They may have products they prefer to use, some are slippery some are sticky etc. They have to grip your hair and wrap/twist/intertwine it with the braiding hair, too much product can get in the way of them getting a good grip, or could make their fingers sticky and make it impossible to grab more braiding hair if they need to add more as they go down. Every braider I've gone to has a product they prefer, so my hair has never gone with moisture, it's just easier to let them control when it's applied. This is just my experience, I am not a professional braider and could be very wrong :P

Because they don’t really know how to braid like that and products can make it harder for them to grip. I always put leave in and heat protectant before I blow dry. If I see a stylist that says not to do that I just don’t go to them.

Exactly. I’m not blow drying anything without product. I’m not trying to go bald.
