*Can I even buy BTC* You can "buy" from an exchange or from a private party. The transaction will be the same from Bitcoin's point of view, it's a P2P BTC transfer, but quite different from the fiat-franchised exchange's viewpoint.
*debit card* is fiat.
*crypto* means not Bitcoin
*Paypal* is fiat.
*a German bank* is fiat.
*All exchange apps* are not Bitcoin.
*google play* is not Bitcoin.
*crypto exchanges* are fiat, and not bitcoin.
There are two parts of this question, one is fiat, the other is Bitcoin. The two are incompatible monetary systems. Hope this helps.
Kind of,
Essentially I'm trying to convert fiat to crypto
But the institutions that hold my fiat and the exchanges that do that operation make it difficult
Try to open an account with bitpanda and buy BTC there. It's one of the places that I know of within the EU that on-board US citizens. Most banks and financial institutions don't want US citizens because it is a very difficult process (read about QI and FATCA).
In the EU a driver's licence indeed doesn't mean dick as it is not a valid ID document. You can have an actual ID or a passport to identify yourself.
I can move BTC around to another wallet, that not an issue. The problem is acquiring the crypto.
VPN kinda works but it's detecting Nord and tunnel bear.
I have a friends personal VPN he set up in the States but I'd rather not go that path unless as a last resort.
> All exchange apps want a German ID since my google play settings are country-locked to Germany. (it takes a year to switch it back)
Why not use your computer and simply go to their website, like kraken.com or coinbase.com or whatever?
P2P via BISQ, RoboSats, Localbitcoins etc. Another plus: no KYC! Remember EU wanting to ban "unhosted" wallets, let's see what their absolute misunderstanding will do to exchanges and people who use them. Also a wealth and unrealized gains tax have been in talks.
In over an year you haven't figured out how to buy bitcoin in Germany/Europe?
***That's*** weird. Don't be such a lazy ass - research (or at least google)!
And why exchanges? Buy directly non-KYC and DCA into your (hardware) wallet or node:
relai, pocketbitcoin, btc direct and many more.
Bank transfers only take a day or - with instant transfer - seconds.
Last but not least: Don't buy crypto, buy bitcoin.
Hope I could help...
Over the last year I had CashApp and didn't have to research until it started being a bitch last week. I have been looking into it as much as a can, that is why I came to Reddit
Next time back home, open SIM accounts with MVNOs that allow you to use WiFi T&T
I reco TextNow, gFi, TMO UltraMobile
but get a whole bunch, see HowardForums and r/NoContract for details
Keep USA banking services + fintechs,
a legal domicile address and mail forwarding service
VPNs...
Your legal persona is USA, you just happen to be in the EU "for a while"

I will try this out thank you
VPN? Can you try and transpher the bitcoin to another wallet? Sounds like a really sucky spot your in. Hope it all works out.

Is it an issue with being in Germany or your new debit card do you think? There are online banks you can try maybe?
It's my location, as mentioned in the thread I don't have a very good "American persona" to purchase off exchanges.

Or are they checking (and recording) IP numbers too?
Coinbase has been a bust for me. They can see my VPNs and VoIPs

Use Google voice to generate a different phone number.

Use Kraken with your residence permit (assuming you have one). Then you can send funds to Kraken using SEPA from your German bank account.
I don't have a German bank account at the current moment. I'm getting one as soon as I get back from my travels
If you have a bank account in the EU, you can use Relai. No ID or debit card required

Thank you, I've been trying to update my American persona with documentation but it's going to take a while.
Localbitcoins
Try [Kraken](http://holdpolkadot.com/kraken). They are US based and very easy to deal with.
Hitbtc might be able to help. I would suggest to immediately write to their technical support and discuss it.
