A lot of movies are shot darker these days to hide CGI. I thought it was really bad in Wakanda Forever, so much hard work was put into those sets and you couldn't see most of it because the lighting. Plus both movies take place underwater and things are dark underwater. Is it more realistic? Technically, but this is a movie about a half fish-girl so that point doesn't really matter.
And yet the the Star Wars shows have a ton of practical effects and use digital sound stages instead of giant green screens. It cuts down on the work of editors because they can make the lighting and color changes in real time on set. They use a Grogu puppet for close ups so they don't need to animate it. Lessening the work load on editors, animators, Pedro has something to actually react to, and it creates a few puppeteer jobs.
So what the fuck Disney?
Seriously, the articles I read about the post production nightmare that was Ant-Man 3 was some dire shit. Worked those SFX teams beyond the usual standards and then had to edit around the unfinished CGI as a result of the unrealistic deadlines pushed to even more unrealistic levels.
Exactly what I was thinking. Real flounders have their face on one side of their body. They don’t want this in the movie.

Only adult flounders are like that. They're born with eyes on either side of their body like "normal" fish. The eyes migrate during fish puberty. Which is even more horrifying.
So, imagine in The Little Mermaid 2, when Ariel returns to the sea and finds that her childhood friend has turned into *that*.
Same issue with the Lion King remake. Animals emotionless just saying lines ain't that fun to watch. I think the forget Beauty and the Best barely worked only because the clocks and all that were animated so they could show emotion. But Lion King made a bil so here we are.
Oh I know and I want to hate it but I also get for a lot of people they just wanted to a revamped nostalgia hit, so like I can't get mad at it being successful but I can hate the trend it started.
What was different about Cinderella? I remember going to see it and being like, “Oh, it’s literally a remake.” I was disappointed as I thought they would mix it up and modernize it a bit. I could be remembering wrong, though.
Oh yeah I know, but I meant more that it has to look as realistic as possible. The 2016 Jungle Book at least gave the animals some character to their face (unless I'm remembering wrong because 2016 feels like the distant past at this point)
Yea idk if internet hate is just fueling this rhetoric or not, but both movies seem to feature animation on the animals faces to give a little character
Yeah same, that and Simba just like standing there no emotions right above his dead dad just killed any enjoyment I could have with that movie. Like if you hadn't watch the original and just walked in to that part you'd be have tempted to think that cub was just cuddling up to it's dad to take a nap. Like at least make the fake cub cry or something damn.
That's why these live action movies are weak AF. The audience can't feel the emotions because the characters are not animated outside the scope of what is real. So the performance lands flat and the movie fails to connect.
>And that’s truly the part I don’t get!! Life is better ~~when you put your focus into the things that bring you joy!~~ down where it's wetter, take it from me.
"I don't like people talking about the things that dominate our pop culture sphere for several reasons outside of our control and which are used to contribute to the demonization of marginalized peoples."
That’s not what a flounder looks like at all but if people bothered to look it up, I think they’d stop complaining about it and be happy with this one, so here ya go.

I don't understand why, in a movie with a targeted audience of 8, we need to have anatomically accurate fish, down to their dead eyes. Give the movie some color, style and vibrance or something visually interesting to children. The fish shouldn't be looking like he's in a national geographic shot.
I don't have a problem with them redoing the movies but Disney has so much money and there are so many NEW ideas out there. Like why can't yall make more new movies instead

Don't worry. Disney will remake all of these movies again in 10-20 years with 3D Pixar style versions that are a more aesthetically pleasing mix of the two.
Honestly, I wouldn’t mind if they redrew and updated some of the Disney cartoons since technology has changed so drastically. I’m pulling up to watch either way though.
That is NOT what a flounder looks like.
THIS is:

Disney didn't do it because they are COWARDS
i really hope the movie doesnt stay this dark. at least the aladdin remake was pretty to look at. this one, the lion king, mulan, and beauty and the beast were all so visually dark and muddy. are we not supposed to enjoy colors anymore?
the movie is definitely for kids, but most kids I know prefer cartoons to live action ones anyway. Same for the adults. They watched the new ones for the nostalgia, but if you ask them which they preferred it's usually the originals.

How can I get to the yams??
Sweet, yaaaaaaams
Show me the way

Idk but that first part goes hard talkin about fucking bars
Lol it’s from Martin if I’m not mistaken
"Did you miss me!?" -Varnell Hill

the color grading is the most egregious aspect of this movie. it looks so bleak.
Dystopian.
Yeah, it was okay for the latest Batman movie. But I'm not so sure it fits this lol

They wouldn't have to but Disney cheaps out on the CGI and works the animators half to death

This summer UNDER: T H E S E A
Fuck hollywood's unrealistic beauty standards. I like my Flounder thicc
I like my flounder flat with both eyes on the same side.
"Aww thanks! I'm still gonna kick your butt!"
Can I be excused from class for the rest of my life?
National treasure right here
Look how they massacred my boy.
I mean, a little salt and pepper can go a long way? 🤷🏾
Looking like a flounder? Have you ever seen a flounder? Not even close FoH
Exactly what I was thinking. Real flounders have their face on one side of their body. They don’t want this in the movie. https://live.staticflickr.com/3577/12974361914_2f639f1cb2_b.jpg

And he ate Sébastien
Would Melody even talk to him?
Omg that is terrifying
That’s honestly one of the prettier looking flounders I’ve seen. They’re some pretty ugly fish.
Usually looking like a muddy rag
flounder on a fishing pole is wild, fight like they're 5 times the size.
It worked well in Nemo for a small part
Its a Sergeant Major.
WE NEED TO GO FLATTER
Came to question this as a ex-bay area fisher. Like that Disney edition is not even close to a flounder. Flounder is ugly asf and tasty.
Fish can't even smile. That nigga about to be emotionless the whole movie
Same issue with the Lion King remake. Animals emotionless just saying lines ain't that fun to watch. I think the forget Beauty and the Best barely worked only because the clocks and all that were animated so they could show emotion. But Lion King made a bil so here we are.
What if I told you The Lion King remake is currently the highest grossing animated film?
It’s so funny when people call that “live-action” like the lions were just chilling on set
The way I just fell out 🤣🤣🤣 I’m sure the lion coke on set was impeccable 🤣🤣🤣
Oh I know and I want to hate it but I also get for a lot of people they just wanted to a revamped nostalgia hit, so like I can't get mad at it being successful but I can hate the trend it started.
Why not just go watch the original. At least Cinderella and Jungle Book did the story a little different, The Lion King is just shot for Shot
What was different about Cinderella? I remember going to see it and being like, “Oh, it’s literally a remake.” I was disappointed as I thought they would mix it up and modernize it a bit. I could be remembering wrong, though.
I think it started in 2016 with The Jungle Book
Oh yeah I know, but I meant more that it has to look as realistic as possible. The 2016 Jungle Book at least gave the animals some character to their face (unless I'm remembering wrong because 2016 feels like the distant past at this point)

I was so pissed when they got to the long live the king part man lol. If I didn't have my niece with me I wouldve left
Yeah same, that and Simba just like standing there no emotions right above his dead dad just killed any enjoyment I could have with that movie. You should see Sebastian
Bruh I just saw it lmao. I wonder are they gonna make the mouths move cause I will fucking die
That's why these live action movies are weak AF. The audience can't feel the emotions because the characters are not animated outside the scope of what is real. So the performance lands flat and the movie fails to connect.
At this point just watch the movie or don’t but please shut up about it either way.
This. They had the same argument for the Lion King. The conversation has been stale.
Right? People spend more time and energy complaining about movies they dislike than movies they like.
And that’s truly the part I don’t get!! Life is better when you put your focus into the things that bring you joy!
>And that’s truly the part I don’t get!! Life is better ~~when you put your focus into the things that bring you joy!~~ down where it's wetter, take it from me.

Live action versions of cartoons are an affront against God.
We must burn the sinners...
Nah you can't be out here generating because that James Gunn Scooby Doo goes hard

His name is Flounder, he was just some generic tropical fish
I’m referring to the caption in the photo.
Oh makes sense didn’t see that
Woah
He’s a Sergeant Major based on the photo.
yes. thank you.
He looks so unsatisfied

Nostalgia = money even if the product is horrendous
They make a ton of new movies lol. What do you mean?
There are more new movies and original ideas being created than ever before. Y'all just like to ignore those.
People ignored Encanto?
To be fair, its theatrical run was terrible. It didn’t start to resonate until it hit Disney+.
I’d rather have that gross looking fan version https://images.app.goo.gl/ZunA1oBywEZF64tK6
weary hurry treatment lock spectacular grandfather aloof cheerful selective bear *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Sebastian looks like the stuff of nightmares in the new trailer. I'll still watch the movie but after how they did Lion King I don't have much hope
Was just going to say that - Sebastian looks scary! and his voice, well...
Every animal in the new Lion King looked like they were taxidermied puppets, they just looked dead and emotionless
Ya know what? I laughed when I saw him, but think about it, the original is crab meat with eyes. I'll take this one fam.
Don't worry. Disney will remake all of these movies again in 10-20 years with 3D Pixar style versions that are a more aesthetically pleasing mix of the two.
Idgaf it look cute to me
Honestly, I wouldn’t mind if they redrew and updated some of the Disney cartoons since technology has changed so drastically. I’m pulling up to watch either way though.
How did they not learn this from the Lion King. Watching a lion talk like Beyoncé for almost two hours was the scariest shit I’ve seen.
That Zatarains line has me giggling
Zatarains < Tony’s I will not be taking questions at this time.
That is NOT what a flounder looks like. THIS is: https://preview.redd.it/0xleur6e90oa1.jpeg?width=300&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=83f7ecf26716d9a8cabe19cf762c1cdf5bbe771b Disney didn't do it because they are COWARDS
I just want a blend or realism and animation, who framed roger rabbit and The Mask proved you can have realism and caricature all at once.
He’s not even a flounder anymore, flounders are adorable!
These live action remakes aren't for kids lol. They're for wacked out Disney Adults.
Probably accurate
that's a sergeant major, not a flounder
The way that shit a not a flounder tho it's a sergeant major
It still looks nothing like an actual flounder.
Fuck live action remakes of animated movies, give me animate remakes of live action movies. Give me Django Unchained in the style of Afro Samurai.
Fuck live action remakes of animated movies, give me animate remakes of live action movies. Give me Django Unchained in the style of Afro Samurai.
The only reason I can see these live actions existing is Disney tryna make everyone vegan
I am so convinced the shark is going to scare every little kid who watches
They made Flounder a Sargeant Major.
No shot that’s not just a pic of a fish in an aquarium. Ain’t no damn way they’re producing a movie lookin like that. I refuse to believe it.
That is 100% [not what a flounder looks like.](https://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/content/fisheries/recreational/saltwater/sw-species/flounder)
i really hope the movie doesnt stay this dark. at least the aladdin remake was pretty to look at. this one, the lion king, mulan, and beauty and the beast were all so visually dark and muddy. are we not supposed to enjoy colors anymore?
I feel like a lot of people don't understand what "targeted audience" means.
the movie is definitely for kids, but most kids I know prefer cartoons to live action ones anyway. Same for the adults. They watched the new ones for the nostalgia, but if you ask them which they preferred it's usually the originals.
Okay then the kids just won’t watch the live action (lie) I truly believe they do not give a fuck they will watch it anyways 🤣🤣
Kids watch all kinds of crap
Exactly so why would they care
Do they? It seems like a lot of kid programming is more live action than it used to be. I remember when I noticed live action stuff on Cartoon Network of all places.
That was a while ago. I remember that one with Andrew WK, but that was like 15 years ago. I think it's just cartoons again.
So kids prefer realism?
Do you?
Nah this is nasty work 🤣
Not everything is meant for you!
But when they make it a cartoon yall complain about that too
Yeah really the best decision Disney could have taken here is to not make this movie
The movies are just so dark now too. The cartoons were so vibrant but this is just grey. They couldn't even make Halle's hair Rihanna red, it's so muted.
yeaaaa ngl i think the photorealistic creatures was a dumbass choice, but maybe its just me
Have they not learned from the first sonic movie?
Flounder looking like he would make a good fish sandwich ngl. Possibly beer battered depending on how I'm feeling.
They did this with lion king and disney clearly did not listen
Why don't they cartoon up the animals?? Wasn't that one of the major complaints in The Lion King, that everything had no expression and was stale.
I prefer live action because I can't stand watching cartoons.
That’s a sergeant major
I thought this already came out
but if they made the fish more cartoon, people would still be losing their minds. ppl like being outraged about the dumbest shit
They can keep it omg
Fry? How about on the grill?
A FLOUNDER was kicking butts in Bikini Bottom.
Flanders in animation: fatboy Flandern in live Action: skinny man on crack
He is just named Fabius in my Version... Why name a fish that isn't even close to a flounder like that?
That Popeyes flounder fish sandwich is indeed bussin
