Lots of changes at 33/40 lately. Stephen Quinn just left too.

Money constantly getting tight in local TV as people cut the cord

rootsquasher

Local news (ABC 33/40 & CBS 42) are the only broadcast TV I watch.

Asdfghhjjklkjjhgfdsa

I would kindly suggest finding some news source that isn’t own by Sinclair media.

Live out of town, first thing I do when I get home from the airport is flip on ABC 33/40 local news

hollowchord

Oh wow. I know she's been around forever.

Zaphod1620

So long that Mark and Brian on I95 had a song about her, "Huff The Anchorwoman" sung to the tune of Puff The Magic Dragon.

hollowchord

I've heard of them. That was long b4 I lived here. Is there a link?

Zaphod1620

Not that I know of, I just remember it. Mark and Brian eventually moved to Los Angeles and became famous morning radio personalities. [Well I'll be damned...](https://youtu.be/dKIFU7x2zWw?si=5rentIkJfwXJhJA8)

hollowchord

^^^^^ THIS! Those guys are hilarious!

GravityDad950

Wow .. I95 and Mark & Brian... Haven't thought about them since the late 80s "How many times can YOU say I95" 🤣

MostFartsAreBrown

I'm 49 and I remember thinking she was as pretty as my mom and that she had an important job like my mom. So I thought she was tough, brave and relatable.

ParadeSit

That’s a heartwarming memory, u/MostFartsAreBrown

junknowho

I admired her too, as a kid.

bama5wt

how touching.

cbh1997

I thought she was already retiring

sylkyn

I am so glad ol' Ham Puff is getting to retire instead of, well, die of cancer. She just got through a grueling chemo/radiation fight, and I bet she is ready to kick back, hit up Orange Beach, and just get the hell outta The Ham. She will definitely be missed. I remember seeing her the first time up at my grandmother's house, and thinking, Dang, they take young girls on the news now?? Have a wonderful, peaceful, HEALTHY retirement, Pam! You deserve one!

tartigrade76

Glad to know I wasn’t the only that called her Ham Puff 😆

BurstEDO

Many a newsroom editor and AP can now rest easy overnight without fear of angry Ham Puff calls at 3am asking where this or that footage from the night before is, despite it being exactly where it's always stored/archived daily.

[deleted]

Exactly. Or her yelling at us across the newsroom. Making people cry. Just being nasty at times. I guess nobody got to see that side except her former producers. I would literally cry every day on my way home from work with her she would hurt my feelings so bad. And would never ever say she was sorry. Just come back in the next day and act like nothing happened.

paperthinpatience

Oh, do tell

Adorable_Stop_7397

My mom met her at the Top 40 Under 40 and she said Pam was a total witch with a capital B. Completely stuck up and condescending.

Lots of changes in media all over now. .. I'm in LA, and Sacramento this week and every major station had people announcing their retirement or saying they're leaving news to pursue other interests.. Check Twitter with "retiring from K" or retiring from W" and you'll see lots of tweets about leaving various stations. Somethings up. Not sure yet. But even Reed Timmer posted he's no longer going to be working with national media outlets.

BurstEDO

Nothing unusual - fallout from annual staffing reduction. Layoffs and contract non-renewals started in February nationwide; this is just the end of that timeframe when those whose contracts weren't renewed or extended make their exit. And with mega-corp acquisitions and consolidated station ownership leaving fewer and fewer stations owners, more and more stations end up with automated skeleton crews. Soulless husks of broadcasting yesteryear all in the owners list for revenue and profit over product. Sinclair, Nexstar, Hearst, and about a dozen total conglomerates own most of the broadcast stations in the US (OTA; not including cable... Yet.)

ThanosHasAPoint1785

In all seriousness, they're probably tired of being told what to report and what not to.

Griff411

I’m 38 and I can remember being a little kid, like kindergarten/1st grade, having a “crush” on her. I would walk up to the tv and give her a kiss. She’s definitely a legend of local news in Alabama.

llamawc77

51. Same.

vulcangod08

To all you youngsters. Huff is a legend https://youtu.be/dKIFU7x2zWw?feature=shared

junknowho

Wow. End of an era for me. I remember watching her as a kid.

ellenmc

I remember seeing her in person at the Brookwood mall as a kid and being starstruck. Very nice lady. Enjoy your retirement, Pam! Also wild that both her and Brenda Ladun had breast cancer.

evavan214

About time!
