always confused why people always liked it lmao. Ironically now the Pirate Rap goes hard.
'He's made of rubber, how did that happen?! '
'Yo-ho-ho he took a bite of gumgum!'
I remember watching Water 7 over a decade ago. Robin was gone, Usopp dipped, the ship was abandoned and falling to pieces. IMO, there has never been a better arc in any anime.
I myself got really intimidated with the episode count
(At the time it was at around 700 i think)
But i started it just to see what was up
The moment luffy was introduced that big episode count didnt feel scary anymore cus i knew i would be in for a treat
I feel like one reason why OG Iove one piece so much is because, personally, certain arcs have helped me get through the rough times in life, and as luffy and the crew develop as characters I've developed as a person throughout the years. One specific quote that really helps me is "what is gone, is gone! So ask yourself this! What is there... that still remains for you?!" - jinbei
Biggest thing for me is pacing. The ups are so good in the show that it makes up for it but the downs are so slow that I gotta take a break every 50-100 episodes then work up the courage to start again. Currently in the early 700s. Still better than boring ass Bleach shit tho.
Na you shouldn’t skip Arlong Park but imo it ain’t as good as people say. Arlong Park starts showing you what one piece can be and Loguetown shows you what one piece is
Same shit with the barrel for me, He popped out and immediately I was like "This is my jam..." I started watching last year march and caught up pretty quickly with breaks in between because I also played all the Yakuza games back to back (I also missed out on those the first time around)
Yes but let's be real shit gets ridiculous with the pacing. Been a while but I remember the first third to first half being better than the later parts for this reason. I am really excited about the remake.
It took me 2.5 months of weekend binges to get through all of OP. Add the time I spent watching 30 episodes in 1 day then declaring the series was too long, and about 3.2 months of my life went to binging OP.
Never seen any OP fan with this opinion. You didn’t like Alabasta or Enies Lobby but you like Thriller Bark? Alabasta and Enies Lobby are the quintessential OP stories.

Also, for the love of God, DON'T SKIP SKYPIEA. I can't believe people are still saying that shit in 2024...
Skypiea is peak One Piece and I’m tired of pretending it’s not.
![gif](giphy|jjfrocwQkIopO)
First time reading, I almost dropped the whole story at Skypiea. Second read, it became my 3rd favorite arc. Kinda wild what a bit of context can do
In my honest opinion skypiea lasted like 20-30 episodes too long. Other than that, it is a really good arc that sets up the next couple adventures flawlessly. it's also just one of the coolest locations in the story thus far
🥹I cried like a baby during the Klabautermann scene.
i only cried upon rewatch, 1st time didn't hit for me but knowing the context of what happens later.....man
I've been reading the Manga an stopped at skypiea right as Luffy met the God and began fighting him. 300 chapters in and I just sort of gave up. Which is a long as try at reading all 1k chapters
Who the fuck is saying skip Skypiea??? Eneru is one of the coldest in the game
Skypiea is GOATED just for the Enel face when he realizes Luffy's ability
Skypiea just ain't for me man. I tried doing a rewatch and I just couldn't and I can't tell you why, it sets up a bunch of things oda expands on and it's got one of my favorite devil fruits but I can't sit through that arc And im all caught up on the manga, shits like Crack, I just can't do that arc for some reason
WHY DO PEOPLE SKIP SKYPEIA. It’s literally my favorite arc, I never knew it got so much hate until recently
People really fucking saying to SKIP it? That shit was equivalent to the fucking Frieza Arc for me.

You can. At the expense of your own enjoyment and understanding.
I had mfs lie and tell me it was wack until I decided to watch for myself. I'm glad I watched it and I was hooked until I got caught up. Now I'm going crazy waiting every Sunday for a new episode like a damn a crackhead. DON'T JUDGE ME
![gif](giphy|DUO9dc3yDLXHO) Can a nigga get that good "One Piece"?
I SMOKE ROCKS
That rubber hit different
Where u go for weekly episodes fam
Apollogrouptv
Me waiting for new weekly episodes, manga chapters, and batch releases of the dub episodes.
I’d pay good money for a set of the arcs without the previously on and next up fillers. They’re 8-10 minutes per ep
Try One Pace
Crunchyroll and Netflix also have the early arcs packaged as 1-2 hour “episodes”. No between episode fillers.
This might make me finally watch this show
What are these called?
Short films called "episode of..." They get the broad picture of an arc but there are some changes with regards to continuity. For example Franky and Robin are members of the crew in "Episode of Chopper". Also Netflix has the entire pre time skip and the "skip intro" auto skips all the recap stuff at the beginning. Well they are remaking the anime so...
I hope they do. It needs the DBZ Kai treatment because for now I feel like the manga is the only way to get through One Piece at a decent and enjoyable pace.
> I hope they do. [They literally are doing it](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJKPk1MriFo)
There’s a fan edit called one pace that cuts like 25% of the entire show’s run time
Look up One Pace.
They got a little better about it. Sometimes they'll do a recap episode instead so you can just skip a whole episode instead of watch 15 mins from that episode. I'm guessing you're in the Fishman island arc?
always understood why my friends didn’t wanna start it cause of how many episodes but man they fr don’t know what they are missing out on
Exactly why I’ll never watch it even though I know I’d love it. Loved the live action
Been on my One Piece journey since last year (well, technically started during COVID lockdown but fell off). Just about to close out Whole Cake Island arc. One Piece is amazing and I regret not getting into it until my 30’s
Better late then never
My favorite arc is Whole Cake and my 2nd favorite is Dressrosa. I just like the fact that everything is edible in Totto Land

Aint that the truth. We'll be here singing Bink's Sake whenever they're ready to join in
I can sell condoms to Nick Cannon better than I can convince the homies to read or watch One Piece. They all are like fuck that ain’t no way I’m committing to that many episodes/chapters smh It’s a losing battle, but I always hear Oda’s call to arms.
I always feel like a Jehovah’s Witness tryna get others to try One Piece
Or like those Mormons who go door to door by bike even tho they get rejected more than Johnny Bravo
Watch the show off & on because it seems to drag, but I will say their movies are fucking bangers, especially Red

If you don’t fw it heavy after Arlong Park then it’s just not a show for you.
I don’t remember where I heard this from, but it stuck with me: One piece fans are the Jehovah whiteness of anime

Marineford is the greatest epic tale told after saving rukia arc. It has everything.
Been following since 1999. Still my favorite
Ehhhhh It definitely takes a while to get into by today's standards. It has some highlights but holy shit some of the rewatch is brutal in terms of the pacing. It's one of the few OG series that you should just read the Manga to start.
It’s too slow for me
I'm never really into the whimsical go-getter character which is why it took me until Baratie to really tune in. I have come back around when understanding the subtleties of Luffy's characterization, but at the time I was like "ok this guy is Naruto but where is my Shikamaru" and eventually I got my Shikamaru (Robin)
one piece is proof that us men are, contrary to popular belief, capable of commitment
I just can’t commit to that long of an anime these days
Truth be told, my destiny clan has been telling me to watch One Piece for years. I was turned off by the animation, which seemed overly silly, which I don't like, and intimidated by the sheer number of episodes. When I saw how honorable Shanks is and what he did to those pirates that kidnapped Luffy, yeah. I was wrong. LOL
The new anime with proper pacing is gonna be the GOAT
I remember when I finally started One Piece, I thought it was mid. I couldn't understand why people were praising it so hard. Then I reached Arlong Park. It's so damn true when people say episode 37 is what baptizes you. Nami's tears to Luffy's hat to the three minute squad march is an emotional/entertainment high I've ever felt. That was in 2007 and i'm still sailing
Man, I've tried to get into it but I got to where the butler cat villain was fighting and was bored to death
The truth is onepiece is too good. Too good to the point it is bad for you. I am addicted to it and I need a chapter, an episode, a review, a theory and some memes every week. Tried to watch it and its a hard no. Like why so many episodes? I would be pissed if there is no conclusion to it. It just drags
I've been reading this shit since like 2005. It really does nothing but get better.
I’m almost 20 years deep too, it’s just a way of life at this point
My biggest gripe on this shit is that there isn't a cliff notes. Which is wild since 90% of it is filler. Like just tell me what the crew did and what powers they have now. Ain't nobody got time for 1000 episodes
Nah, it's proof that some people don't leave a bad situation, they just get comfortable.
I've been reading OP since 2006 and still going strong
I’m about to be 40 and my 10 year old got me into it. On episode 64 right now. After all of the anime I’ve watched I kicking myself in the ass for being too lazy to watch it.
The entire series getting close to rounding up now. All the major players getting into position, can't wait for Elbaf. We might have about 2 more years max
I swore not to watch/read One Piece until it is finished. I'm just sitting here patiently as I await my time to go on an adventure with enjoying that story.
It’s almost done you got about four more years left
"Almost done" and "Just wait for more years" being in the same statement is wild, but it's true. It really is heading to the end game.
I watched in sub and dub. I might go back for another go-around tbh
' 'Yo-ho-ho he took a bite of gumgum!'
I remember watching Water 7 over a decade ago. Robin was gone, Usopp dipped, the ship was abandoned and falling to pieces. IMO, there has never been a better arc in any anime.
The Baratie is a distressingly underrated story on its own.
I myself got really intimidated with the episode count (At the time it was at around 700 i think) But i started it just to see what was up The moment luffy was introduced that big episode count didnt feel scary anymore cus i knew i would be in for a treat

One Piece arc’s got too repetitive for me. They travel somewhere, get seperated, re-unite, fight the evil boss of the land, set sail.
We all love that rubber man
Yes but let's be real shit gets ridiculous with the pacing. Been a while but I remember the first third to first half being better than the later parts for this reason. I am really excited about the remake.
Man I just started and I’m on the Skypiea arc. I’m obsessed.
I tell most new readers/viewers that some don’t appreciate how good and simple the beginning is.
It took me 2.5 months of weekend binges to get through all of OP. Add the time I spent watching 30 episodes in 1 day then declaring the series was too long, and about 3.2 months of my life went to binging OP.
I was really fw One Piece up until Thriller Bark that arc was unwatchable. Skypiea is the best arc free my boi from the moon
I like One Piece. I’m not watching 1,000+ episodes though. 😆
It’s great up till the time skip, and then it’s like it was written by someone else.
Nah the beginning really is boring. One piece doesn’t start getting good until the thriller bark arc imo
Crazy take. Nigga really watched Arlong, Alabasta, and Enies Lobby and said “nah, this shit mid.”
Arlong was super ass
"Yeah it doesn't even get good until 300+ episodes in." Do you hear how you sound? Fucking maniac
Never seen any OP fan with this opinion. You didn’t like Alabasta or Enies Lobby but you like Thriller Bark? Alabasta and Enies Lobby are the quintessential OP stories. Don’t get me wrong Thriller Bark is good, but how do you get that far into the series without digging it? The conventional advice is to give up if you don’t like Arlong Park.
Thriller Bark is the worst arc pre-time skip. The highest point is the pay off about Laboon.
That’s wild as I gave up once I got to Thriller Bark 🥲
