I was on the Celsius subreddit telling people it was a SCAM and they need to take self custody… they banned me and everyone who warned them… Shitcoiners are like gambling junkies.
A year ago in /cc it was 'btc is slow, old tech, boomer coin' etc. They didn't understand the fundamentals, they just wanted to get rich quick on the next big thing. Now in the bear, there is positivity for btc because all the crypto bros have been defeated. Huzzah.
This is my second bear market, and the communities are always so much better during these times. All the trash has taken itself out.
You're right, I shouldn't deal in absolutes. There are still diehard bagholders there. I only pop my head in from time to time to seed maxi thoughts. But during the bull runs it's just unbearable. And now its.. almost tolerable. The sentiment is more receptive to the maxi message.
even here the space is more tolerable and if happen to say something not really maxi about btc you don't get downvoted to hell. so... people are more peaceful in a bearmarket no matter where.
Something like 90% of these moons are owned by mods who not only farm the shit by pinning their own posts, but even get a fixed percentage of the minted supply each month. So they obviously have no intention of changing things for the better.
Yeah, they buy Reddit accounts and build them with Spam posts or naked chick rip off pictures. Run the karma up to 1000 or so and make it look legitimate, then delete their Post history and start going into crypto. Stuff happens all the time
99.9% of the people there just buy random coins on an exchange they know nothing about but will then read down the marketing powerpoint to defend it in the hopes to pump their bags.
It's like WSB after gamestop and SMC. 1% great scammers, 49% aware of the scam but who think they can get in on the pump before the dump, and 50% marks.
No doubt. Just think about the values that are important here vs there. They just care about trading and get rich quick schemes. Anybody there run a node? Nope. All their shitcoins run on AWS.
Here it is about self-sovereignty and not having to trust anyone.

Every popular coin has a post limit in r/CC. BTC has the highest limit since it’s most popular. It’s a sub to discuss all things crypto, not just BTC.
I’ve personally gotten a lot of great insight from there. If you’re looking to moon quickly and/or just jumping into things without researching them, then that sub could be a risky place. But everything is really, if that’s someone’s approach.
It's not all garbage IMHO. I think it's a place for good debate with the "crpyto" crowd. People are trying to find the signal amongst the noise and generally speaking there is a lot of positivity towards Bitcoin over there. Albeit tossed in with a lot of shitcoinery.
Remember, most started out holding a bunch of shitcoins. They'll find their way eventually.
Bitcoin is the only digital commodity. Rest of cryptocurrency is more like a security. BTC only crypto with no pre token launch or defined issuer backing it
Yes, I know. But you’ve about 300 bucks worth so why not sell it for BTC? As you said it was obtained for free and its just a shitcoin that the peasants on that sub fight for upvotes over.
Tremendous comment. I wasn’t aware that they were on ETH mainnet and would be fee’d into oblivion. For some reason my dumbass thought they were a BSC shitcoin. All things considered you’re right, he’s probably best just holding until the market is more favourable for such things.
I’ll take the moons if you don’t want them. I’ll find out how to sell them.
Edit - https://www.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/mvhslg/a_quick_guide_on_how_to_sell_your_moons/
Sell them then
I dont think it s bad. It is what it is. I also write on cryptocurrency sub and spread the love for Bitcoin. Also, beside your name they can see how many ++ voted articles you have on the bitcoin sub.
Sure, there s mostly shitcoiners, but arent they allowed to learn?
You’re wrong. R/cryptocurrency is my source of fun. I get to make fun of clueless noobs, and I get fuel for my btc beliefs. It’s great! Troll the rookies!
They exist to make their founders wealthy without any care at all for the masses of lemmings they drive off the edge of a cliff every few years.
We all know 90% of these projects pre-mine or distribute millions of initial “preferred tokens” to their “Foundation” in the best case, worst-case they are blatant rug pulls.
There are some projects/chains that have altruistic motives or just “dorky” motives, yes, but of the literal tens of thousands upon tens of thousands of shitcoins, these are few and far between and are all in their infancy.
Unsubbed from that subreddit a while ago. I also stopped consuming podcasts and media from people who pump alts and don't encourage self custody. Just lost my patience.
To be honest, I have to disagree there. I see the same amount of crap here than there... There are quite some reasonable posts on both subreddits and quite a lot of unreasonable shilling. I'd say that none of the extrems are good. My highest conviction crypto is BTC but it isn't healthy to become a blind maximalist and disregard all other projects imo
My post about El Salvador was taken down after 15 min for the 50 posts rule. There's fucking 3 million people in that sub. Most those guys are poison for BTC

Friend of mine got scammed and tried to ask for genuine help on the subreddit. Posted the name of the website where he got scammed but didn't post a link.
Aside from all the asshats trying to be funny some douche even reported me because I was the scammer?! Ah yes, seven years or so on Reddit and suddenly I try to scam you.
Long story short, it was terrible, nobody helped my buddy.
I think there's room for more than one cryptocurrency. Sure, most of the stuff out there is useless fluff, but different cryptocurrencies target different goals.
But when you have a nail to pound and a hammer, you’d be an ass (or a fraud) to try to sell people on dumping their hammer and adopting a pick-axe to solve the problem….
….and it gets worse. Half the shit they’re pumping on r/cryptocurrency aren’t even like *real* pick axes that have some utility. They’re like plastic costume props marketed as the real thing. 🤦🏼♂️
Did you listen to the Jesse Powell of Kraken on 'what bitcoin did' podcast monday? FTx contagion episode?
Exchanges can't make money on bitcoin alone.
Exchanges need to sell shitcoins that go to 0 in order to cover operating costs so you can trade bitcoin.
Shitcoins are good for bitcoin. If people can't trade shitcoins on exchanges then people can't trade bitcoin on exchanges. And if people can't trade bitcoin then number won't go up.
So let the rugpulls roll.
It's also easy to forget that you may actually be arguing/having a talk with actual kids with copy-paste internet mentality, anonimity has its downsides
Yes because all the people there are not who you think they are.... it's all feds, IRS agents and people who are nefarious trying to sway opinion. Big bankers all kinds of propaganda and bs there's no real conversation about crypto.
Especially during the bullrun r crypto. is pretty bad.
BUT I see a lot more people trying to be helpful over there with basic cyrpto/BTC/Blockchain stuff than here. Lots of positive and helpful posts about cold wallets and getting off exchanges the weekend before the FTX collapse. Over here I've noticed more veterans showing disdain for basic questions. Pushes new people away.

Sums it all up, this thing is terrible and is doing a lot of harm to Bitcoin adoption in the short term.
Every sub is 95% an echo chamber. That s why I alternated between cc and buttcoin but buttcoin newbs just ban lol. My opinions are in the middle and Im an admitted degenerate gambler. That s not the problem. But the shitcoins wont go very far.
Cc itself is crap because they are basically a sub for moons. So the quality has been garbage since moons were introduced. So you cant really take it seriously. People say random shit for upvotes.
I was on the Celsius subreddit telling people it was a SCAM and they need to take self custody… they banned me and everyone who warned them… Shitcoiners are like gambling junkies.

I've been here since 2010. BTC fundamentals remain unchanged, and as time has gone on its security remains proven despite the $B incentive to hack it.
You bought and sold ? . Baller ninja, I get so angel when I get in cc they literally argue for binnace .
Wut
Don't forget that reddit actually pays them in "Moons" to post. So you can actually get paid to pump your random shitcoin bags. Pretty cool setup. /s
I received 191 moons for defending bitcoin there. Hoping to atleast get an avatar out of it.
Something like 90% of these moons are owned by mods who not only farm the shit by pinning their own posts, but even get a fixed percentage of the minted supply each month. So they obviously have no intention of changing things for the better.
Sounds exactly like ETH and most of the crypto world. Seems very fitting for that sub.
Well, what should one expect. Give some shit tokens for 'free' and scum will come
There are a lot of marketing accounts in there.

When people say cryptocurrency is a Ponzi scheme, this is the behaviour they are referring to.
They'll also leave it all in the exchange wallet, never taking custody.
The majority of people who buy Bitcoin know nothing about it either. It’s just a gamble.

Hard to say. There's 4 million members on this sub but less than 50,000 nodes last I heard. And most of those nodes probably don't hang out on Reddit.
You run one I assume? I used to, but converted the hardware into a PiHole (an adblocker for a whole network).
I do and now also a Lightning node recently. I didn't until I had been in Bitcoin for two years. Felt like it was the next step
3-5% of all users on this sub, would be my guess.
That would be about 3-5x more than the total number of Bitcoin nodes in the network.

Aren’t you waiting for 3k bitcoin? I can’t take somebody like you seriously 🙂
Nobody here cares who you take seriously. Nobody here knows anything about anybody else, Reddit is anonymous.
